I everyone just a quick question to the NES-heads:
Found a cart this weekend with no label and someone has written in pen
"Mario", boring right? but... the area where NES carts are indented
(Grooved) there was a unit attached that had four switches "1,2,3,4 ON
and i think "MC". The switch unit is small and the cart is really
heavy. When i played the game i tried a variety of swithch positions
with no noticable changes. The game title is "Nintendo Championships
1990", and has mario: you have to collect 50 coins, rad racer: where you
have to finish the course, and tetris: where you have to get 10000
points. Then all your scores for each game are multiplied by a certain
factor and a total combined score is given.

Now my question is: what do the four switches do and how rare is this
game?
Any ideas?

Also i would like to add picked up dizzy the adventurer and big nose
freaks out, gunsmoke, and archon <-- love these last two games!!!

Cheers Scott

This is just a wild guess, but it might be close. I've picked up old (around
1989-91) issues of Nintendo Power in various thrift stores, and more than once,
Nintendo World Championships or something like that have been mentioned. The
cart you're referring to may have been one of the carts used in the
championship.
Ok, I just found the March/April 1990 issue of Nintendo Power. It says that a
"triathalon" Game Pak will be used in the NWC (I was right, it was called
Nintendo World Championship) contests. The specially designed Game Pak runs for
about seven minutes and contains segments of three Nintendo games: Super Mario
Bros., Rad Racer and Tetris.
The game would probably be quite rare, considering that the cartridge was only
used during a contest. To my knowledge, that game was not released to the
public. Only eleven cities are mentioned in the list of tour stops, but there
was probably more than one copy of the game at each one. Still, it sounds very
rare.
I have no idea about the switches, though.
