WHAT?!?!
What happened to Wolf3d?
Well, I'd say my days of pro-jag are officially over.

(i.e. Atari: piss-off!)
When will you cut this "I didn't get what I want right bloody now and for free -
so "my days of pro-jag are officially over" bullshit? Hell, you don't even
KNOW if Wolf3D is coming out in July or not - you just knee jerk to some guy's
post.
Where do you Atari whiners get the idea that any of us gives a shit whether
your "days of pro=jag are over" or not? If they are over, shut up and go home.
Quit wasting everyone's time.
Man I can't count the number of times this has happened, but here are a few:
I hate Atari, the Jaguar will fail and the world will generally come to an end
because:
AvP isn't comlynxed.
Checkered flag doesn't have banks.
Jagdoom is 160x180.
Tempest 2K didn't come out in January.
AvP isn't out yet.
Checkered Flag isn't out yet.
Tiny Toons isn't out yet.
Club Drive isn't out yet.
Trevor Mcfur doesn't have great playability.
T2K occasionally loses a key.
Cybermorph wasn't texturemapped.
Checkered flag isn't texturemapped.
My ass isn't testuremapped.
Raiden bombs after some insane sequence of events that no one has ever
duplicated.
MKII isn't coming out for the Jag.
Atari's stock dropped.
Id didn't get comlynx cables from Atari.
The developer list isn't in the tens of thousands.
Tempest 2000 wasn't anti-aliased.
The framerate in Cybermorph slows down.
My Jag hisses.
I got a red screen.
Bob Brodie resigned.
Julie Wade? resigned.
Nixon resigned.
Id said the risc processors couldn't execute code outside of their caches.
There aren't enough jags in stores.
There aren't enough games.
There aren't enough whining rumour mongers on the net.
Christ, most of these rumours get started right here - people get their hopes
up and when it proves to be false (ie. AvP comlynx) we get the barrage of
"That's it - Atari lost a customer" comments. Tell someone who cares. If you
spend the rest of your lives righting "Die Tramiels" in blood on your bedroom
wall, I still couldn't be bothered to give a shit.
Take this insane whining elsewhere. Please.

Not quite. Wolf 3-D has been in limited production for a while now,
and the first (again, limited) batches should start showing up at
Blockbuster Video in the next two weeks.
This has been confirmed, BTW.

Yeah, but the FOR SALE copies won't be showing up until early
August, which is what people are a bit miffed about. Also,
only a few Jaguar owners have BV stores in their area that
carry Jaguar stuff!

You foolish little squirt!
I've had a Jag since November of '93; where does the "right now" come into this
picture you pee-brain, little, shithead? And how 'bout the "free" comment.
What color is the sky in your world?
I was a jag advocate but Atari cannot deliver.
Don't worry, eventually you'll figure it out.

If this Jag truly does bomb, then I hope it takes down the entire corp.
Get them off the block because they have nothing but a history of
failures, and its not wort our worry. Maybe I should have bought a
3DZero after all. At least I'd be using the thing rather than merely
talking about maybe playing a cart or two in the next year.
I decided to wait for the SCES, and i did, i am disappointed with my
purchase now. The only thing that will save my regrets is if they release
AvP. I loved playing it and as long as that game comes out i have
something to show for the system, but other than that, the future doesn't
look so bright. I've gone back to looking forward to my snes more with
SSF2, MK2, and Donkey Kong Country

Calm down. Wolf 3-D is definitely on the way. It could be that the
person he talked to didn't know about the expedited release, which is
quite unusual. That release been confirmed and will start showing
up in the next two weeks. The *regular* production run, which
started about a week and a half ago, probably wouldn't show up until
the first week of August, about two or three weeks after the
expedited release. This is exactly as was reported before.
Dimitri
Shit. Nixon resigned?
I still think the Jag has a shot. If they adopt an "all or nothing"
strategy (which they seem to be doing by ignoring the Lynx and their
computer line, and by spending all their cash on marketing), they
can sell a number of units this fall. Don't forget that Doom and
Alien vs. Predator could both be system sellers, despite the knocks
they've taken on the Usenet. One vidgame mag even has AvP as its
cover story (well, along with the AvP arcade game).
This "summer slump" is bad, but summer really ain't an important
time for the vidgame industry. The fall/X-mas shopping season will
make or break the Jag and 3DO.

Trouble and headache? I can see it now:
My JAG, aaaarrggh! I NEED a GAME!!! Someone! Pleeese!!
AUUUGH! My brain is going to BURST without a VIDEO GAME!!!
Aaron's advice for Jaguar-induced migranes:
1. Stop believing press releases of future products by ANY hi-tech company.
2. Stop calling retailers every week to see if a game has arrived.
3. Take more walks outside while it's warm.
4. When the weather cools off, call the store to see how many games are
in.
:)
(I know how you feel, but there really isn't much we can do about Jag
games besides writing them ourselves.)

Yes, I can understand the frustration too - I've got a Jag and all 5 games
that are available too. However, what is worse is the frustration caused by
all the messages posted by people venting their frustration. Why vent it here?
What did we do to deserve it? It is old, boring news.

I'd have to say that's almost exaclty how I feel at this moment in time.
That is a very acurate description!

No offense here Eric, but with an attitude like that, it looks fair to
middlin that you'll be palin' around with Watters, Fritz, and the rest
of the peanut gallery in no time. The Psychbooks say, 'if it pisses you
off THAT bad, it must be true.'

That's not precisely true. There will be some for sale copies out of
the limited batch. (I know this for a fact, and will let you know
how I know in about a week and a half. :>)

The original announcement from Atari sounded as though
they would be RENTAL-ONLY copies, but yeah, I've since
found out that Electronics Boutique is expecting some
of them to send some to a select 25 of their stores (I
asked at my local EB and they said they were expecting
to be one of the stores to get them since they sold
the most TEMPEST 2000 cartridges of all EB stores).
Maybe Atari should include a disclaimer on the box:
"Warning, ownership of the Atari Jaguar has been shown to promote
tension headaches in game loving individuals."
:)
I'm still waiting to find out why I shouldn't wish Atari had soldered
the Tempest 2K roms on the board and saved me $60. Thank goodness I
own a 3d0 too so there's something to play this summer. I wish they'd
get with the program. Limited releases of Wofl3D and promises for some
football game -- when I hate sports titles (after all, if I wanted to
play football, I'd go out and play footbal) --don't cut it. I didn't
buy the Jaguar as a dust collector. It's a good thing my cleaning
service dusts it because that dust isn't leaving naturally.
I broke my cardinal rule when I bought the Jag. The rule is: "Don't
buy a console unless there are enough games out that you would be
pleased with the purchase even if the company folded tomorrow." Ah
well. Maybe next month.
Anyway,
-Chris
The lesson to be learned here is: don't buy into hype. I bought
my Jaguar so I could play Tempest 2000. (I didn't even know
Cybermorph was bundled with the unit until it fell out of the
box.) If there isn't another game ever produced for the Jag, I'd
still think my $300 was well spent. I couldn't have found an old
Tempest coin-op for less than this. And the Jag and a color TV
will give me far fewer maintenance worries and take up less space
in my house.

I think you're being too harsh. Consider: Apple had a chance to
corner the PC market a couple of times in the last 15 years, but
they pissed away the opportunity both times. Boo hoo. They've
also produced a few real bombs over the years. (Remember the Mac
Portable, the Lisa, the Apple III?) Still, Apple kept plugging
away and the company is currently making good computers that are
making lots of people happy and more productive. And now the
company is considered a success and the flops have been (mostly)
forgotten.
Sure, Atari has had failures, but there were successes too. I,
for one, am happy that they are still trying to innovate. For
the most part I've been uninterested in the home videogame market
until now.
Be glad that just bought a Jag, and didn't buy Atari Corp. stock
on the way down when it was at $12, then $8, and then $5 a share
as some folks did. More than you they have the right
(privilege? :->) to rail and scream and gryte their frustration to
the stars. But they bought into hype, too, and their investment
dollars will live or die by their decision.
: Sure, Atari has had failures, but there were successes too. I,

Overall I am very unhappy with the Tramiels. They know how to cheat
death, I'll give 'em that much. The Jag is really the first time they've
shown they have a brain in their heads. But although management changes,
an Atari fan has to be an Atari fan (as long as there is something cool
to root for. I never liked the STs). Remember, there is an Atari in
2017 in Blade Runner so that may just come true.
I was doubtful when the Falcon was bombing. I thought that was it for
Atari and that their R&D was not complete on the Jag. I was surprised to
say the least!
