Is it possible to upgrade the BC-25's (bill changers) to accept newer
U.S. $5? Namco has many for sale for cheap but it would be worthless
to me if I can't make change for a new $5..

If I can upgrade, do I jsut flip out a couple of chips or do I replace
the entire board? Any Ideas? TIA

the game, man.

Yes, there is an upgrade kit available from Rowe,
it is rather expensive, though ( I think I paid over $450)

It requires the chip you spoke of, and a new Mars Dollar
Bill Acceptor and stacker unit.

I would be willing to sell one of my (unused, but brand new)
upgrades for a discount under what I paid.

I talked to Rowe inc. and they said that the "upgrade" is no longer
possible... I can get the Mars Bill Accepter for less than $200...
but what is the proceedure for upgrade? What EXACTLY do I need to
have and to do?

Correction: The upgrade is no longer available from Rowe... Instead
they want you to buy the BC-3500

Rowe makes an upgrade/retrofit kit and so does several other 3rd party
vendors (as vending machine kits).

All these kits come with a new bill acceptor, harness, chips, etc. In
my opinion, the kits are kind of pricey, but worth it.

Well, it comes with instructions and I had someone else do the work
so I can not give you the "exact" procedure, my distrubitor did for me.
It comes with some hardware, wiring, dba and chip (to go into your
computer to recognize the new $5 bill).

I have bought some used BC 3500's for under $1000 when they
occasionally pop up, but I would not like to pay the retail price the
distributors are asking (somewhere north of $3-grand).

I am sure the trade magazines (vending times, etc) have advertisers
that sell the upgrades... too many BC 25's out there, sure cheaper
than buying new change machine.

I recently read that the FED is considering changing the disigns of
the 5-100 bills AGAIN !, pain in the @SS.

That is why Namco sell them so cheap.I looked into update my old Rowe
a few years ago but I didn't.
Captinal vending ,American Vending sell the after markert Mars update
kit for about $500 ,the kit include an inerface board, mars bill
acceper and monting plate.Rowe does not suppor the aftermarket
kit.They sold a RBA7 kit before,most people like the Mars kit.Rowe's
full update kit will cost you $1500,you relace most everything in the
changer but the hoppers.

You have the BC 35 (stacks bills separately) and uses the BC-
25 style dba.

The BC 3500 uses the newer model dba, takes 1's 2's 5's 10's
and 20's (your choice of 4 out of the 5) and is cheaply & easily
upgradeable to the new currency.
