Hello... I need some help, here... Any advice, additions, comments,
etc. would be great.

Arcade Human Interface Feedback List *ROUGH DRAFT*
--------------------------------------

I.) Purpose
An attempt to make a list - as complete as possible - of all the arcade
games that used some kind of feedback in their design (this includes
moving/motorized cabinets) and the different kinds of feedback that
they used. The outcome of this will be a hardware abstraction layer
for the MAME source code to implement force-feedback and vibration
effects in multiple OS's, and eventually cabinet/seat
rotation/motorization and other forces in the games that supported them.
"The List" represents all possible combinations of hardware used in
cabinets of arcade games for games that had these effects.

II.) Comments

The original behaviour of a steering wheel is irrelevant for an
emulator programmer, all that matters is analyzing how the car reacts
to changes in the input adresses, and then writing a small procedure
which handles the arcade-to-PC analog behaviour conversion. The only
case when this conversion cannot be done is when the cabinet that is
being attempted to be emulated uses a spinner. The only information an
emulator can give is if that particular cabinet used a spinner or not.
It will not tell you if the wheel had a spring (self-centering), and it
will not tell you if the wheel has force-feedback (the "motor cpu ok"
message is not clear, it could be referring to the cockpit). The
difference between OutRun and Daytona USA is probably in the motor cpu
code, but the motor could even be the same in both games.

To attempt to make a complete database of these games is very hard, for
multiple reasons:
1.) You can have all these different behaviours in the same game.
2.) The information may not be available to the public.
3.) The code of the game may not even give you the information, so
emulators may not be of much help.
4.) There may be variants of the game that have already disappeared
from the world.
5.) Some, but not all, the information may be available.
6.) You may receive lots of contradicting information.

For example, Top Speed had 4 different cabinets, and the cabinet type
was selectable via dipswitches A1 and A2.

A2A1 - 00 (Sit-Down with good wheel)
Motor: No
Pedals Type: Analog
Wheel Type: Normal

A2A1 - 01 (Sit-Down with bad wheel)
Motor: No
Pedals Type: Analog
Wheel Type: Spinner

A2A1 - 10 (Upright)
Motor: No
Pedals Type: Digital
Wheel Type: Spinner

A2A1 - 11 - (Deluxe Motorized Sit-Down)
Motor: Yes
Pedals Type: Analog
Wheel Type: Normal
