Although I'm only half way through the game, I must say, In my opinion,
that this game is highly overrated. While it is a truly unique idea, and
"cute or
funny" the overall gameplay leaves much to be desired.Furthermore, I do
like games with a challenge, but there is a point where games can get so
difficult
that they aren't even fun to play. This game definately crosses that line.
I'm glad I only rented it.

I agree with your opinion. I enjoyed the game for awhile, but I did find
it needlessly difficult in some places. It is an enjoyable game, but not
nearly as good as the reviewers said. I think they just got caught up in
their own hype.

No joke, I played it at Incredible Universe and it kept my attention for
a while, but I couldn't figure out why everyone is going bananas over
it. To tell you the truth, I enjoyed DKC much, MUCH more. I don't know
why. Maybe I was expecting too much from EWJ. It's fun, but it's not
AWESOMW. IMHO.

I just can't agree more. Just look at the # of posts/discussions on
this newsgroups on FF3, DKC, and Earthworm Jim.
Obviously, FF3 is the favorite, then DKC. I hardly see any posts on
Earthworm Jim now.

All the hype you may have been seeing about Earthworm Jim may have
been focused on the Sega Genesis version. I have played both, and own
one of these carts for the SNES (not my choice!). I can say that the
Genesis has smoother animation, better graphics (the dithering is very
smooth, not the pixelly mess in the SNES version that makes it look
like a port from the Sega) and even more voice effects! We usually
expect the opposite (ie, SNES having better graphics/sound than Sega,
but Sega having better animation) but for this game the Sega wins in
all categories except for Music and Bright Colors.

Playing the game and looking at the pixelly mess, lack of animation
cells at key parts, lack of audio cues ("Plasma!") and the slowdown
during complex scenes makes me wish for the Sega version.

What's the game like? It seems reminiscent of a british comic book
recently converted into a cartoon show, The Tick...

They've also got a game out based on it.. I'll be checking that out too.
Back to EwJ, is it worth renting? (possibly buying?)

The Tick is NOT British. The publishers are in New England, I remember as
they suffered terribly from a flood which took place up there a couple
years ago.

I think that the original poster was talking about the gameplay, not the
graphics. I also agree that the game is too hard in some/most places. It's
hard, but not really challenging, if you know what I mean.

I take it back, someone else just corrected me today, too.
