I feel that the Ultima series is better than the Final Fantasy series.
First of all Final Fantasy is purely a video game, so you can't have the
depth that a PC game can.
Second, even though the FF series has a very good plot line and story
development, I feel the battle sequences detract from the game. I mean,
your just walking along, minding your own buisiness when all of a sudden
Something comes along to fight you. I think this slows the game down.
I had the same problem with the early Ultima games as well.
They both have their positive and negative aspects, but for my money,
Ultima is the better choice.

I agree whole heartedly that the ultima series is better. The only problem
with pc games is that you have to use a mouse plus key board or
one or the other which with some games can be diff.

???????? What does the PC format have to do with "depth," and how do you
define "depth" anyway? Just for storyline and philosophizing and stuff,
Ultima, with it's lonely, grim hero and hastily contrived NPC's ("My
father has been kid-napped! Will you save him?"), is the more ambitious.
But when it comes to creating a rich environment through graphics, music,
and characters, FF-type games come out the winner, even with a
goodly-sized helping of cheese. Also, just for my personal choice, I like
the strategy required for the RPG-style battle scenes in FF much more than
Ultima's hack'n'slash combat.

FF3 rules!!!!! Ultima games on the PC take too long to load and are kind
of boring. On the SNES, The False Prophet is very good, but has several
annoying glitches. The Black Gate sucks, and I haven't played Runes of
Virtue 2.

Yeah, so we are now judging quality of the game, by how quick it loads,
are we ? As for "kinda boring" line, I have a strong suspicion that it
has something to do with the fact that you probably didn't finish a
single Ultima on PC.
My advice: get your hands on Ultima 5 for PC, it is old, it has
crap graphics, but it sure teaches FF3 few things about what makes
CRPG, a good CRPG. (And try Wizardry 7 while you are at that...)
