Here's a list of the most powerful weapons for each character, and a brief description of how to get it/what it does.

ALL of them are obtained by completing 5 optional tasks, under the sub-section "The Fated Hour". Some are a combination of the following:

1. Get Rainbow Shell from Giant's claw in 600 AD
2. Get Sun Stone - 2 step process
a. Fight Son of Sun in 2300 AD to get the MoonStone
b. Place it in 65M BC... get it back in 1000 (remember to give jerky to the women) place it again in 1000 AD and get it back in 2300 AD (Sun Keep)
3. Put Cyrus's spirit at rest in the Northern Ruins of 600 AD
4. Discover the fake chancellor and rescue the King in 1000 AD
(must complete task 1 beforehand)
5. Defeat the Mother in 2300 AD

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Cronos - Rainbow
Tasks: 1,2,4
Damage: 220 Effects: 75% Critical

Melchior forges this after task 4 if you have both the Rainbow Shell AND the Sun Stone (tasks 1,2). Incredibly powerful... esp. if Cronos
is equipped with the Frenzy Band (75% Counter)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Marle - Siren
Tasks: 3
Damage: 160 Effects: Random stop

Found in a sealed treasure box in Northern Ruins (task 3). Good against enemies with weak status defense

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lucca - WonderShot
Tasks: 2
Damage: 250 Effects: Random damage

The second you obtain the SunStone Lucca returns home and makes this weapon. Damages vary from 200-1000 (non-critical). Additionally, two accessories raise the damage range:

SunSpecs Tasks: 2 (Taban makes it for you along with weapon)
PrismSpecs Tasks: 1,2,4 (Melchior forges it along with Rainbow)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Frog
Tasks: 2
Upgraded Masamune Damage: 200 Effects: 2x damage against magic users

After Frog talks to Cyrus in Northern Ruins (task 3), Masamune "reveals its true power". Very effective with the Hero Medal.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Robo - TerraArm, CrisisArm
Tasks: 5

TerraArm
Damage: 150 Effects: None

CrisisArm
Damage: 1 Effects: Damage changes below 10HP

Both of these are obtained after defeating Mother in 2300 AD (task 5). The TerraArm is just another weapon... the CrisisArm however becomes incredibly powerful is Robo has less than 10HP. I have yet to see this, but considering at around level 40 Robo has 800HP... it's gotta be very powerful.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ayla only has fists. Magus I'm unsure... right now the best weapon for him that I've found is the StarScythe. He is a magic caster anyways...

How and when do you get Magus?
Thanks

after the sky castle sinks, go to the north cape. talk to magus, but
don't fight him. when you are leaving, he will join you.

Regarding Magus: In Ozzie's Castle, in the room with the treasure box
that Oz is dropping the blade on, there is a secret room in the SE
corner. Inside are three chests with the DoomSickle, GloomRobe, and
GloomHelm. These are Magus' best items; sorry I don't have descriptions
handy.
