Does anyone have an idea where I should begin? Video ram (if so,
which chip(s))? Power supply needing adjustment? Re-seating needed
or check interconnect cables?
Try turning down the brightness on the monitor flyback first.

It only dimmed the picture, until it was no longer visible. The
stripes don't seem to affect sprites in the foreground (tron, light
cycles, tank's turret).
Also...it's got Bob Roberts' battery replacement but scores aren't
saving...double checked the diode that came with the kit, it was good,
the battery had 3.2V when removed and measured with a meter. It does
have the "freeplay" rom available online...but the machine's been
playing find for over a month...I just noticed the score resetting
this week, then tonight the red lines...
Can anyone tell me which chip actually saves the scores? And where to
check to verify it's getting 5V?
I checked and the 3V button battery seems fine, and the diode that
replaced R217 is in correctly...no broken traces...everything seems to
check out with the continuity meter. I haven't checked if it's saving
other settings...
So the "mods" I've done are:
- installed the lithium battery conversion kit to the PS
...but due to some unknown issue the scores still
weren't saving so I removed the battery.
- remove Resistor R135 on the SSIO PCB for attract sound
- replaced the ROM at D2 on the CPU PCB with a FREEPLAY rom I burned
- replaced the RAM at B2 on the CPU PCB with a "Dallas 1220Y" NV/SRAM
I also replaced the handles with the GroovyGameGear repros (they look
awesome!).
