If the sales continue as they have been for Nintendo and their little
white Wii, gamers'll be looking at the top-dog for overall console
says–best selling console ever. This would push Sony's PlayStation 2
to the second spot of awesome console victories over the last seven
generations of gaming hardware.
Sony has been able to utilize the PS2 and its profitability to glide
through the initial PS3 sales slump and get the momentum growing for
their current generation console.
Yet, some folks are comparing the PlayStation 3 to the GameCube in
terms of sales performance.

Did you actually read the article or are you just pulling a Blig and
using only what can support your fanboyism?

The author is actually saying how that comparison is NOT valid, which
should have been obvious to anybody when they read that the "PS3 is
like the GameCube in sales" comment was made only about U.S. numbers.
The Playstation 3 sold much better than the GameCube did in Europe.

correct me if i'm wrong, but nintendo made more profit from the gamecube
than sony made from the ps2.
sure the ps2 was in more homes but nintendo made the most money.

That's probably just from the hardware end since Nintendo aren't known
for selling hardware at a loss. No doubt Sony made a lot more than
Nintendo on the software markup.

How do you figure?
The Playstation 2 reached a state of profitability on the hardware
less than 2 years after the system launched. While the Nintendo
GameCube might have had hardware profitability from the get go (as
Nintendo always does), total lifetime sales of the system were less
than 1/6 the total lifetime sales of the Playstation 2 (which is STILL
selling even now).
Sony made a lot more money on the games as well considering how damn
many of them sold.

That's what they get for not making all PS3 backwards compatible with PS2
games. If they had done that then Sony would have sold far more PS3
machines.
I have a PS3 and it has been relegated to a BD player mostly because there
are just not enough games for it that interest me. I do 99% of my gaming on
the PC still. I won't be buying that stupid noob kids toy the Wii either.
All their games are for people with IQs below 70 or toddlers.

While I do like the Wii over the PS3 and X3, I hold fanboyism in any
form in disdain. These platform wars have been going on since the first
generation of consoles, and in the final tally, the real winners are the
ones who have fun with the machines they own.

All it was meant to indicate was that while the U.S. sales numbers for
the Playstation 3 have not been stellar in much the same way the U.S.
sales numbers for the GameCube were not stellar, the Playstation 3
*did* sell significantly better in Europe than the GameCube did so the
idea that the Playstation 3 is at all similar to the GameCube as far
as sales power is laughable at best.

Really? I *know* you include me in that group and I never once
predicted doom and gloom for the GameCube. In fact, I enjoyed the
games on that system very much and was hoping that it would be a rise
back to the top for Nintendo. I guess I was just one generation too
early.

Really? I was quite confident prior to the beginning of this
generation that the Xbox 360 would do better than the Playstation 3
this time around. I was also quite confident that the Nintendo Wii
would trounce both systems because of their strategy.
But if you want to get into people who have a 100% track record of
being completely wrong about anything to do with console video games,
you should look back at pretty much every post you've ever contributed
since the beginning of this generation...
