I have read all of the reviews in gaming magazines (Next-Gen, EGM, etc...) &
I have been playing Zelda 64 since it was released on the 24th & am wondering
just how this is the game of the century? My majoar complaint is the poor
camera views at times...which is difficult (to say the least) to direct where
you want/need to look. Don't get me wrong, I love the game but this in
itself would keep me from giving it a perfect rating, especially considering
the perfect camera work that Konomia did in Metal Gear Solid. Does anyone
else agree with me on this? And since I'm complaing about Zelda, didn't we
see much of the same game play, layout, ect...in Mario 64?

I haven't had any problems with the camera at all in Zelda, especially
compared to other free-camera games. Overall, it's been excellent, IMO.
There have only been a few narrow hallways where the camera has been
difficult to control.

Here's a hint: next time you want to look in different direction, use
the C-up button. (Works in most areas)

Yuck, no. Don't use C to to change your view on the fly. Just quickly tap Z.
The camera will come up right behind your head.

And use the Z-trigger to pop the camera back behind Link, when you find
yourself running into/off the sides of the screen.

How can you say the top down camera of MGS was good??? this has got to be the
worst camera view for a stealth game. I mean, the inability to see more than
10 ft in front of you without constantly stopping to see through the
character's eyes is ridiculous. Sure, they gave you a radar to make up for
that, but that does not mean the camera is a good one.

Agreed. My friends who have also played MGS agree too. Try playing with
Hard or Extreme difficulty modes. These have no radar (which I think is
fairly cheap, and reduces the game to a pixel-sized 2D game :-)
First-person, in theory, would be much more realistic and playable.
Otherwise you do have to keep going into first-person view to see what the
guards are up to (as you say above). In an interview with the creator,
there was mention of personal discomfort when playing first-person 3D
games (some people can't take the 3D). Too bad.

I thought the camera was well done. If you want to talk about interfering
camera angles, talk about Quest 64. Half the time I couldn't see what the hell
I was doing because a tree was in the way or something.

I would disagree. MGS' camera might not be perfect but it is better develoved
& more advanced than that found in Zelda 64. Never before had I played a game
where the camera vantage point would actually change in order to benefit the
player & not the computer's AI. Granted the top down view has been done
before but the fact that one could lean up against a wall a sneak a peak was
brillant & unique. On the other hand Zelda 64's camera I find to be
cumbersome & bland. There is nothing worse in a game than death or life
drained because the player isn't able to quickly control or direct the
chacters view point, this I have encountered from the very beginning of the
game. (And the radar was affective although not ground breaking.) Over all I
would say that MGS is a better/more enjoyable game than a 3D version of an
old SNES game. I think most of the high ratings it has received are from
reviewers who want nothing more than a new/good game on Nintendo's failing
system. Zelda offers us nothing that we haven't seen in other games (ie Super
Mario 64) , it's just the fact that it's Zelda, it looks great, & the world's
greatest video game developer was behind it (SM). Now, back to playing
Zelda!....I love the game but I don't think it;s THEE game of all games...
