Like everyone else who loves the Metroid series of games, I've eagerly
followed what bit of news on the Cube version, thats out there.

The first big news of the game going FPS had me weary, but not enough
to freak out just yet. Even if the game was fully First Person, the
feel of a Metroid in 3D could be accomplished with the right
execution, and gameplay elements. But like other's I am interested in
seeing how the title comes together.

I'm liking the latest news, though I know some have scoffed at the new
First Person Adventure label. But if you read the entire news item,
what interests me is the talk of the 3rd person perspective being
available for certain actions. And that this may wind up being an
automatic transition that the game does for you, when the need
arrives.

Of course you have to be privy to the game engine that they create to
see just how effective this is gonna be, but I can see how something
along these lines could work really well in getting that Metroid 3D
feel.

It really almost felt, with this latest news item at IGN, that someone
was sitting back, waiting to see how the net community reacted to the
first news item on the game going FPS. And that they quickly released
this latest bit of info on the game being a FPA, to appease some who
were saying that this would kill the Metroid lineage.

Anyway, I'm not gonna knock it, till I play it. I'll be totally
surprised if they get this game to market at launch, like N seems to
want them to.

If the game comes together, by all means get it out for launch. But
gettting the game right is more important. I think N knows this.

I'm excited to see how the game turns out...It was relieving to read
on IGN that the shift to the first person focus occurred before
Nintendo even offered Retro the Metroid license and it wasn't forced
upon them as the earlier story had made it out. On top of that it was
Shigeru Miyamoto himself who helped convince them to go with the first
person perspective...if he thinks it's a good idea I'm not gonna argue
with him.

I agree that seeing the game at the US launch is very unlikely. What
IS GC gonna launch with? The damn thing is coming out in Japan in just
over 4 months and we haven't seen anything but demos. Obviously Super
Mario 128(please God don't let it be called that or Super Mario Cube
or any other typical Nintendo cop out name) is almost a necessity.
Nintendo needs to have a kick ass first party line up if they expect
people to buy the system.

They hype machine must be in the shop...

Don't worry, in about two and a half months, the only thing you'll see on
the net is what great games the GC will have, because there will most likely
be lots of them (even in playable form) at E3.

Ehh, i dunno. I'll have to see the game first hand ito get even the least
bit excited anymore. I was literally jumping when i heard that a new Metroid
game was coming but...after i found out it would be in first person, any joy
left in me quickly left. I don't think i could possibly *hate* first person
shooters anymore than i already do. I mean, i can't imagine anything more
mind numbing than another Doom spinoff. It just saddens me to think that
they could do this to such a wonderful title.

I do hope i'm wrong about the game and it somehow "works" when it's
finished.
