Rush are serious game players and vid freaks. A friend of mine and I were
lucky enough to have a long conversation after a show - they hauled a
"Space Duel" and "Tempest" with them on the Moving Pictures tour, and they
all have vid collections in their homes.

The movie, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, has some pretty good shots of a
lot of the early '80's videos. You get to see a couple of shots of actual
game playing.
My all time favorite has to be the movie Tron. Has anybody, besides
myself, ever thought that it would have been cool if they actually put out
the game "Space Paranoids". That was the game that Flynn(main character)
was playing in his arcade. If you remember, it had a cotroller just like
the recognizers. Anyone who knows the movie Tron will know what I am
talking about.

Ummm...almost...
I think that ranks up there with "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy."

"And the space he invades
He gets by on you."
according to the lyric sheet in my CD.
Unless of course you were joking.

Check this out...
In "The Color of Money" (with Tom Cruise), a Tron machine is shown
in the beginning of the movie at the pool hall/bar. There's another
machine next to it that I couldn't identify. It was a single player
driving machine, and on the left side of the marquee was a head-on
view of a red car on a ribbon of road. Tom Cruise was actually
playing this one.

I saw a DEATH WISH movie with plent of classic video games being
destroyed and blown up (how sick). Also can't all the classic games in
the movie "NIGHTMARES; The Bishop of Battle" .. I think that movie
REALLY brings me back (especially Emilio Estevez playing one of my
classic faves: PLEAIDES)

I saw a Star Castle and a couple I couldn't Identify (including a pin) in
a video on MTV. It really caught me by surprise. I'm pretty sure it was
an "LL Cool-J" video from around 1985 and it had to do with this "video
game" that featured LL picking up chicks. It was really cheezy (this
so-called game). Maybe someone can remember the details?

I just remembered that Terminator 2 - the most awesome movie of all
time had a rather lengthy arcade scene in it for a movie. I know the
kid starts off by playing Missille Command and then goes over and
plays Afterburner as I am sure all of you have seen it. There are
some other videogames shown as well, maybe a Trog and a few others but
I can't remember.

I remember offhand:

Star Castle
Asteroids
Tempest
Pac-Man (with Jeff Spicoli explaining how life is like Pac-Man)
Defender
Missile Command (whose "The End" screen was used to end the movie)

Does it count if you RENT games for use in movies? We get a number of rentals
yearly, out last big one was for X-Files season premier, and we rented the
Bubbler Jukebox, Donkey Kong, Gauntlet II, and a bunch of others....
Just rented a Stern "Pinball" to some production called "Sliders" stay tuned.

Rush was one of my favorite groups when I was a kid. I wonder if they
still haul video games along with them on tour? I wonder what they
would play now? Somehow I can't see Alex LIfeson or Neil Peart

I remember a lot of attention being placed on Tempest in the movie
"Night of the Comet" (1984 i think??). I haven't seen it for a couple
of years but I remember the girl who was the main character had every
high score on the game. "REG" was the initials. She got really upset
when someone added their initials and ruining her dominance on the
game. There were others there but I can't remember which ones they
were, although I'm pretty sure they were all Atari games.

Hi.

According to the following link:

http://syrinx.umd.edu/rush/RUSH/09.mp.html#tomsawyer

the lyric is:

Today's Tom Sawyer,
He gets high on you,

And the space he invades
He gets by on you.

I like the reference, too. Whatever it's supposed to mean, it makes
me think of the game. :)

Regards,

Dave.

An MTV video I can recall is "Space Age Whiz Kids", but I only
remember Donkey Kong being in it. I don't know the artist, but I
remember how some of the song goes.
Anyway, They just let Mario stand there at game's start while the blue

image is burned in my mind, and I am scarred for life.

Maybe Roger Earl will soon remind us of his game spottings web page!
He'll have a lot more pictures there as soon as I receive his blank

The 1978 horror movie Dawn of the Dead takes place in a shopping mall,
where some people get trapped inside after hours with the zombies outside
trying to break in, and there's a part where they take a break and take
advantage of the situation that they're in a closed mall and break into
some stores and stuff. They spend some time in an arcade and there's
shots of lots of old games including some driving game that wasn't really
a video game; it used lights and a plastic car that moved around and some
kind of explosion lit up when it crashed.
The B-movie "Getting it On" from 1983 has a scene in an arcade too,
they're talking around a Pac-Man. This movie is about a kid who buys lots
of video cameras to spy on girls; it's an interesting movie for fans of
video in general; it's amazing how things have changed!

This is another rumor that just won't die. Right up there with the Army
Battlezone stuff.

Just the cardboard box for Tempest. According to a thread from about 18 mos
ago, there were titles "seen" in the movie that *never* existed. The 5200
C&D was actually the arcade game on a TV.

Although in a recent Ultimate Gaming magazine, there is an article that
supposedly shows a 2600 Tempest. ROTFL...
