Hey... I was up really late last night watching MTV with a friend of
mine, and I saw the commercial for Chrono Trigger. Now, here's my
question.... was it just REALLY late at night and I was hearing things,
or was the voiceover on the commerical fully in Japanese? I was just
wondering, because I thought it was kind of strange...

Why is it strange? Because it was entirely in Japanese? That's pretty
fucking stupid to say that. The game was created in Japan by some of
the best Japanese game makers in the world and for people to say that a
commercial on american airwaves done entirely in Japanese with english
subtitles is strange, you guys are just as stupid as those assholes at
DHGF.

You are correct. I was not paying any attention to the ad (well, that
is, i was giving about as much attention to mtv as it deserves) until the
japanese voice over says "Final Fantasy". :)

Nice and thoughtful reply, Dick!! Was just wondering about the
offensiveness of the question. Geezz, maybe it'd do your brain good if you
for once stopped sucking on your own dick. Get a life, you dickhead!!

I don't think they were being offensive in the "strange" statement.
They aren't stating that the Japanese are strange. It is strange that a
commerial is in one language if most of the target market understands
another language. Unless, of course, that was the effect that Nintendo
wanted or possibly the Japanese audio was broadcast on another
wavelength, and the English audio a different one. It's like watching
The Fresh Prince, and finding out that the mother is played by another
woman... you just gotta think, "Hmmm... that's strange."
I really don't think the name calling was called upon, nor is it
related to the DHGF issue.

There's Chrono Trigger commercial??? From Japan??? Cool! Japanese game
commercials are neato. I wish I could've seen it.

Ah... no. Sure, it was made in Japan. Sure, it was made by Japanese
programmers. But as you said, it's on American airwaves! How many of us
know Japanese?

Sheesh. You sure know how to get worked up over a commercial... I wonder
what would happen if I said Chrono Trigger is "really strange?" :)

Nopw, I saw 'em too. They said stuff like "Travel through time."
"Lose your luggage." and "Word."

I discovered this thread while doing research on Chrono Trigger for a historical retrospective on the game to be posted on YouTube. I'm so glad you wrote this here! Little did you know at the time it would be a historical document. Lol.
