Sound played from CD takes up a lot of space on the CD. Its just that there
is more space to use, so it can be. After all 78 minutes or so is about all that
can fit on a Cd.

Well I'm a 20 year old and I love the games on the N64. Perhaps I'm just a big kid
though.

Mario, WaveRace, Mario Kart, Starwing(/fox) and many more only on Nintendo (as it says
on the box)

True. But, does it matter? Tekken2`s FMV is wonderful, but I never watch
it now.
> 2. N64 is based more at children, not as many games will

> Playstation has been aimed more at teenagers.
At 250 GBP, with games at 50 GBP + the N64 is most certainly not aimed at
children, or even teenagers. As with the PSX, it`s a "cooltoy", aimed at
the 20`s earners.
> 3. Playstation will get ports from PC CDROM games, very little

True. What does this mean? More crap PC software flooding the PSX market?
Ho wmany PC converts ahve been good? C&C was "OK". All the good PSX stuff
is original.
As for the N64, no ports = more thought put into games.
> 4. Sony will keep on reducing the price of software and

Actually, as Nintendo have been around since the 1930`s, they have about
the same experience. Mind you, of course, Sony have experience in a far
wider area. However, Nintendo have the games experience. Half a dozen of
one, 6 of the other.
> 5. Even when your console does become out of date, try playing

True. But what sort of person / how many people would/ uses a PSX only
for music?

Zelda 64 has just been announced as a non-drive game. Oh dear, get the
facts straight.

true, partly because of the limited number available. And yes, the price
drop has done one huge thing for sony - it`s opened up the "parents
buying for children" market, which Sega and Nintendo (a few years ago)
had stitched up - a whole new audience. great move.

400 games? probably. the only ones I continually play are TK2, Wipeout
2097, Tempest X and Pandemonium. On the N64 I have PilotWings, Mario,
Wave race and Turok, and all are addictive as Tk2.

Whereas ypou prefer the simple porting of PC games to the PSX? You can`t
have two defiinitions of originality. And anyway, Tekken2 is hardly a new
concept, nor Tombraider, nor anything - it`s the implementation and
advancement that makes things new.
> 10. Rage Racer, Soul Edge, Tekken 3, Time Crisis, and many more

The PSX will never run Tekken3, without modifications. The others are
good, very good infact (tho I do have a PAL PSX and so am longingly
waiting for Soul), but there are other exclusives on the N64 - Mario for
example. It`s a new machine remember, with a limited number of decent
games, just like the PSX was whhen I bought one of theose.
Just my objective 2 cents.
Why argue? Both are good machines.

10 Reasons why N64 is not going to overtake Playstation
=======================================================
1. The N64 will never be able to use FMV or CD Quality Sound,
the N64 does have high quality sound but to use samples of
44MHz+ (CD QUALITY) would take up far too much cart and
memory space. Sound played direct from CD takes hardly any
memory.
2. N64 is based more at children, not as many games will
interest teenagers (currently the larger sales market).
Playstation has been aimed more at teenagers.
3. Playstation will get ports from PC CDROM games, very little
software is ported to SATURN and N64 from PC titles.
4. Sony will keep on reducing the price of software and
hardware and they can afford to as their marketing teams have
many years more experience with driving sales than NINTENDO.
5. Even when your console does become out of date, try playing
a music CD on a N64!
6. N64 Bulky drive is the only way you are going to be able to
play most of the future releases IE: ZELDA 64.. so already
Nintendo are insisting on upgrading your machine?
7. Sales of the N64 are already slowing down, and as Sony drop
the price of the Playstation to £129 in the UK sales are
rocketing, with most shops sold out in the first week.
8. Playstation has over 400 games either available now or in
development, alright not all are spectacular, but what is
important is that their are plenty of games available for
you to choose from and not just 10 games of which 4 are
crap.
9. Nintendo are rereleasing old games with a 64 on the end. Why
not NEW games with a fresh feeling, is mario the charater of
the 90s or just a remix of an old arcade charater, from the
very early 80s.
10. Rage Racer, Soul Edge, Tekken 3, Time Crisis, and many more
all exclusive to the worlds only leader.
SONY PLAYSTATION .... Nintendo had it once, and failed but
Sony knew a good thing when they had it.
=======================================================
>2. N64 is based more at children, not as many games will

I Don't know any children who can afford £250 and £70+ a game, do you ?
(by the way I am 25)
>3. Playstation will get ports from PC CDROM games, very little

I have a PC and most of the so called games are rubbish, with the exception
of Quake, and Tie Fighter.

Nintendo have one think, product recognition. No one else has had the name
Nintendo has in the Video gaming world, and no one ever will. People dont
say 'Johny is playing vide games', they say 'Johny is playing Nintendo'.
Simple as that, marketing does matter but Nintendo had the edge before Sony
even thought of creating a console.
>5. Even when your console does become out of date, try playing

Why, very expensive Cd-Player don't you think.

OK. But you can do a hell of a lot in 32Mb, most PSX games use more than
half the CD for Music, and the game only takes up about a quarter of whats
left, after you allow for the FMV and such. More space is not necessary if
you use the space youve got well.
>7. Sales of the N64 are already slowing down, and as Sony drop

The only reason for the playstation price drop seems to have been panic by
Sony just before the release of the N64. Could this be true, are Sony
running scared. Get a calendar and work out the dates, and judge for
yourself.

Yeh! did the PSX have 400 games out when it was first released, NO. The N64
is a completely new machine, not a so called established machine, make this
argument in another 12 months.
>9. Nintendo are rereleasing old games with a 64 on the end. Why

Almost every single game, on every format, for the last 5 years has been a
rehash on an already established theme, or genre. Why lie, at least
Nintendo are admitting that the games are newer versions of old games, not
just disguising the fact.
>10. Rage Racer, Soul Edge, Tekken 3, Time Crisis, and many more

Wuppy Do... Mario64, MarioKart64, WaveRace64 the list goes on. Nintendo
have always produced inovative, original, and exclusive games for all there
machines. This argument just doesn't stand up.

Anyway why argue, I use both, like both the arguments just dont stand up in
either ones favour. Well just have to see how the next twelve months pan
out.

Mechwarrior - PSX & Saturn
Quake - N64, PSX & Saturn
Hexen 1 & 2 - PSX & Saturn
Command & Conquer - PSX & Saturn
Duke Nukem 3D - PSX & Saturn (N64?)
WarCraft - PSX & Saturn
Crusader No Remorse - PSX
X-Com - PSX
Descent - PSX
Wing Commander IV & V - PSX

Actually, 100% of all games introduced for the Nintendo64 will be on
cartridge. Some of them will offer enhancements by using 64DD for
customizing levels and other things (high scores, custom cars and
tracks, etc.). You will NEVER see a game running from 64DD without a
cartridge plugged into the top of the N64. You don't have to believe
me, but its true. Take care, happy gaming, enjoy life!

: Myst - PSX & Saturn
Unless I'm mystaken (sorry about the pun), Myst hasn't been released
for the PlayStation.
: Tomb Raider 1 & 2 - PSX & Saturn
These aren't PC ports. These were done at the same time as the
console counterparts.
: Mechwarrior - PSX & Saturn
: Quake - N64, PSX & Saturn
No quake yet, take this off the list.
: Hexen 1 & 2 - PSX & Saturn
Same as above.
: Command & Conquer - PSX & Saturn
I was surprised to see how screwed over the Saturn users were
concerning this title.....the PSX owners got almost twice as many
missions as the Saturn.....
: Duke Nukem 3D - PSX & Saturn (N64?)
All three will see Duke3D, but the Saturn will get it first.
: WarCraft - PSX & Saturn
Not released yet....
: Crusader No Remorse - PSX
: X-Com - PSX
One of the best titles available, IMHO.
: Descent - PSX
And Descent Maximum.....wonder what happened to the Saturn version.
: Wing Commander IV & V - PSX
That should be Wing Commander III and IV.

How much are you willing to wager? By producing a game like that
(cart AND DD) you INCREASE the production costs on an already
expensive machine to produce for. You WILL see 64DD only games, i can
guarantee it. :)

No one. When the day arrives that you can render photorealistic scenes in
realtime everyone will probably be doing that. BUT the N64 certainly can't.
It's absolutely NO WHERE NEAR photorealistic.
I like the rendered intro's on games, but it's true that basically they
serve no purpose.

Yes, I agree. 95% of all PC title are utter shite. It's no loss not
getting conversions.
Also, Shadows of the Empire is being converted to PC from N64 anyway, and
I would imagine it would be much better on a PC. Faster, better GFX etc.

Yes I agree. Sony have little experience in the software scene.

Not at all. With PSX's at 129.00 UKP thats virtually the same price as a
CD walkman.

True. But the ability to always have more if needed is nice.

Total bollocks. I imagine Sony will have had this strategy planned months
in advance. Rather than being scared of Nintendo they're just employing
clever marketing to offset sales of N64's.
Companies the size of Sony don't get scared. Nothing is a rush job.
Everything is planned to the minutest detail.

You assume that the N64 will still be here in 12 months.
Nintendo had their shares suspended earlier this year because the console
had massively UNDERSOLD in Japan.

We may eventually see 64DD only games, but with Nintendo's history
of controlling developers, Nintendo may well force the companies to
make cartridge games as well as 64DD games.. and several would refuse
based on that problem. Nintendo needs to change their policies
towards third party manufacturers.
...and back in the early 80s you always heard ``Johnny is playing Atari''
back before Nintendo thought of making a console. And now Atari is gone.
Don't think that the same thing can't happen to Nintendo.

FMV is WAY overrated. Too many CD games are more movie than video game.
I buy a game for the play, not to watch a movie. A lot of gamers skip
past the movies, anyway.
> 2. N64 is based more at children, not as many games will

Nope. Nintendo is based for ALL people, not just the 16-25 year olds. I
would never allow kids to play games like MKT, Doom 64, and upcoming Duke
64. As for the "kiddie" games like Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64, a lot of
people of all ages play these games. I'm 23, and Super Mario Kart is my
favorite game and was a favorite of a lot of people at college.

This is one of the reasons why I bought a N64. I have a PC w/ CD-ROM.
Why buy a PSX to get two versions of Tomb Raider, C&C, etc? I can't find
Mario 64 or Mario Kart 64 on the PC, like you can with PSX games.

Hasn't the N64 been reduced to $150 (from $200)? Aren't the games made by
Nintendo $60, which is only $10 more than PSX games?
Hasn't Nintendo been in the video game industry a lot longer than Sony? I
seem to remember having Nintendo video games for my old ColecoVision.

Ah....yes. That's exacly why I buy video game systems -- to play CDs.

Was there going to be a PSX2 on the horizon? Isn't that upgrading?

Slowing down, but probably still on top. I read that Nintendo had seven
of the top selling games last month--two for the SNES and five for the
N64, with Mario Kart 64 as the top selling game. That statement may be
true in the UK, but not true in the USA.

N64 has about fourteen games, and the only two that are generally
considered crap are Cruisin' USA and MKT. So, two out of fourteen games
are crap is an excellent ratio. Don't tell be the PSX has hundreds of
quality games.
Anyway, how many games did the PSX have after seven months?

First of all, they are not remakes, but entirely new games with the same
characters. Title familiarity brings people to buy games. Hell, I bought
a N64 because it has (or will have): Mario 64, Donkey Kong Contry 64,
Mario Kart 64, Zelda 64, and possibly Metroid 64. People love sequels.
Look at the PC. Warcraft 2, C&C red Alert, Civ 2, and TIE Fighter are
some of the best and most popular games, and are all sequels.
This can even apply to movies. You better boycot the Star Wars prequels,
since it will have some of the same characters and ideas from shows back
to the 70's. Wait to see the gross of Jurrasic Park 2: The Lost World and
Batman and Robin (characters that date back to the 40's) this summer, and
see what I mean.

Gee, for number nine you're talking about fresh, new games, and yet you
list Tekken 3. Talk about hypocrasy. I suppose that you don't want FF7,
either, since it doesn't have a fresh feeling.
So, tell me, can you get Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Wavrace 64, or upcoming
Zelda 64 on the PSX?

A lot has been released for the PSX, in Japan. Many are English games
that originate in UK or the US that are "easier" to port to Japan than to
port back. ;) This includes Wizardry and many other games. It's all
marketing.

Well, low-res, low-poly count scenes on the N64 just can't compare to
more expensive, more capable 3D machines that render the FMV in the first
place. Otherwise, people would just use the machine realtime instead of
FMV to avoid the compression artifacts that fuzz the nice FMV picture.
Oh great another insecure PSX owner.

Oh yeah! I have something better than a PSX for playing CD's. It's called
a CD player.
Which is what I use if I want to hear music. If I want to play games I use
my N64 which does a better job. The sound off of the N64 is superb.

No the N64 is not based for anything it is just a game console. The
current list of games is what targets a specific market and that can change
like the wind. Nintendo targets it's own games for the mass public not
just teenagers. That is why Nintendo games are cartoon like and fun and
have always sold better than most games. How can you make such a statement
when the games are just starting to come out? I suppose Doom is just for
children.
>
> 3. Playstation will get ports from PC CDROM games, very little

The N64 is getting ports from PC games as well. (Quake, Doom, Duke, etc.)
The PSX may be CD-ROM but it only has 2 megs of general ram. It still
takes work to port just like the N64. The N64 with the 64DD will have 8
megs of RAM which is the current minimum amount of RAM needed to run most
PC games. The 64DD using compression can hold most PC games not including
a cartridge. Games that use OpenGL are easier to port to the SGI based
N64. We will see.
>
> 4. Sony will keep on reducing the price of software and

Sony can only drop its price so far. Nintendo has been in the game
business long before Sony. Sony has also lost it's Market share lead to
Nintendo after the N64 came out. (Go read Next Gen on-line February and
March). Sony was forced to drop it's price or lose more market share.
Nintendo with the N64 is just getting started and don't forget about the
rest of Nintendo's products.
>
> 5. Even when your console does become out of date, try playing

That is such a stupid argument. I'll buy a CD player to play CD's and an
N64 to play games.
>

The N64 plus the 64DD will probably still be less than or equal to the
introductory price of the PSX. The 64DD includes a modem, and 4 megs of
ram and a Zelda 64.
> 7. Sales of the N64 are already slowing down, and as Sony drop

For a game console that has only been out since August of 96 has already
exceeded half of the PSX install base which has been around for more than 2
years. Sony better drop the price.
> 8. Playstation has over 400 games either available now or in

Oh give me a break. You are already claiming victory on a new console that
has only been out 9 months. When the PSX first came people paid top dollar
for a few games of which some were crap. Besides even with your rating
10:4 is a better ratio than the current list of PSX games.

No one is re-releasing anything except Disney unless they do a remake like
101 Dalmatians. Nintendo has a history. The games are re-makes not
re-releases. It gives people something to relate to and if the games are
better so what. Sony didn't have a history but that doesn't stop them from
making versions 2 and 3 of their own games.

Well according to Next Gen on-line (2/4/97 TRST backs Nintendo victory)
(3/25/97 Third parties loosens hardware grip) it looks like Sony has lost
it. Nintendo has exclusive games too so don't be so quick to gloat. The
PSX is a good value but you can't ignore the N64 with it capabilities that
the PSX doesn't have. The install base of the N64 is still growing and if
people think that the current games are great the next ones coming from
Nintendo are even better. People should just enjoy their games and stop
competing.
> Unless I'm mystaken (sorry about the pun), Myst hasn't been released

Myst has been out for the PSX since last year (maybe earlier). It just
wasn't hyped up or popular ('cause it's not a good game). :)

Funny I am looking at the release list for the next 4 months and only

The FMV intros set the seen for the rest of the game (Wipeout's pumped
up race intro, RE's Hell Dog chasing them into the house) they are used
to tell the story insted of some crap text. I see 4 games coming in the
next 4 months I want to buy for PSX and only one for N64.
Sory for the Nintendo newsgroups just tring to get a point across I do
think that the N64 will be better with the 64DD and will buy one when it
comes out.

Since when has it made a game require skill ? In my opinion FMV makes a
game A mindles eyepleaser requirering little or no skill , I Say cut back
on the FMV and programers will have to depend on creativity instead of eye glitter

The rest of the American Video Game Industry , Two reasons , People are Content with what they got

Makes it fact , Not at all , to be Incredibally Candid all thre Competitors have failed .
By using this guy's Assumtion of what makes N64 A failure , Then all of them Have failed .
Explanation : As long as he is going to compare Sales , Why not compare past sales of Things
Like NES and SNES after a Few weeks of National Release NES sold more than PSX and N64 combined
There are now over 45 Million NES's Sold , SNES had a Simaler Story , Now it has over 20 Million sold

Who cares!!!! The overall of the N64 are better than PSX.

Eh, for children. Let me refresh your mind. I am 20 years old and I am
still playing Nintendo. Many of my friend who are same age as me still
playing Nintendo. All I say is that Nintendo are for all age while you said
it is aim for teenagers. So Nintendo are better.

Playstation have to copy the games from PC titles while N64 make new ones!!!

Go to the store more often. N64 do reducing the price. If you said that
they are expensive. I will say because it is new. If PSX sell new game (the
original one), they will sell high but they keep copy them from PC while I
can get them in computer store. What a waste!!!

Read the gamer books! Zelda 64 will not need to have 64DD.

Like I said before, go to store more often. Thank you.

Congratulation to reach 400+ games but they all are copy and can buy from
computer store for PC computer while N64 have 6 new original game and more
to come in future.

It make me feel bond to game character than keep making more new character.

We do have games that are exclusive to the worlds, too.

: Sound played from CD takes up a lot of space on the CD. Its just that there
: is more space to use, so it can be. After all 78 minutes or so is about all that
: can fit on a Cd.

: though.

How many 64bit rehash of a 16bit game do you need? Just put in SNES library
and add a 64 on the end and you got the eventual library of N64 minus some
biggies...like FFVII...so far N64 is a disappointment for me
Z
In Command And Conquer it's used PERFECTLY. I enjoy it at least.

: This is one of the reasons why I bought a N64. I have a PC w/ CD-ROM.
: Why buy a PSX to get two versions of Tomb Raider, C&C, etc? I can't find
: Mario 64 or Mario Kart 64 on the PC, like you can with PSX games.
I happen to like PC ports, so I can play the good games without having
to spend $2000 every 2 years.....
: Hasn't the N64 been reduced to $150 (from $200)? Aren't the games made by
: Nintendo $60, which is only $10 more than PSX games?
Well, the Sony games are being released for $39.99 so that's a $20 gap
on "first party" games, which extends to third party games as well,
when the N64's are $75 and the PSX's are $50-55.
: Hasn't Nintendo been in the video game industry a lot longer than Sony? I
: seem to remember having Nintendo video games for my old ColecoVision.
Those were made by Coleco, liscenced by Nintendo. the Big N sold off
the rights to the games.
But yes, Nintendo has been making video games for quite a while, but
Sony learned quickly how to do it.

It's a nice side effect. And on some games you can play the soundtrack....

: Was there going to be a PSX2 on the horizon? Isn't that upgrading?
That's not an upgrade to a machine, that's an entirely different
machine in and of itself. The Sega CD and 32X are the equivalents
here, not a PlayStation2.
: > 7. Sales of the N64 are already slowing down, and as Sony drop

: Slowing down, but probably still on top. I read that Nintendo had seven
: of the top selling games last month--two for the SNES and five for the
: N64, with Mario Kart 64 as the top selling game. That statement may be
: true in the UK, but not true in the USA.
SNES has a HUGE user base, and the ratio of games to consoles for the
N64 is outrageously high. No wonder they have the top selling games,
everyone has to buy the same stuff!

: N64 has about fourteen games, and the only two that are generally
: considered crap are Cruisin' USA and MKT. So, two out of fourteen games
: are crap is an excellent ratio. Don't tell be the PSX has hundreds of
: quality games.
I have 22 quality games that I own, which is 8 more than are released
for the N64!
: Anyway, how many games did the PSX have after seven months?
the Playstation had at least 50 games by January 9th, 1996. That was
3 months after release. I am not sure how many were released in
7...maybe someone has a complete list somewhere?
: So, tell me, can you get Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Wavrace 64, or upcoming
: Zelda 64 on the PSX?
No. do people who bought a PlayStation want them? no.
That's correct, streamed CD music doesn't use much memory because the PSX
doesn't have enough memory to begin with. Now, for the capacity that a CD
can hold, well that is another thing. But, seriously, what is the point
of FMV? Yeah, maybe D was good, but the rest of the FMV games out there
are, well, crap. If the PSX was a dedicated hardware for watching video,
I won't complain if it ended up with some games, but wasn't that the CD-i?
>>2. N64 is based more at children, not as many games will

Not much argument here, but (using the very old argument), Mortal Kombat
Trilogy, Star Wars, KIG, WaveRace sure wasn't aimed toward little kiddies.
>>3. Playstation will get ports from PC CDROM games, very little
>> software is ported to SATURN and N64 from PC titles.
Yeah, in other words you are saying that you are willing to accept
generally inferior remakes of PC games on your PSX for the same price?
You want original games!! You want remakes/conversions? The Saturn can
do a lot better with arcade conversions for 2D games!
>>4. Sony will keep on reducing the price of software and
>> hardware and they can afford to as their marketing teams have

Yes, Nintendo can't win here without reducing the price of the cartridges,
but both the N64 and PSX lowered in price! In fact, the price for either
system is seet at about $150.
>>5. Even when your console does become out of date, try playing

Try finding really original games on the PSX.
>>6. N64 Bulky drive is the only way you are going to be able to

Yep and Sony doesn't want you to do the same thing when PSX C comes out
with more RAM and some new circuitry/built-in software thingies that will
make it easier for the new console from Sony to be more backward
compatible.
Sony doesn't insist on it, but if you want some of the even newer games...
>>7. Sales of the N64 are already slowing down, and as Sony drop
>> the price of the Playstation to £129 in the UK sales are

Sales of every system slows down as enough people get one.
Maybe in UK where the N64 price did not drop (did it?) sales didn't soar
like the sales of the PSX, but you can't say that that is proof the PSX is
a better system. Let us see what really happens when both systems are the
same price and have enough time to build a user base. The PSX is getting
old and the N64 is just starting off. But goddamn it Nintendo, hurry up
with the freaking games!!!!!
>>8. Playstation has over 400 games either available now or in

Which games are crap really depends on who plays it doesn't it?
So far the only games that I like on the PSX is SFA/SFA2. Final Fantasy?
Haven't played that one yet.

Hey, didn't you just say that the PSX is re-releasing a lot of the old PC
games? Yeah, sure, that fresh feeling. Let us see how many games the PSX
has that never appeared in the arcades, computers or other home consoles.
>>10. Rage Racer, Soul Edge, Tekken 3, Time Crisis, and many more

Yes they do. The PSX is not bad at all, but if it really was the world
leader, it should be able to handle every game thrown at it.
As long as the games which are produced are good and I enjoy them, I don't care what
the story line is. And there are new title on teh way as well you know.
So far there are only 6 games released in the UK, but thats ok by me because I've had
my N64 for 2 months (ie release date) and I have bought two games (Mario and WaveRace).
I am perfectly happy with these games, and even if there were 100 released in the last
2 months I expect I would only have bought 2 games.
Stu.
Has as much as the N64.

Have you played FF7? A form of FMV has been used in Nintendo games since
the NES. This is just another step in the eveloution of FMV.

I agree... I think this whole TeenagerVSkiddie is BS. Like you really
didn't like Mario Bros? :)

Why, yes. If I don't get to play HITS on the PC because I don't own one,
then the answer is yes.

Yes, you want origionals like... Hexen? Doom? Quake? etc etc etc.

No argue there. The price of software is all that really matters though.
> >>5. Even when your console does become out of date, try playing

Sorry sir, you lose. The PSX has many more origional games than the N64
will ever have. But as far as playing a CD on the PSX.... yeah right. Why
play a CD on the PSX when you can on a CD player.

Agreed, but there is a different strategy behind the two. Sony does it to
upgrade the system to make it better. N64 does it to give the N64
something to fight with. The bulky drive is no more than a way for them to
release the N64 at the price they had set.

Hey, it's nintendo's fault you aren't getting games. Why? They are trying
to do the same strong arming of the Third Party Developers that they did
when they were on top. Nintendo doesn't know how to play catch up and
frankly I think even if they did they wouldn't.

About MOST.

Well, to quote a very smart person on the net... "Which games are crap
really depends on who plays it doesn't it?" With this in mind, I LOVE Time
Crisis. You like Wave Race, so what's the diff?

Yes, just like the N64 with it's cart limits and strong arm on the Third
Parties.

Just to verify it's close to 600 world-wide.

Or they could draw it by hand and scan in each frame to make a segment of

I don't buy games for the damn soundtrack, I buy them for graphics and

Uh, can you say Turok, Unreal, Duke Nukem, etc. Not exactly kids games.

Wrong. Current ports planned include Unreal, Duke Nukem, Hexen, Quake,
Command and Conquer, etc. In fact, most of these are already in the
works. Also, Doom 64, though not a port, was originally a PC title.

That's what stereos are for. I can play a CD on my PC too, but it
sounds like shit compared to a stereo system.

What about the rumors around the Playstation, with Sony planning to
upgrade the thing for the newer games coming out?

Nintendo has outsold Sony every month since it's release. Around here
(Wisconsin, USA) there is a glut of PSX's while Nintendo's are
completely sold out...systems, controllers, everything!

Give N64 time, they will make up the gap.

So? The game was declared Greatest Video Game of All Time by
NextGeneration, a mag not known for their love of Nintendo.

Your arguments do not hold water, as I have destroyed nearly all of
them. The N64 is the king and Sony will have to scramble to meet the
higher power of the N64. I will give you one thing, Nintendo was dumb
for not going to CD.

"Those who are upset by criticism admit that they deserve it."
Cornelius Tacitus, Roman historian
1) The CD sound thing needs a lot more reading done by the people
saying that you can only get 78 min. of sound on a cd. This is not true
cd's are digital (i.e everything stored in binary code) music is read
and translated by the cd player not the PSX's prosesors. The only reason
music companies use more than one cd is to rase the price (cd bootlager
know this they put two or three cd on just one)
2) FMV is used to try and get the story across
3) A good game in an oppion and should not be showed down anyones
throgt. As of this time I only want one N64 game. other may want any of
the games out.
4) the N64 exclusive thing is going down as a lot of the games come to
PSX or are coming (i.e a game based on the Turok world is coming out for
PSX some time next year.
With 6 Million N64's and climbing plus all the other products with it's
large market share I don't think so.

Disagree. Things that N64 are better: texture mapping, 64-bit, fast
loading, faster processor.
PSX: polygon count (TWICE as much TEXTURE MAPPED ploygons per sec,
according to the specs I seen, 200,000 vs. 100,000; PSX can display
360,000 flat-shad polygons per sec), CD-ROMs (600+ MBytes per CD,
muti-CD games), games and more games, only system allow you to link-up
(two full screen arcade gaming), FMVs, more space for music and voices.

N64 can make games? Really? :) Many (out of 600+) games are made for the
PSX (and some for Saturn also), but we ALSO get many PC game ports. So
we got both. Yet you don't, well, not as often.

Even the NEW PSX games cost under $50. N64 games are expensive becuz N64
uses CART (how many time have we said that).

I bet you don't know that you can buy ONE CD contain 29, that's right
kids, 29 N64 games! You use a "Doctor V64" to play the disc....

But most of them are from NINTENDO.
:) There will a PSX AND PC version of Turok. Exclusive? I think not.

oh, I wouldn't say "destroyed"
The N64 is the king and Sony will have to scramble to meet the

hahahahahahahaha, I just gonna laugh at something like that. How much
3rd party support Nintendo got? With all the RPGs (esp. those from
Square and Enix) PSX gonna rule in Japan. Hell, even Saturn is doing
better N64 in Japan. The PSX is still doing better in Europe. The only
market where N64 is doing good is in US. But PSX is doing just as good
as the N64 (actually better around here).
I will give you one thing, Nintendo was dumb

You got it!

I bet there is a reason that you call yourself "The single guy". That
paper weight you are talking about just took 4 awards at the CGDC show. I
didn't read anything about the PSX. Maybe you have the wrong paper weight.
You have to be able to do real 3-D on the fly to be called a capable 3-D
machine. Maybe the term movie player will suite you better.

While the Modem has sort of been confirmed and the 4 megs of ram
confirmed, a Zelda 64 pack in is not confirmed nor likely. Nintendo said
that the DD version of Zelda will be released up to a year after the
cart version. The cart version will arrive sometime this fall and I
doubt that Nintendo will delay the release of the DD until late '98 just
so they can pack in Zelda 64.

The tables are turned now, while the N64 was hard to find during Xmas,
the PSX is hard to find now. At Target company wide, the PSX is
outselling the N64 about 3 to 1. At my store, we have 50 N64's in stock
and have been selling one or two a week for the past two months. The PSX
sales have been ten times that, and would be higher if we didn't keep
running out of them.

TRST hardly means anything when comparing total game sales. Even though
the few N64 titles available dominate the chart, total PSX game sold far
out number total N64 games sold because there are so many more games
available to buy and choose from. Not to mention that they are less
expensive, so your gaming dollar buys more.

That's funny. I have rented every game available for the N64 and
they've all left me disappointed.
As of now, there are only two games worth
owning.. Mario and Waverace.

IMO, the soundtrack can really impact the game's presentation when done
well. (How many FF3 players care to argue the point?) To say music isn't
relevant is like proclaiming that color games are fluff. That you'd
rather the programmers use 2 bit color becasue playability is all that
counts.

Sony doesn't seem especially amenable to the idea from what Namco's been
saying lately. Besides, even in the rumors, it's coming in the form of a
minor (and inexpensive) RAM upgrade. That's a tad different than the
64DD.

Looking at release lists, and Nintendo's past not to mention the slow to
build 3rd party support... Not gonna happen. The N64 will have a
substancially smaller library. (that's not saying anything about the
games that *are* going to be offered though) I'd personally say 200 N64
games by 2000 is really pushing the envelope...

Um, just because the data is digital doesn't mean that you can fit an
unlimited amount of data on a disc. There are 650 megabytes of space on
a compact disc, which translates (at a sample rate of 44.1 KHz) to about
78 minutes of music. I have never seen an audio cd with more than 78
minutes of music, and from my understanding, is not possible without
loss of musical quality.

Yes, but it is not essential to a game. You can get a story across with

True, a totally valid point, and the bottom line of all N64/PSX/SS sucks!
threads is that people should by the system (or systems) that have the
games that they like.

Actually, Turok is the only current "exclusive" N64 game that is
getting developed for another platform. You will never see Mario,
Mario Kart, WaveRace, Blast Corps, PilotWings, Killer Instinct,
Cruis'n USA, or Shadows of the Empire on a PSX or Saturn much like you
will never see Crash Bandicoot, Virtua Fighter or any other Sega or
Sony made games on the N64.

"athority" is spelled "authority"; "you" should have been "your";
"hatered" is actually "hatred"; "Rat-Bastereds" is spelled "Rat
Bastards"; what the hell is "bumb"; "playes" is actually "plays".
That's 7 mistakes in one paragraph. He spelled "suit" with an 'e' on the
end and didn't use quotation marks (and they don't even belong with the
word capable.). Practice what you preach. I think the term "moron" is
better suited for you.

Let me paraphrase 9. :
Sony Playstation is just releasing old games with a new name. Ridge
Racer is just Pole Position with a new name, and Tekken 3 and
Soul Edge are just Street Fighter with new names. No NEW games,
just new names.

Sony running scared, I've hear it all now.
Listen to yourself please, Sony is one of the largest companies in the
world with a vast range of products of great diversity and they also
happen to be one of the largest record companies in the world.
There is now way that the success/failure of the playstaion is going to
make or break them.
Think about this for a minute. What products had Nintendo be selling
recently before the launch of the N64?
Remember the story about Nintendo approaching Sony to make a CD system
for the SNES then pulling the plug on it after Sony has spent big bucks
developing it then this CD system later went on to become the
Playstation.
Sony could have just written it off at that but they didn't.
If you haven't worked it out yet, the purpose of the Playstation is to
kill off Nintendo for welching on the deal and that's exactly what it
will do.
The is absolutey no way Nintendo can match the corporate muscle of Sony
and the will lose.
Who's scared now?

Well than you're probably looking at the release list of last year!
By the way, 8 of the topselling games in the US are Nintendo games.
Even DKC3 outsells EVERY 32bit title. Shows only that Quality is
everything and
that in the end, PS owners have to look harder for quality titles than
N64 owners.

There's at least 75% chance that if you buy a PS title, you'll buy

Well that's because you're a sad moron, who doesn't know quality!
Buy the way, a Miyamoto game stands for months of fun, so it still
doesn't matter to most of us who played Nintendo games.

If you can name _all_ the games the N64 will ever have in the future then
maybe I'll agree with you, but you can't say the PSX will have more
originals than the N64 will _ever_ have unless you can either travel in
time or foresee the future.
A lot of games for _every_ platform are remakes of some kind at one point
or another. Name 10 American releases that the PSX has that is
original and perhaps a PSX exclusive.

Sony does it to make the system better, but Nintendo isn't? The PSX is
being upgraded in such a way so that if you don't own the newer PSX,
forget about some of the newers games. Then again you can't really stick
that N64DD disks inside the N64 cart slot and expect it to work.
Both companies want to make their system better. Sony wants it so that in
the near future, you can completely trash your old PSX and get a new one
so that you can play the newer games.

The guy kept claiming that the PSX is so great, but it can't handle some
of the recent arcade translations that the Saturn can handle (although
some had a RAM cart). I did not claim that the N64 is the greatest system
out there. I never felt that way.
Why not? They are after all exclusive to the market now.

No. The PSX version is exclusive in the sense that it is a sequel to the
Dracula X series where the graphics/animation and music are (of course)
more refined than that of the PC-Engine version. Ok, the SNES had an
inferior one too.

Uh huh. Tekken and Soul Edge are just Street Fighter with new names. The
only thing that the two have in common with SF is the basis: two guys ( or
girls ) beating each other to a pulp. I have yet to make Roger ( yes Roger
is my "guy" ) shoot a fireball or do a shorureppa. Then pretty much every
fighter in existence is just another version of Street Fighter. Get some
experience with these games before you start making broad generalisations

The you are missing a vital game-plot, and a vital considiration
on behalf of the game producers. Sound is there to enhance
your experience and soundtracks -as it's utalized on the PSX-
does wonders in this respect. As a small example I can just
refere to my first experience with Doom on the PSX. After
playing it networked for two years on the PC I was tired of it,
hadn't touched it for 6 months, but I completly took off on the
PSX because of the sound-experience.

Besides, the PSX won't be able at all to port the demanding
PC-games of tomorrow. The N64 will also struggle with this
though it will stay competitive for a longer period in
comparison.

They're both exclusive. I agree that Castlevania 64 will look very good,
but some of us still appreciate the qualities of a 2D scroller.

You were fine while you kept your comments to the message itself. I could
characterise you N64 owners as blind adherents to a company name, but I
won't. Let's keep the discussion to games and companies and not make
sweeping generalisations about PSX, N64, or Saturn owners.

The reason N64 owners have an easier time looking for quality titles is
because all you have to do is find Mario64 and Wave Racer. Your search
ends there. ( please read on before you flame ).

Seriously, the quality of a game is mostly subjective. What is quality to
one person may be nothing to another. I have a Pong remake on an XT I keep
in one corner of my room and I enjoy it more than some of the games out
today. Miaymoto games do stand for months of fun, but most other N64 games
out now are sad ( IMO ). My real problem with nintendo is its arrogance.
Howard Lincoln sits behind his sales figures for Cruisin' USA and uses them
to prove that it's a phenomenal game. I think it's crap. When the N64 was
launched Nintendo promised that the technology would be revolutionary (
it's good, but not revolutionary ) and that all games produced would be
revolutionary. They even went so far as to assemble a corps of developers
and call it their dream team. Most of the games haven't been
revolutionary, and more than one developer in the dream team is second rate
at best. Even if you boiled Nintendo's promise down to making no bad
games, they still haven't come through.
Before you flame me, I own both a PSX and a N64. I play them both.

The N64s polygon engine is much more complex though and
incorporates numerous real-time effects (such as anti-aliasing,
z-bufffering mip-mapping etc.) not possible om the PSX without
a big drop in performance.

The N64 is more than capable of handling FMV, storage

Using carts is close to redicules if you ask me, but Nintendo
clearly has business, not consumer, oriented veiw on this.
They wan't to make as much money as possible, which is
natural of course.
Then again, carts are much tougher than CD's so they
survive longer.

Yes. I saw in both Game and Virgin at lunchtime N64 boxes with the
knockdown price of 149.99 on them. I just might consider getting one
to sit next to my PSX now as well.

Mario Kart is disappointing. Some like it, some don't, but many diehard

If you think Soul Edge or Tekken are even close to SF2, then you know
nothing about fighting games. They have only one thing in common -- the
point is to kill the other guy in one on one combat. That's it for
similarities between SF and TK / SE. I consider Soul Edge and Tekken to be
much more alike, but nevertheless, both are unique and offer a different
fighting "experiance."

Complete and utter bullshit !
If you're talking about CD-Audio disks then these have to adhere to the
RED_BOOK standard. Which means that you can get only 78 mins of music per
CD. Yes the music can be compressed, but then it's not a CD-DA disk
anymore.

There a more PSX games out that can hold the replay value for months
(and even more comingout Bushido Blade, FFVII, Tobal 2) most of the N64
games coming are action and you can only play them once and then there
dull.
I do plan to buy and N64 as soon as soom damn games I want come out.

You can do anything in Turok on the Playstation. If fact according to
the companies makeing PSX games the upper sections of the PSX ablitys
have not evan began to be used.
Remakes of what though? Of arcade games? That is not a minus but a plus.
Are you really trying to say that out of 500 PSX games that not even 10 of
them are origional and exclusive? One thing that will really stunt the N64
is Nintendo's strong arming or the Third Parties. They might be able to do
that when they are on top, but not on the way up. This is why I predict
that the N64 will not have as many EXCLUSIVES or ORIGIONALS.
> Sony does it to make the system better, but Nintendo isn't?
But, what you missed in this was the fact that Nintendo has to do it to get
up to par with the other systems and PSX has to do it to stay ahead. Two
different things.

Actually, anti-aliasing and mip-mapping is impossible on the PSX even
with a big drop in performance. :) not sure about z-buffering, but
probably not.
We were talking about exclusives for both systems....
anyway, I never like 1st-person shooters (i.e. Doom clones) that much.
You anti-nintendoists will stop at nothing! "the only excluive games are
by Nintendo" "third party support" blah blah blah. Look at the 700 SNES
games, the best selling of those were made by (guess?)..NINTENDO. The
Nintendo games were like the only ones to be on the best seling sales
chart. So your arguments are hogwash. so when you talk about 3rd party
this and that just remember why people buy Nintendo consoles, to play
Nintendo games. Rare games are up there on the sales charts too.
The NES dominated the 8-bit software sales. The SNES DOMINATED the
16-bit software sales and the N64 DOMINATES the next generation sales.
Dont use that tired 'little amount of software", "desprate for games"
crap because the NES AND SNES had HUNDREDS of games.

Well, you still can't spell for shit, but at least you have proven that

Well, since you can't spell for shit and went off the rocker so easily
when I pointed out your faults in writing after you pointed someone else's
out that wasn't so deserving target and now have resorted to this third
grade game of name calling...well gee, I think we all have put you on the
level of Albert Einstein in our books. Oh wait, let me rephrase so that
your mind will be able to comprehend that last part... You're so fucking
intelligent that we all now hold you in the same fucking regard as that
other butt snacker Albert Einstein.
As for what the original author meant, he meant that there haven't been
any games that let you explore a vast 3D world like Mario64 that allow you
to go anywhere you want to. The closest thing was Crash, which restricted
you to a small carved path.
And the correct spelling is "precious".

Only thing I said simpleton was that the N64 is not producing "real" 3-D as
apposed to the PSX. Other than that you went totally bonkers. I feel sad
that my taste in Music is such a personally thing with you. I'm not
black... I mean, if that is your problem with me then it is off. You sound
to be a racist and that is all I can make of it. Other than that you just
put your foot in your mouth big time.

Oh... a little tad bit oh the side of Hypocracy there fucko. You are a big

being stupid and now he has to go off the wall about it. Sad buddy.

Am I now? Then WHY didn't I point out that he had added an E? You were
the ONLY ONE to bring this up. I don't do it because I tend to make
spelling errors. You do it for a lack of wit. I put quotes there to make
a point that what he was saying had never been defined. You are the only
one bitching about spelling... I wouldn't think of it. Now that you got
busted for being the bitch you are you try to cover your tracks with this
pathetic BS. Sad buddy.

Um, I won't point out every spelling error you make because I'm not a
narrow sighted bitch who is not capable of living in a multi-cultural
world, such as the Internet, where not EVERYONE has your FRIM grasp on the
english language, amoung other things you have a firm grasp on. All you
know is spelling words so that is all you bring to this? Sad buddy. At
least you could have shown us where the N64 DOES do "real" 3-D, but no, you
haven't got anything but a vendeta against me and my spelling. And you
"colorful vocabulary" put you on the next level of hypocracy. Give it up,

Guess so, at least that is all you have proven yourself to be.

Someone talking about SONY and VIDEO GAMES... remember the name of this
group? Um, no... you just have a "mis-spell" checker and run it on all the
groups hu?

Um, first off I never spelling flamed him. That is for half wit pussies
who don't have anything constructive to add. I NEVER pointed out a
spelling error of his. Man, please READ AND UNDERSTAND before you flame!
Oh, I'm the one who went off the handle? Oh yes, now I remember calling
you a jack ass out of the blue and not correcting my spelling, but rather
flaming it. You are sad. You kan spel so u mus be rele fuking smart hu?
Bullshit. I'm stupid because I flamed you for flaming me over spelling?
Well, guess that makes you stupid for thinking you needed to flame me for
my spelling. You're a fuck. And, you making me out to be a person who is
unintelegent because I cuss is backfiring on you. You cussed in both of
these posts. Man, you're just one big fucking hypocrite.

You have to be able to do real 3-D on the fly to be called a capable 3-D
machine. Maybe the term movie player will suite you better.
"
Which clearly, at least to us who have a clue, states that the graphics
power houses, like the SGI workstations, are no more than a MOVIE PLAYER.
Now, since you are a numbnutt, I will explain this, and feel free to run it
through your spell checker so you can flame the spelling. The origional
poster said that the N64 can not compare to the more CAPABLE [SGI
WORKSTATIONS] that the FMV is rendered on. All he said was that the SGIs
are more capable than the N64, care to dispute? Now in responce, the MORON
says that the SGIs are not capable of "real" 3-D on the FLY, therefor not
more capable than an N64. He then goes on to call the SGI WORKSTATIONS
movie players. Now, where you get the idea he was talking about Mario 64
and where CRASH WAS EVER INTRODUCED is beyond us, but we didn't expect more
from a spelling flaming half wit like yourself. PLEASE in the future
before you FLAME ANYONE on misconceptions as to what the subject matter is,
read and re-read the posts. You have thuroughly made an ass of yourself
and I think you should stop before you loose all face.
> And the correct spelling is "precious".
Expected no less.... um more.
I had a SNES and enjoyed it immensely. With my game doctor and my CDs I
had access to hundreds of SNES games. But I didn't but it just to play
Nintendo games. If the SNES had no third party support I would never have
gone for it.
You have no proof that tne N64 dominates sales. It's been my recent
experience that sales figures can be manipulated easily. For example, both
Nintendo and Sony claim more than 50% sales last Christmas. Who's right?
Probably both. Statistics are easily interpreted.
Other people are using the "little amount of software" and "desperate for
games" lines because the N64 has very few games. The NES and SNES may have
been great, but that doesn't mean the N64 will be. By that logic the
Virtual Boy ( the next evolution of the Nintendo handheld ) should be as
immensely popular as the Game Boy.

Yeah, well everyone ownes a PC and not just to play games, you wimp!
Look, just face the fact that Good Games on PS are
A) Another derivative Fighting game
B) Another derivative Driving Game
C) Another derivative PC port
D) Final Fantasy 7
There you go. One original game. Well not in PS owners' opinion really.
They keep saying Mario is the same stuff again. Well if that's true,
than
FF7 is the same stuff again too! At least Mario has totally different
Gameplay
to previous outings.
FF7 is the same as the SNES games, with improved graphics and that's it.

The same applies to the Genesis and they don't have a game that outsells
all 32bit games. The only explanation is that Nintendo makes QUALITY!
By the way, if the games suck, people won't buy it. (Except for arcade
games)

oooooooohhhhh.....9 beat'm ups, 9 racing games and 4 PC ports
certainly?!
By the way, 12 good games in 6 months is FAR better than 22 games in 30
months!!

Yeah and only Tekken and RR were worthwile and those games are now
worthless 'cause there are now three sequels out!

Well, actually, they DO want them, but they can't say it 'cause they
have
pride. They don't wantto admit that after 2,5 years their machine is
goin' to die
due to a monsterous amount of crap games.
Eggman 64
No No NO. He said that the PS will have more games.
But Nintendo wants to make quality! PS just makes dross.

NONONONONOOOOO....Gameplay will improve considerably due to
the writabillaty factor. You can't imagine how this is going to improve
gameplay, 'cause you don't know original gameplay you PS owner!

Hahahahaaaaa....the N64 is FAAAARRRR more powerful than the PS.
When will you finally understand that the N64 IS more powerful and that
the Playstation CANNOT produce better graphics!!!

Unbelievable...600 games that means a 1 to 150 quality-suck ratio.
SONY HAS BEATEN ATARIII!!!!!
That's funny. I have rented every game available for the N64 and
they've all left me disappointed.
As of now, there are only two games worth
owning.. Mario and Waverace.
------------------------------------------------------
Well...how about Turok, MarioKart,Blastcorps and J-league?

Ok, explain it to us. How will the mere fact that part of the storage
space of a cart is writeable improve gameplay? Won't improve the
gameplay of a fighting game. Or a driving game. Or (hmmm) a puzzle
game. Can't see how it would improve the gameplay of ANY game beyond
the ability to save the game (which the PS and Saturn both already
have)..

That's still more than the Nintendo has right now. And there is no
reason to confuse the words 'exclusive' and 'good'.

>Hahahahaaaaa....the N64 is FAAAARRRR more powerful than the PS.
>When will you finally understand that the N64 IS more powerful and that

Not actually true, mainly due to the weakly defined use of the word
'graphics'. Take an adventure game for example. The PS can have high
res fully raytraced backdrops for each scene. The N64 can't manage
that and probably won't even with the bulky drive. The N64 can do
better polygon vector graphics than the PS, but that's about the only
area where it would win. And there's much more to life than how many
shaded polygons your system can throw around. In a 2d fighting game,
the N64 could even turn out to have worse graphics than the PS or
Saturn, because they might have to chop animation frames out to fit
onto the cart - either that or produce a cart that costs the same
price as the console.

This is such crap. There is no industry on the entire planet that has 200
original ideas in such a short time. The only really new things have been
Mario64's enveloping world, Wave Race64's wave mechanics, Virtua Fighter's
bare hands combat/realistic fighting, Final Fantasy 7's animation engine,
Bushido Blade's murder/death/kills, and Warcraft/Command & Conquer's
military strategy. The rest is rehashed material. TombRaider for example
is a boring 3D Flashback in Peru. Virtua Fighter 3 is VF2 on steriods.
Turok simply took Doom to the next level. Tekken2 is REALLY old. Standard
RPGs are REALLY REALLY OLD.
There is little originality, but Nintendo is certainly winning at the
originality to games ratio.

The point you missed is that both systems are being upgraded for the
better. One would require you to leave the old system completely in order
to play the new and old games.

Point is both systems' upgrade will inadvertantly make the user neglect

Screw the polygon deal. In the current fad, I'd say, "Ok, my bad."
That was out of the topic. The point I was trying to get across the
original post insisted that the PSX has loads and loads of
exclusives/originals, but yet insisted that these "exclusives" are ports
of older games from other platforms or co-exists in other platforms.
>Then don't say it. What you are doing is setting yourself up on things you

I did not say it. What you did is keep telling me that the PSX will always
be superior (as I seemed to have to you that the N64 is better) and told
me that the PSX has a lot of games when I was saying that the original
post kept insisting that, as a fact, the PSX has a lot of original games,
when it doesn't.
