Ok first off, im a gamer. I own the n64, gameboy, Playstation, Saturn,
and a p2 333 mmx pc with dual voodoo cards in sli mode.... So im not
biased!

To the review!

Warioland 2

After seeing this at the E3 show last June, I thought it would never
come out. Nintendo is famous for not releasing Gameboy games shown at
thier trade events, as sometimes they just fill space with japanese
games. I was pleasently suprised then to see the release of this game
announced on thier website a month or so ago!

I picked it up at Best Buy on 3/5/98 for $28.99. The first thing I
noticed was the terrible packaging. The front had a generic picture of
Wario and the back had only a few lines of text. Reading the
insructions was also a disapointment, as they were very vauge.

Gameplay:

Warning... Wario is invincable, he cannont die. There is not pit too
deep, no monster so difficult, really, no anything that can kill him!
That would normally be terrible because the game would be too easy...
Well, the game isn't easy, and Wario being invinable opens up some
interesting things....

If a weight hits him he becomes flat wario. If a badguy throws food at
him he becomes fat wario. If he gets burned he become on-fire wario....
etc, etc... These transformations let you access hidden areas or pass
obsticles.

Each level features tons of puzzles and even more hidden areas. In each
level you have to accomplish some task such as turning off a faucet or
exiting a maze. Each level also contains so other objectives... Find a
hidden treasure and also find a picture piece. The treasure is found by
enetering a hidden door and playing a mini game based on concentration.
This game is hard and borders on frustrating. The picture piece is found
when leaving the level you play another mini game where you have to
guess a number (very easy). What the treasure or picture pieces are for
is anyone's guess.

There are atleast 50 levels and in about 3 hours of playtime i've
accessed about 15 of them. The bosses are stacked every 5 levels or so
and are easy to kill but frustrating as well. You would think, how hard
is it to kill a boss if you are invinceable right? Well, if the boss
hits you, you are sent (or pushed) to an earlier area of the level, and
have to go back to the boss again and start all over... ugh.

The game has an automatic save after every level, and you can flash save
at anytime by hitting select. When you turn the game back on you start
from the exact place you flash saved, anywhere in the level... neat!

The graphics are very good, and are most simular to Wario's virtual boy
outing. The sound is pretty weak, with mostly reworked Wario and Mario
themes.

The pother interesting thing in the game is that Wario seems to have
changed into a good guy... He isn't shown to be bad at all. He is
actually chasing the bad guys. He is just your average once-evil not
good treasure hunter... huh?

Overall

Gameplay 9/10

Easily one of the most interesting gameboy games... So may diffrent
forms lend an almost Kirby air to it.

Graphics 9/10

Its game boy... But the graphics are surpisingly good

Sound 2/10

Bad remixed tunes boring bgm

Overall 9/10

Buy iy now! One of the best gameboy games on the system. Hopefully I
wont breeze through it as easily as I have other games. Supposedly the
is some replayability as there are "diffrent paths" you can take to the
end although nothing that I have noticed....

Enjoy!

Cheers
