I am really looking forward to some of the racing games coming for the
N64, like Top Gear Rally, Super Mario Kart R, and Waverace. I have
seen that these games support 2 player split screen, but is there a
chance of any of them having 4 player, with the screen divided up
horizontaly and vertically? This would be cool, but I wonder if the
N64 could handle four times the number of polygons onscreen,
especially since i heard some split screen gams have to be less
detailed in just 2 player mode. Anyone know if games like this are
being planned, or coming out?

Right now there are five 4-way split screen games I know of. Mario Kart
R, Kirby's Air Ride, Doom 64 (deathmatch), Hexen 64 (deathmatch), and
Blade and Barrel (Ultra Combat in the US).

Also, most of the sports games will allow four players.

Wow, Doom and Hexen'll split my 13" screen four ways? How the heck am I gonna
be able to tell what's going on?

MarioKart R will have a 4 player split screen mode. Don't know about
the textures. Reportedly, DOOM will also have a 4 player SS, but with
less detailed textures than the 1 or 2 player mode.

Jeff, have a look on the Next Generation Online page and you'll see a
screenshot from Mariokart R that'll make your head spin: 4 player
splitscreen simultaneous play. Now I haven't seen a qt clip yet of this
so I don't know if speed or quality is compromised in this mode,
but it looks damn exciting.

I dunno about racing games but Hexen64 and Doom64 will support a 4
player mode.

How? 4 players on the split-screen? What would be the point?

Bleh.. I mean it's nice that the N64 has the power to do this, but what about
doom64 or hexen64? I don't think it would be fun playing a split screen
deathmatch against 3 others... Won't N64 have the option to play over the
modem??

Yeah... as neat as it is, I dont know how practical a 4-player
splitcreen would be. Even playing two-player splitscreen can be tough
at times. But about the N64 modem - Ive heard something about this -
I hope it wasnt just a rumor. To be able to play the guy down the
street in an N64 game would definetly be pretty damn cool.

I think the Idea is to have internet connectivity for the n64...
I hope they don't forget about home-home though.

I've never played modem-modem games on any console, is there any slowdown in
play or lag?

In article <Dy9F9...@rci.ripco.com>, cz...@ripco.com says...
Nope, not really, not any that I have noticed 1-on-1, modem to modem games.
And it would be pretty cheap too (Hexen,doom,duke3d,etc only required 9600
speed modems to play modem games.) New 28.8's are aound $95 (at digital
concepts homepage) 14.4's are like $40 so I think the big N could get 9600
modems for around $15 a piece (buy in quantity) and sell it for around $50
AND ALLOW IT TO RUN 1-ON-1 GAMES TOO... I hate the idea of buying something,
KNOWING that I will have to pay again, and again, and again if I want to use
it (Xband)(There is no use paying if I can just dial into my cousin cross
town and play against him) although it should be an option, if you ever want
to have 3-8 player games (you haven't lived till' you've played duke numkem
3d against 7 other people at once)

How could everyone be forgetting NBA HANGTIME? This game will be the
best out of all the multi-player games! It will have arcade graphics and
sound! It will be ten times better on the N64 then Playstation or
Saturn! N64 reigns supreme! P.S. I'm not crazy, just psyched.

SInce you can't play multiple player Doom or Hexen using one N64 what good
are the extra ports?
If I am wrong in my supposition then does Doom64 or Hexen64 use split screen
or something else to accomodate multi player. I own a N64 and would love to
play multi player Quake on it. It should blow away the PC version.

Thanks,

Jason

Knowing Hexen for the PC you can't get much worse in the realm of
graphics. The thing is so pixelated that you can count them, and the
"dark and scary" environment was just created to cover up the lack in
graphics. But the gameplay is awesome and on the N64 the graphical
effects could be rectified.
