My SNES controllers D-Pad is sticking, and sometimes is so bad that it
hardly responds to "forceful" pushing of the pad. I believe that
something sugary was spilled on it some time ago, and I have never
thought to ask this question before now: What suggestions do you have for
fixing it?

Thanks!

I've had this happen to something else. My advice is just play with it a while,
it may wear off... if not... you still have a control. (Which is more than you
have if you take it apart and mess it up...)

The irony is that Bill Gates claims to be making a stable operating system and Linus Torvalds claims to be trying to take over the world.

Any suggestions are appreciated, and disposed of ;)

Opening up a SNES pad really isn't that risky as long as you keep track of
the parts. After that, it's probably just a matter of running the rubber
parts under some warm soap and water... Just let the things dry, and the
pad should work.

There are two reasons for a sticky D-pad: dirty pad, or worn-out
rubber. The SNES pad is not that complex a device, and it is not hard
to open up and clean a dirty pad as Joe suggests. OTOH, if the rubber
is worn out, you'll need to find a replacement.

I finally fixed the pad, and I just want to say thanks for the help guys!

I opened up the controller, and cleaned underneath the D-Pad, right on
the board inside, and when I ran a Q-Tip over the board, the Q-tip turned
black. Somehow, the controller got dirty underneath, all the way to the
circuit board inside, and the pad was not making the proper electrical
connection.

Thanks again!

Cmdr_Joe.
