Dreamcast will destroy the N64

Sega will redefine and set the standard for the console gaming industry with
their new machine. Why? The answer is quite simple: A built in modem.
Without it, the Dreamcast is just another game console more powerful than
anything else before it. Games would be the same with more polygons, more
colors, and more game logic. The modem opens up the gamer to a whole new
world of realizm. Think about it; I'll be playing Virtua Fighter III with
the best players from around the world while you're playing Mario Kart of
Ditty Kong against the same two or three best friends. Finally, you'll be
able to play a shootem' up with a squadron of other fighters, or play in the
same RPG at the same time. The servers will keep records of you're
wins/losses and rank you accordingly. You'll be able to join leagues where
you can compete with people at your skill level.

The DreamCast is nothing more than a stripped PC (including Windows CE and
DirectX). This will enable Microsoft to grab a larger share of the world
market.
But who wants a console which will have to boot???

I'd rather stick with my P200, 64 MB RAM and 4MB 3D card :-)

Don't forget that the nintendo might have a modem with the 64DD. And the
hardware is almost the same. (DreamCast will have a newer videocard, but
why such a fast card for 384x288??)

Maybe DreamCast will have some impact on the console market, but it will
never be the same as the launch of the Nintendo 64, which caused a run on
the system.

The 64DD is dead, a non factor. CE is NOT the primary OS of the DC.
It's a layer that can be used for ports(as I understand it), and
finally don't all game systems "boot" technically? But the DC boot
time will be no longer than current systems.

Well, the idea is that a game cosole with all the features mentioned will

has the power of your computer, but cost so far less, why won't it have a
chance?

No one knows what the mass market will do with a modem. Especially when
they get thier first phone bill. :-) Besides, multiplayer games on a
server requires an addition expense of at least a Sega dedicated online
service and at most a ISP of some sort. Maybe a modem is a wasted expense
as it turns out nobody uses it in the long haul. Money better saved by
omitting it.

Price is always a consideration for console gamers. Or else they would've
gone PC long ago. Nope, if the DC depended only on PC gamers to buy it,
its already a niche machine. It has to sell to the mass market. But in
the end, its impressive for the price, but for the very ultimate in gaming
3D graphics, its still the PC.

It remains to be seen that the DC will make such a big splash in the
online multiplayer gaming market. There is addition cost to online gaming
and I'm not sure the mass market will want to spend that kind of money.
But rest easy, knowing that the DC has four controller ports if online
gaming doesn't pan out.
