First, let me state that I do not know Nolan Bushnell or Lori personally.
I have nothing to do with CGE either. However, I attended last year's
World of Atari and I am acquainted with most of the cast of characters
involved.

Our story so far: Nolan was scheduled to be a guest at this year's CGE.
Then he cancelled for reasons which have not been made entirely clear but
may have something to do with: 1.) not putting everything in writing, 2.)
attempts by Rich T. to turn him into a photo op (even though that related
to last year's WofA not CGE), and 3.) a busy schedule involving other
commitments in town (even though his plane fare was to be paid for by CGE).
His side of the story is supposed to come out, but when? Then there's
Curt V., who now works for Nolan, and who may or may not be in trouble for
cancelling and forging newsgroup posts. He might have done this without
malice, but then again he might have done this because he was angry about
the booth arrangements. The CGE organizers haven't responded, as they are
busy organizing the show we are all waiting to attend. Now everyone and
their mother (including me) is replying to the ongoing thread claiming: 1.)
to have witnessed promises made, 2.) to know the real story, or 3.) to have
found evidence of some conspiracy. All we need is an evil twin and a
murder and someone could sell the story to a soap opera.

Now my two cents:

The CGE guys are not professional organizers. They are just fans like the
rest of us. They should be rewarded for doing what they have done-- just
think of the people who are attending CGE! Events like this one just don't
happen to come together automatically. At the very least, they should be
cut a little slack as far as dotting the "i's" and crossing the "t's" are
concerned.

I worked as a consultant to a State Senator. Every last minute of his day
was planned well in advance, but you know what? If he wanted to attend an
unscheduled event, or didn't want to go to a certain meeting, he would make
that decision himself. Even the President is able to take detours to
McDonald's and jog in the park despite the protests of his "handlers."
Perhaps Nolan takes his job more seriously than Clinton, but if he thinks
it is important enough to attend CGE he will do so. If not, he just
doesn't care.

While I'd like to meet the man, I'm going to have a good time regardless.
I no longer care who said what, or who did what to whom.

See you there!
