First, who comprises the "Save the Jag Foundation" or whatever? Second,
what ever convinced you that anyone on the Atari party line would even
think twice about an intelligent and well-motivated idea? As history
proves, they are notorius for ignoring such things...

Ok, well, he was kind of curt about it, but I think he is right. We all
would like to see the Jag come out looking good, maybe sort of have a
revolution of people saying, "hey man, I bought a Jag... no, it's really
cool! you should get one! They are only about $50!" The Jag -does- have
some very exciting titles, but if I have my eye on games for my PSX or
N64, I'm not going to have time for pokey old Jag games. I know there are
people out there who might, but "Joe Public" does not. So, if you count
Joe Public out, how do you advertise? How do you promote the Jag? I think
someone on the newsgroups mentioned a scheme along these lines, which is
still my favorite...

Upon the release of the amazing, NETWORKED "BattleSphere", Atari should
distribute Jaguar Units, BattleShpere Carts, networking hardware, and some
promotional banners/signs/shirts/coffee mugs/halloween candy/etc.
(wouldn't Atari Logo Gummi Candy be rad? I bet in 1983 such a thing
actually existed.) to Video Arcades throughout the country. The Arcades
could set up the Jag system and have people interested in playing sign up
for free and play. In theory, the users would be so amazed that a $50-100
system was so much fun that they would seek out one of their own. This
demo would not have to prove that the Jaguar is best, it would have to
prove that it is FUN and offers options not available to users of the
other game systems, including a -very-low- price.

Of course, if BattleShpere is crap, then in theory they will come on the
USENET and cross-post even more SPAM about the PSX and the sexual
orientation of it's users.

Anyhaze, it might be better to analyze webm...@atari.com (John Skrutch?)
reaction if we could read your original letter to him...

-Who ever said that I'm the Pie Man Rainiac?
-BOINK! Now if only I could find that rotten light switch!
