The U64 prototype was on display this week at Siggraph in LA in the NEC
booth. It was displayed with a photo of the U64 motherboard. On Thursday
at the end of the show I managed to get three photos of the U64. One
photo should show the motherboard pretty clearly. I will upload them to
AOL when the pictures are developed sometime next week (hopefully they
will come out OK). As far as I know, this was the first public showing of
the U64 prototype case and motherboard (please tell me if I am wrong).

Also on display at Siggraph was an experimental RPG game at the SquareSoft
booth. They were at Siggraph looking for 3D programmers and artists. The
experimental game played a lot like FFIII except that all the characters
were displayed in real time. The player would pick an attack for a
character and the character would then act out the attack with awsome 3D
graphics. The test program ran like a looping video with no user
interaction. It was running on a high end SGI workstation (looked like
Reality Engine level graphics). The best bit was when the female
character summoned a dragon to attack the stone castle boss. While
visually awsome, the slow game play (as long as a minute or more per
attack) would get tiresome pretty soon after the player had watched all
the attack combinations. Square was also showing FFIII and Chrono
Trigger.
