So I've been trying out some PC-98 Touhou, and went with the fifth game
as Mima-sama seems to like it very much in <ueluef$m6a4$1...@dont-email.me> lol

When I get to phase 2 of the boss fight in stage 4, whether I get Mai or
Yuki, the game's graphics in the right side glitches a bit. It doesn't
seem to affect the gameplay, but it is annoying. Anyone knows why this
happens and how to fix it? Or is it really like this?

I've heard of this issue before, but I'd like to ask first, is it
English-patched? And where did you download the hard disk image?

It is a pre-patched image from moriyashrine.org

I also wonder if it's due to the emulator I use. I'm on Neko Project II

Yep, knew it. Moriya Shrine's TH05 disk image is known to be corrupted.
You should use the original unpatched version and patch it yourself.
It's a good idea anyway for PC-98 games because you never exactly know
what sort of changes one might be doing with the hdi. Moriya Shrine is
pretty trustworthy, but it can screw up in the rare cases, like this one.

Emulator shouldn't be a factor.

Ok, I just tried an unpatched image, can confirm I no longer see the
glitch. Thanks!

About patching the image, how would one do that?

I suggest using DOSBox-X for modifying the hard disk image. It's way
easier because you can mount folders there as well (unlike in Neko
Project II).

First make sure the unpatched game's version is at 1.01.

Download the English patch here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/yxcg7mvg1lj1i6g/TouhouProjectPC-98-CompleteEnglishPatchPack100.rar

Then copy over the files from the Patch files/th05 directory. Overwrite
the old executables and archive files in your Touhou 5 installation.

You should be able to see "English patch v1.00" in the title screen.
