WELCOME!
________________________________________________________________________
Welcome to our third issue, and our first distributed on the new Game
Genie mailing list! Thanx go to Chris Osborn, the administrator of the
Game Genie code server, for setting it up for us! E-mail "game-genie-l-
request&nvc.cc.ca.us" with the word "subscribe" as your subject line to
subscribe if you haven't yet.

Another major thank you goes out to our new staff members! It's your
hard work that's helped make this our best issue yet! You can read about
them below.

And finally, thanx are also due to all of our contributors this month!
To all who sent in codes, tips, or even the occasional note saying they
like the magazine (my favorites), thank you! Whoever sent the idea for
the system titles, I lost your E-mail. Could you contact me again so I
can give you credit next month?

OK, we've gotten through the tuna casserole and brussels sprouts, now
for dessert! This issue Jen's found some great gossip on future
releases. Also, Jon trashes Mega Man X and we'll manhandle Super
Metroid! Dig in, everyone!

MEET THE STAFF
________________________________________________________________________
Perhaps our biggest news this month is that we've added several new
staff members! Why don't you introduce yourselves?

First up is our industry informant (spy if you prefer), Jen Kuiper.
"By day I'm a mild mannered middle manager of the Technical Services
operations at a large PC/MAC mail order company in Miami. By evening I'm
a wild 'baddie bashing' video game wench. My love of video games far
outweighs my ability to play them so collecting codes, cheats and
strategies is a hobby. I own SNES, NES, Genesis, Sega CD, Game Gear,
Jaguar and soon 3DO systems. In my spare time (NOT!) I sysop in the
Video Game Publisher's Forum(s) on CompuServe, and play in the Florida
salt water and sun."

Next is our sports game specialist. Step forward and take a bow!
"My name is Fernando Garelli, but I prefer to be addressed as Fer. I
live in Buenos Aires, you know, this huge city in Argentina, South
America. I'm 13 years old. This is my first year with the Hartley-
Shannon High School where I hope to learn about computer science. I have
a SNES, a Gameboy and a PC 486 multimedia. Well, let's get to the thing,
I'm a big-time fan of sports games and that makes me sort of a different
kind 'a guy here on this mag where most fellows prefer RPGs or action
games. As well as virtually playing simulation sports games on SNES, I
also actually play soccer and basketball on a regular basis. I suppose
that gives me an edge on 'em."

Dave Stitt is our resident Game Genie expert. Wave to the crowd!
"I live in Clearwater, FL which is near Tampa. I'm going to be a
Freshman in high school next year and I'm 14. I'm addicted to
RPG/Adventure games and like some fighting games like Mortal Kombat and
stuff like that. I used to play baseball, basketball and soccer until I
broke my nose a while ago in soccer. I like math and science in school
and of course computers."

Here's our most experienced reviewer and game connoisseur...
"Hi. My name is Logan and I grew up in New Zealand before moving to
sunny Southern California. I own a SNES, Sega CDX, Game Gear, and Game
Boy Adaptor. I also have a Mac. I enjoy action/adventure games, flight
simulators, and Sci Fi themed games (I am a BIG Star Wars fan!).
I like to write (I hope to be writing stories for games soon), draw (I
am working on a comic book at the moment), and enjoy listening to
music."

...and our RPG-whupper and NES aficionado.
"My name is John Gaughan and I live in Lakewood, Ohio. It is adjacent to
Cleveland, on the west. It is also right on Lake Erie. I am a sophomore
(next school year, but I always think of myself the next grade up as
soon as the bell rings after 9th period on the last day of school) at
Lakewood High. Just call me John. I like playing RPG/Adventure games on
nintendo, SNES, genesis, and computer.

Jonathan Bigos is our Nintendo expert. Say hi!
"I live in Titusville, Florida. I am your average teenager, a fourteen
year old freshman who likes to play video games while listing to heavy
metal music. I have a Nintendo, SNES, and a Gameboy. I use my Macintosh
Quadra 660AV to use America OnLine. Right now I like to Skin Dive,
waterski, and write. I have a VERY big imagination. I got my OnLine
name, Won Ton, from my cousin. He's Spanish and my name in spanish is
Won, but I don't know where the Ton came from."

And his counterpart, our Sega expert...
"My name is Matt Lee and I am from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, which is
about half an hour to an hour north of Detroit. I am going into 8th
grade, and I am 13 years old. My favorite types of games are
RPG/Adventure and fighting. I own a Genesis, Super Nintendo, and a
Macintosh IIci. The next system I plan to buy is the Sega Saturn. I
also have the Power Base Converter for Genesis, which lets me play the
rare Sega Master System games. Some of my hobbies are programming,
rollerblading, and playing D & D. I hope to help make Encrypt! the best
online gaming mag around!!!"

I have no doubt that all of the new staff WILL make Encrypt! the best
online gaming mag around! Thanx! Hey, readers, why haven't we heard from
YOU about joining the staff yet? If you are an excellent writer and
dedicated gamer write me at "TheS...@aol.com"!

BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT
________________________________________________________________________

BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT (formerly Silicon & Synapse) the developers of
the hot ROCK'N ROLL RACING and innovative THE LOST VIKINGS have some new
tricks up their programming sleeves.

Sunsoft is about to release the DEATH OF SUPERMAN by Blizzard
Entertainment. Look for this to be better than the usual SunSoft
software fare. Blizzard contacts claim Sunsoft pressured them for speed
on this title, but they fought back and won on quality counts!

A Blizzard developed product has won best of CES every time.. and they
are hoping DEATH OF SUPERMAN will be no different at this summer's show.

The next item is a new title for the SNES called BLACKTHORNE. It was
just submitted to Nintendo of America two weeks ago for evaluation, but
has been seen at past CES shows.

You are Kyle Blackthorne on a quest to kick some monster butt with a
LARGE shotgun! Your father, the King of Tuul, was killed when you were a
small boy. As his castle was stormed by the enemy, you were teleported
away to earth. Now, 20 years later you return to Tuul to destroy Sarlac,
the evil overlord who has enslaved your people.

Blackthorne's play is a little reminiscent of FLASHBACK, but much more
entertaining. There is a LOT of violence, which Nintendo will just LOVE.
Blizzard contacts call it a "Shoot Fest with a Quest." You'll be able to
talk to the various NPC's (Non-player Characters) in this fantasy game
with sci-fi weapons, and then blow them away. Most games of this type
allow you only to speak to the NPC characters.

I can see the little kiddies now... "Thanks for your help, Mr. NPC,"
(Uzi fire) "but I've had a bad day."

Let's hope Nintendo of America approves the title anyway, it sounds like
another excellent title from the folks at Blizzard.

SEGA PREVIEWS 32X AND SONIC & KNUCKLES!
________________________________________________________________________

>From Ross Erickson, Game Bytes Magazine:
Sega was pre-announcing the next Sonic at the HQ day we had last week.
It's called Sonic and Knuckles, not the expected Sonic 4. Until CES,
Sega is being purposely vague about it, but report "brand new software
technology" and the new game is "backwards compatible with previous
Sonics." My guess is that this new game will plug into the Genesis and
then another Sonic cartridge will plug into the top of it so you can
play previous levels with new characters.

Haven Dubrul and Jess Taylor of Sega were the presenters of the 32X and
they showed a prototype machine at the Gamers Press day in Redwood City.
It's a big sucker right now as it has a bunch of debug hardware tapped
into it too. They showed some clips of some of the games on video, plus
they were running a live intro of the 32X version of Ecco 2. It looked
almost photorealistic! Very nice stuff.

Sega definitively stated that they will have at least 6 homegrown titles
available for the 32X at launch:

Doom
Star Wars Arcade
Virtua Racing Deluxe
Super Motocross
Super Afterburner
Fahrenheit CD 32X

In all cases, Sega states that these games will be full-featured 32,000
color games with high-res audio support.

Star Wars Arcade looks to be like X-Wing from the PC on the console
(finally) with more emphasis on the action in the cockpit and less on
the cinematic and cut scenes. The ships and polygons, of course, will
be fully texture-mapped. I expect this one will resemble Tie Fighter
even more than Star Wars Arcade. Four levels to take on the Death Star.

Virtua Racing Deluxe - A texture-mapped 12,000 polygon/second gem. We
didn't see this one, but the powers that be described this as even
better and smoother than the arcade version. Better color support and
faster texture-mapping. Twice the speed of the SVP Genesis version now
shipping. Four different cars too.

Super Motocross - 15 different courses with tons of obstacles and three
different classes of motorcycles. Two different perspectives - 'drivers
view' and 'slightly above'. This might also be described as Virtua
Motocross!

Super Afterburner - Just like the original arcade only improved and
faster! This shooter will put many texture-mapped ground effects into
the picture as you use sidewinders and guns to take out the enemy.

Fahrenheit CD 32X - With 32,000 color support, this Tru-Video production
should look very life-like. It's been thought of as 'Backdraft
Interactive'. You play a fireman and have to rescue civilians from
various types of fires - from apartment complexes to chemical plants.

Other games coming from Sega this fall/winter for 32X:

Tempo - 24MB platform game starring Tempo, the hip-hop grasshopper.
Music is the key technical feature in this game.

Golf Magazine Presents 36 Great Holes Starring Freddy Couples (and Payne
Stewart) - Sega says with 32,000 colors at their disposal, they plan to
make this game look significantly better than Links 386 Pro, and you'll
be able to 'walk down the fairway' to your ball too.

Super Space Harrier - An upgrade of the arcade original

Stellar Assault - 3D flying game in outer space

Cyber Brawl - the debut 32X fighter

Midnight Raiders CD 32X - Not just aerial combat, but adventure and
fighting and flying rolled into one.

College Basketball
Metal Head
Surgical Strike
Wirehead CD - also coming

ALAMEDA, Calif., June 7, 1994-Interactive software developer Spectrum
HoloByte, Inc. has signed each of the eight leading actors from
Paramount's Emmy Award-winning Star Trek: The Next Generation television
series to contribute their voices on Spectrum's CD-ROM interactive
adventure based on the series, it was announced today by Gilman Louie,

Spiner (Lt. Commander Data), and Majel Barrett (voice of the computer).

"The addition of Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis and the
rest of the talented 'Star Trek' cast will blast this CD-ROM to an
entirely unexplored world," explains Louie. "Spectrum's agreements with
these actors are prime examples of Hollywood and Silicon Valley
'converging' for the purpose of transforming the entertainment
experience into an interactive one."

This CD-ROM entitled STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION "A FINAL UNITY,"
features an originally written and produced story that takes its players
to interstellar worlds in an interactive space adventure. It is
scheduled for release in the current fiscal year. The CD-ROM delivers
brilliant 3-D graphics rendered in high-resolution with music, sound and
characterization faithful to the television series.

JAGUAR INFO
________________________________________________________________________
The following quotes are from the final RTC on GEnie with Bob Brodie,
Director of Communications for Atari Corp.

"...well I'm really not at liberty to say too much about CES. I can tell
you that we have about 35 stations planned for the show, and each one
will have a different title on display. We're also creating some
dazzling CD ROM demos. I can also tell you that there are about 10
titles that are pretty close (30-60 days) to being ready. As in, they
are on EPROMS for preview to mags now."

"...The next title for the Jaguar will probably be Wolfenstein 3D, and
Brutal Sports Football is close behind it."

"...Williams' license with Acclaim runs thru the end of this year. So
unless Acclaim wants to do MK on the Jag, it won't happen until '95."

"...I haven't seen Star Raiders yet. It's still in the "code" part of
the project. I would expect something along the lines of what we did
with Tempest 2000...take a very popular game, and update it to reflect
the capabilities of the Jaguar. Re AvP, we've flown in two programmers
from Rebellion to help finish it off here in Sunnyvale, and have also
pulled some of our other staff off other projects to assist in
finalizing AvP. It should be done by the end of the month."

"...the CD ROM development systems are now shipping... The price is
approx $199."

"We're building in to the Jag CD a cool light show product that works
with regular audio CDs, and we're talking about including a CD of
Tempest music with it. But that's not firmed up."

REVIEWS - SUPER METROID, ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE, MORTAL KOMBAT CD
________________________________________________________________________
Welcome to our very first review section! This issue Logan covers some
of the new and some of the not-so-hot titles. Ratings are on a scale of
1-100.

SUPER METROID (SNES)
Hailed as the ultimate game for your Super Nintendo, Super Metroid
delivers sharp game play amid excellent graphics and control. A
multitude of enemies and weapons are scattered throughout six very BIG
levels. Strategy is the key, and some players may get a little
frustrated by doors that won't open until you have certain weapons or
have killed certain enemies.
Overall, a great game with hours of play value. Multiple endings add to
replay value. *90*

ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE/SPUNKY'S DANGEROUS DAY (SNES)
Original puzzle-play in the same vein as Lemmings. Rocko must help guide
his favorite pooch through four levels of hazards and enemies. You have
to be thinking one step ahead! This can make it a little hard and
frustrating for some players. The controls can get a bit hectic too!
The graphics are incredible and the sound effects are top notch. Well
worth a look. *75*

MORTAL COMBAT (Sega CD)
Unfortunately, there is really nothing new here. It's the cartridge
version on a CD! That's about it! No major improvements that I could
see. Save your money for MK2. *35*

PROGRAMMERS' FORUM - SAVING CODE EFFECTS
________________________________________________________________________
When using the Game Genie, Pro Action Replay, or another patch device on
a game with battery backup or a password function, remember that while
the code may affect your jump height or number of items, it usually does
not affect the continue option. Progress made using the Game Genie/PAR
such as reaching another stage can of course be saved as usual and
continued later.

To create a code similar to the special Mega Man X password (see below)
you can use a variety of Game Genie codes to get access to places you
could never go ordinarily without beating the bosses. The high jump code
is extremely helpful in reaching items you ordinarily can't get without
the boomerang, which you would have to beat a boss to acquire. Infinite
energy allows you to stand in Flame Mammoth's lava long enough to
collect the heart tank without beating Chill Penguin first to freeze the
level. Similar tricks will work on almost any other password or saved
game.

But it's also often possible to save effects that are directly caused by
the Game Genie/PAR. In the Metroid codes below, for example, the first
will alter your reserves of Super Missiles. Once you have a high number
of missiles the game can be saved and when you continue you will have a
higher number of missiles than is ordinarily possible whether you are
using the Game Genie or not. Again, this will work on most other games
with a continue option. Is a friend having trouble on Zelda III? Borrow
his copy and use the PAR to raise his maximum number of bombs or give
him extra heart containers. Then charge him.

Keep in mind that you can't save the effects of every code. The code has
to affect a number that the game keeps track of when it saves. If you
had a code to make Samus jump 10 times as high you wouldn't be able to
save its effects because the game doesn't bother recording how high you
can jump - the programmers expected this value to always stay the same.
But the game DOES keep track of your number of super missiles, which is
why you can save the effects of that code.

SUPER METROID
________________________________________________________________________
Game Genie codes:
8D88-C5A7: Shoot regular missiles and your super missiles will go down,
shoot with 0 super missiles left and you will gain hundreds of super
missiles! Best of all, the effects of this can be saved on any file and
used later without the Game Genie! Don't go back to the ship or the
super missiles will return to their max.
38A4-450D: Drop one power bomb and you will gain hundreds! Can also be
saved, but with this code you will lose all the extra bombs if you
collect one.
CE88-C5A7: Select Missile for strange cross between missiles, normal
beam, and the wave beam. Only the wave portion injures enemies.
8F25-3005: Samus is a one-hit wonder.

Supercharge Weapons: Deselect all weapons except Charge and one other
beam. Select power bombs and charge your weapon. After a few seconds a
super-strong attack will be unleashed at the cost of one power bomb. The
attack varies with each weapon.

Jump attack: Once you have the Charge beam you can charge it up to full
at any time and spin jump to do a weaker version of the Screw attack.
Note that you will be injured if you try this on a strong enemy.

Charge bombs: Power the charge beam up to full and keep holding the
attack button while you roll into a ball. You will release 5 normal
bombs at once, some of which will roll off to either side.

Refill All Energy: You need to have less than 50 energy, empty reserves,
and at least 10 missiles, 10 super missiles, and 11 power bombs for this
trick. Drop a power bomb and continue holding the attack button while
you press and hold L, R, and down. Your energy will be totally refilled
at the cost of 10 of each weapon.

Rescue the Animals: When fleeing Zebes, return to the room where you
collected bombs and fought the living statue. The bird and the three
small creatures (they're NOT elves!) will be there. Shoot out the right
wall to enable them to escape. (Believe it or not they have a ship!
Watch the nova closely!)

MEGA MAN X
________________________________________________________________________
Special Password - Start with level 4 shot, dash, armor, helmet, 4
subtanks, and 6 heart tanks but no bosses defeated (ordinarily
impossible): 3644-1138-4254

Game Genie codes:
DFB0-4461: Delayed weapon charge
EEBE-47AF: Start with max energy way above max
C2B4-1FF7: Mega Man intangible by all enemies!
C2B7-1FF7: No recoil from injuries
6DB0-CD97: Some enemies become bulletproof that were not before; others
that had armor lose it
6DB4-CD97: All enemies bulletproof
6DB6-CD97: Normal shots pass through enemies (can only injure the first
one they pass through); level 3/4 shots and some special weapons
continue firing until the enemy is out of the way or is destroyed (good
on bosses!)
6DBA-CD97: After shooting enemies enough to destroy them you can run
through them, but they can still shoot you
22BF-3F07: Start intro level with Flamethrower and with F.Mammoth
defeated
C9B8-4769: Cross-weapons! Select any special weapon (or do the
fireball). Fire it once. Return to X-buster and you can fire it
alternating with the special weapon you selected. Now select another
special weapon, fire it once, and return to X-buster and you can fire
the two special weapons alternating, and never run out of either! Some
weapons will actually combine with the other weapon and make it act
differently.

Pro Action Replay code:
7E0BCF10: Immune to most attacks (ignore meter)

All Heart Tanks:
Storm Eagle Stage: You must have the Acceleration System (speed
booster). Ride the first set of moving platforms to the top until the
platform reaches the top of its track. Speed boost to the left and jump
quickly. You will land on the ledge of the building you first started at
and find the heart tank.
Chill Penguin Stage: You will need the Flame Thrower. Get in the first
robot suit you encounter and head for the pillar to the right. Get on
this pillar, jump up, and jump out of the suit in mid-air by pushing up
and the jump button. Jump onto the edge of the cave ceiling and wall
jump up to the top. Destroy the first insect hive with the flame thrower
and there will be a heart tank in the remains.
Flame Mammoth Stage: You must defeat the Chill Penguin before you
attempt to get this one. After the Chill Penguin is defeated, all of the
lava in the stage will be covered by ice. Head for the area with the
pick-throwing miner robots. At the bottom of the screen under the
platform you will find the heart tank, accessible once the fire is gone.
Spark Mandrill Stage: This is probably the hardest one to get! Hang on
the wall directly underneath the heart tank and press the jump and speed
boost button at the same time. Push the control pad to the left and then
to the right. You should be hanging on the edge of the platform that the
tank is on. Jump up and get it.
Armored Armadillo Stage: Destroy the second rock crusher as soon as
possible. Try using the Flame Thrower on it. If you defeat it in time
you will be able to reach the heart tank to the right.
Launch Octopus Stage: Towards the middle of the stage you will find a
submarine. Ride one of the air lifts to the surface, jump out, and push
to the right to land on top of the Sub. To kill it shoot its "eye"
repeatedly. Ride the sub down to the bottom where it will fall through
the floor. Proceed to the right. Use the Air Blast on the Mech Eel you
encounter. Once it is destroyed go to the right and get the heart tank.
Sting Chameleon Stage: You must beat Launch Octopus and have the speed
booster. At the very first pit you come to slide down the edge. There
will be a wall to the right blocking you from the heart tank. Wall jump
on the bricks and they will break apart. Make sure that there is water
down here or you will fall into the pit! Dash and quickly jump to the
right and get the heart tank.
Boomer Kuwanger Stage: You will have to come back to this stage after
you get the boomerang from Kuwanger. Find the heart tank at the top of
the area outside the tower where all of the ladders are. Throw the
boomerang and it will retrieve the tank for you.

All SubTanks:
Storm Eagle Stage: Destroy the cannon on the elevator platform. Step
onto the empty platform and it will rise up to a glassed-in tower (you
must fire your shot first if you are charging up). Shoot the glass on
the side out and jump in. Head to the right, destroy the launcher, and
collect the tank.
Flame Mammoth Stage: In the area with pick-throwing miner robots you
will find a subtank. You must have the speed booster. Go to the top
platform, dash to the left, and jump quickly. Hang onto the wall and
shatter the bricks to the left by wall jumping. Then get the subtank.
Armored Armadillo Stage: When you drop down into the pit near the
beginning of the stage, hang onto the ledge and wait for the rock
crusher to pass. After it is gone go to the left and grab the subtank.
Spark Mandrill Stage: You must have the boomerang to get this. Go up the
first ladder, then go right and down the second ladder. Keep going right
until you are touching the wall and can see the subtank. Jump and throw
the boomerang as you are falling from the jump and it will retrieve the
tank for you.

All extra items that X can equip:
Acceleration System: In Chill Penguin stage. If you have this you will
be able to do a short dash by pushing the A button or forward twice.
This one has no secret to it, just keep going through the stage and you
will find it. In fact there is no way that you can avoid it.
Helmet Enhancement: In Storm Eagle Stage. Lets you break bricks with
your head, and prevents damage from some falling objects. Towards the
middle of the stage you must climb a large radio tower. Fall down the
right side of this tower. On the ledge at its foot, speed dash to the
right and jump quickly to reach the ledge above. Blow apart the
flammable tanks with the flamethrower (you can use the X-buster but it
takes longer) and head to the right to find the pod.
Body Armor: In Sting Chameleon stage. Takes off 50% of the damage X
takes. Approach the first pit, dash, and jump at the edge to reach the
cliff above. Proceed to the right and fight the claw robot. To kill him
hit him in eye using the Air Blaster. The pod will be revealed and you
will be released once you beat him.
Gun Enhancement: In Flame Mammoth Stage. In the corridor immediately
before the pick-throwing miner robots, there is a passage in the ceiling
filled with bricks. You must have the helmet and speed booster. Dash to
the left from the platform over the lava and jump quickly to break the
bricks and hang onto the wall. Wall jump up through the remaining bricks
to reach the pod.
Fireball: In Armored Armadillo stage. Lets you shoot a fire ball like
Ken and Ryu! You will need to defeat all of the first eight bosses and
get ALL of the heart tanks and Subtanks. Go to the end of the stage and
ride the last cart out over the pit. Jump from the cart towards the
cliff that is above the boss' door. Get the energy pod. Now fall down
into the chasm (or use Escape). Repeat this four more times and a power
up pod will appear! Enter it to get the fireball. To use the fireball
you must have FULL energy. Push down, down/forward, forward to fire.
This will kill ANY enemy in one hit, even the final boss!

Boss Weaknesses:
The bosses are listed in the order they should be fought. Backtrack to
get items that you missed.
Storm Eagle: This is the first stage you should attempt to beat. Power
up your X-Buster fully and attack the Storm Eagle. Dash or jump out of
the way when he comes down at you. (When you fight him the 2nd time use
the C.Sting.)
Flame Mammoth: Use the Air Blaster you got from the Storm Eagle to
defeat Flame Mammoth. He is fairly simple to defeat. When he is about to
land from one of his jumps you must jump or you will be knocked on the
floor by his incredible weight!
Chill Penguin: Fry the Penguin with the Flame Thrower and he will catch
on fire! Keep frying him and he will not even have a chance to attack
you!
Spark Mandrill: Use the Ice Beam and freeze this guy in his tracks.
After you hit him once with your Ice Beam he will break out of the ice.
Just hit him with it again, and again. When he fires an energy burst at
you just jump over it.
Armored Armadillo: You must have the Electrical Spark to defeat the
Armadillo. The first time you hit him with it his armor will fall off.
Then he will roll up into a ball and bounce around. Just hit him again
and he will fall down. Stay in the left corner to evade him when he
rolls up into a ball; you can jump over him easily from this safe spot.
Launch Octopus: If you already have the boomerang, you can cut 2 of his
arms off with one hit. If not, watch out when he makes a whirlpool; if
he gets you into it he will absorb your energy and take it for himself.
Shoot his missiles with the R.Shield and hit him with it as well.
Boomer Kuwanger: Use your homing missiles and constantly hit the bull.
Stay away from his horns or he will pick you up and throw you at the
ceiling. If he charges at you jump up and cling onto the wall.
Sting Chameleon: The chameleon is very easy if you have the boomerang.
Just throw it at him and he will fall and jump on the wall again. When
he hangs from the celling with his tongue hit him as soon as you can,
because he will shake and drop spikes from the celling. (Your helmet
cannot protect you from these.)
Sigma's Fortress:
Vile: Use your homing missile on Vile. Don't waste your time on him when
he is in his robot suit; he is invincible. Let yourself be injured until
Zero kills the suit.
Spider: This can be the hardest boss in the game, unless you have the
fireball. This is where I would strongly recommend getting it. If you do
not have it use the Ice Beam. Wait to attack until he goes to the bottom
of his 'web' and his "eye" opens.
Boss 3: Use the C.Sting on him, since you can't use the fireball. Attack
the nose when the walls close in on you, then either one of the eyes.
Make sure that you do not fall in the spikes. If you are having trouble
staying on the wall, power up the Sting all the way and it will make you
invincible for a short time.
Boss 4: Use the boomerang. To evade it all you have to do is jump
through it when it splits. You can even stand on it for a while; it will
not hurt you.
Sigma's pet: Use the Ice Beam on the dog. When it rushes at you, jump on
the wall. Watch for the fire it spits out at you and wall jump over it.
Sigma 1: Use the spark blast on Sigma. Just jump on the wall if he comes
after you.
Sigma 2: Besides the X-Buster and fireball, the only thing that works on
him is the R.Shield. The shield is much more powerful, though. Try to
stay on one of his hands to avoid the sparks and go to the very left or
right of the screen to avoid the fire.

Common enemy weaknesses:
Mortar turtles: Flame, Storm
Wall cannon (slides vertically): Homing, Shield blocks bullets
Platform cannon: Ice, Spark
4 way rotating cannon: Homing
Log cutter: Flame
Saw birds: Shield
Miners: Sting
Most enemies can't withstand more than 1 shot from the T.Storm or a
second of exposure to the flamethrower, although some enemies are
resistant to these.

Miscellaneous info:
Wreckage from Storm Eagle's ship will break the power supply for the
sparks and mid-boss in Spark Mandrill's stage if you beat Storm first.
Beating Chill Penguin will cause all the lava in Flame Mammoth's stage
to freeze.
Beating Launch Octopus will flood the first portion of Sting Chameleon's
stage, allowing you to get the heart tank but also giving the water
walkers a surface to slide on.
If you defeat the claw robot that guards the body armor blocks will stop
falling from the ceiling in the cave below.
All insect hives in Chill Penguin's stage can be destroyed by a punch
from a robot suit or a blast from the flamethrower.
If you are flashing after being hit you can dive into spikes without
being killed if you get out very quickly. Get hit on purpose to collect
1ups that have fallen into spikes.
The R.Shield when powered up to full projects a shield around you that
can injure enemies and is only destroyed by contact with an armored
enemy.
S.Ice creates a sled you can ride when fully powered. Run it into an
enemy or ride it across spikes.
C.Sting will make you temporarily invincible when fully powered, but
best of all you can still fire it while invincibility is active!

A NOTE FROM THE SPOOK
________________________________________________________________________
That about wraps up our third issue. Hope it was helpful. If you have
any suggestions for future articles you'd like to see or have a Q you
want A'd in the magazine, E-mail me at "TheS...@aol.com". And as
always, your contributions both informational and monetary (heh, heh)
are always welcome.

Our future projects include Breath of Fire and Final Fantasy II for the
SNES, Shining Force for the Genesis, and Dragon Warrior for the NES.
We're also hoping to get our snail mail version restarted, so if you
have an offline friend who would be willing to shell out a few bucks in
return for printing and mailing costs, let us know. We need to find
quite a few potential subscribers before we start that up again, though.

And so, friends, I draw my saber, bid you farewell, and sprint off down
the trail to catch up with the rest of the team. They're going to need
some help with that dragon. See you next issue!
