Did dual monitor Nintendo cabinets ever come from the factory with that
type of monitor screen, or is that something someone had made up at a
glass shop to replace a missing or damaged original?
I look at it this way, you can't really just go out and replace the
original (if your's broke), so some smart fellow came up with this
idea.

I'm not sure what you are saying. My question concerns the front screen
in that eBay auction being two-piece glass rather than one-piece plexi,
and whether that was something the factory did or someone else did.
Yes. PlayChoice 10 cabinets with dual monitor setups came with the two
piece (real glass) setup. That is original. PunchOuts came with the
single plexi glass setup with the middle bend in the plexi.

Now that is interesting. Seems like a strange move on Nintendo's part.
By 1986 was *anyone* still using glass screens? I would imagine the two
piece tinted glass plus metal bracket to be more expensive than the
plexi they used on Punch-Out machines, not to mention the potential for
messy damage in a commerical arcade environment. Well, at least they
would be cigarette burn proof, very scratch resistant and have nice
visual clarity.
For some reason I thought that all PC-10's, along with Super
Punch-Out's and Arm Wrestling's, were Punch-Out conversions.
I was under the assumtion that Playchoice, Playchoice 5, Playchoice 10,
etc were ALL conversion kits. I didn't think they had a "dedicated
cabinet". (now just not sure)
Either way.... I flipped through the manuals and came to this
conclusion.
Punch Out came out first defineately having the one piece plexi style
screen (bezel). http://tinyurl.com/jmybu
The (what appears to be dedicated) Playchoice 10 manual shows the same
exact screen (bezel). It is even labeled with the part number CHP which
means it comes from Punch Out parts list. http://tinyurl.com/g7w6m
Now the Playchoice 10 "kit" manual does indeed show the
change/replacement to the two piece glass screens. (why I don't know)
http://tinyurl.com/g9qck
So in conclusion, I'm thinking you could find a dual monitor Playchoice
10 with EITHER option.
And yes, I was bored and had nothing better to do. .
Now that is strange. Your last link, to the PC-10 *kit* manual,
specifically stated to be a kit for converting Punch-Out, Super
Punch-Out and Arm Wrestling machines, describes that two piece glass
front screen as "front screen modification" and it is included in the
kit under the names of:
PCH Front Screen Upper
PCH Front Screen Lower
PCH Front Screen Bracket
So this is not a case of dedicated cabinets vs. Punch-Out conversions,
since this "front screen modification" is included in the conversion
kit. There had to be a reason for it. I'm guessing it had something to
do with the light gun functionality. Maybe the light gun didn't perform
as well through the standard Punch-Out plexi screen, particularly once
well scratched up? Glass would solve the scratching problem.

I always thought those were R-Type cabinets. (which I thought were
cool)
Got any pics of it?
Wow. I have never heard of such a thing. What were the make(s) and
model(s) of the monitors? I assume Sanyo or Sharp, but I didn't even
know that either one of them made a 9" arcade monitor. Do you have any
pictures of the one you have? I'd love to see one.

They show pictures of the single monitor playchoice version too, but mine is
slightly different, the pc 10 sideart is about 8 inches lower, and at the
top of the cabinet is the big red nintendo logo on each side.
