I have a friend in CT looking for a working Konami X-Men 4-player
board. Email me directly at vicanita at aol.com if you have one.

Thanks,

Vic

X-Men and other same vintage Konami boards tend to have problems with
the sound - caused by capacitors leaking under the epoxy of the hybrid
sub-board.

I have some suggestions on possibly fixing this (works for us):

Thanks for the pics, John. I'll give this a try on my board.

Take it slow and easy - wash the affected area with white (clear)
vinegar then water.

The bottom side of the sub board is a hybrid circuit as well, do not
disturb it if you can avoid that. You are looking to repair the failed
capacitors that support the audio IC only.

Thankfully, I have rework and board cleaning equipment here at work. I
probably even have replacement caps... I didn't bother to investigate
the issue, as the epoxy covered audio block looked burned. I didn't
think that the caps could be leaking.

By and large the capacitors cause volume issues - if the board is not
working then this module is not likely to be the problem, but if sound
quality or volume is the issue then you really want to open up the top
of this module as I show here:
