Who else thinks N64's slogan "Change the System" SUCKS? It's the
stupidest thing I've ever heard.

I agree. It is like Nintendo is conceding that everyone already owns a
different system.

I think the slogan is fantastic because of its double meaning. "Change
the system" could also mean "change the system of things", from less
immersive 2d games to more immersive ones. At least, that's how my
brother interpreted it.

"TRON"? Anybody remember that one? It came out in 1982. Was released by
Disney. Written and directed by Steven Lisberger. Starred Jeff Bridges and
Bruce Boxleitner as "Tron".
One line of action which happened to result in success for
Bridges' character was the erasing of the Master Control Program which
would "change the system". The computer world of "Tron" was 3D. The
changed system had all kinds of freedomn like that boasted of with a
Nintendo 64.

I'm trying to remember if there was an actual "change the system" phrase. I
remember Boxleitner's line of "My user has data that could make this a free
system again!" Dunno. I'll have to watch my slowly decaying tape and see.

This brings up something that has always been brewing in the back of my
mind... *When* is somebody going to make a GOOD light-cycles game?? For
years now, all "Tron" style games have been a single dot with a trail.
Somebody could have at least matched the style of the Tron arcade machine.

I foresee... Tron 64. :) From the team that once formed M Network, creators
of Tron Deadly Discs. Ah, if I only had that Tron joystick now...

It could easily be done using the following stages: light cycles (straight
from the film), tank battle (somewhat like arcade game, instead of top down
view, it would be "first person" tank warfare in a maze), disc arena (going
up against four other opponents, with different types of disc throws pulled
off in combos and, of course, a block button so you can recreate that cool
behind-the-back block in the film), I/O tower (where you first have to
successfully reach the tower, then, once you're there, you have to navigate
"cyberspace" to reach ALAN1 and complete the transmission), confrontation
with Sarc (battle it out with your giant nemesis), and, of course, going up
against the MCP.

And the hidden game would be... Score with Yuri. :) To get to it, you
simply have to forge your own account with the password REINDEER FLOTILLA.
:)

This would probably be suitable size for 64DD, but considering the
simplicity of the environment (the original was made of huge polygon faces
and only really used blue, white, red, and black), it could probably fit on
a 96mbit cart.

YES! Sounds kick-ass to me. I remember playing the Tron video games
in the arcades when I was younger. They kicked major ass! I have many a time
tried to convince my father (who also loved those arcade games) to buy the
Tron video game with the light cycles and such. Never had much success in
convincing him but it never stopped me from trying over and over again. I
would buy Tron 64 in a nanosecond if it ever came out. Any ideas about
suggesting it to someone? I myself really wouldn't know who to write. It
sounds cool though!

I would say to write an e-mail to Nintendo with the suggestion. If they
get enough of them, they might actually consider asking a video game
company to make it.
