I've been reading through Rick Schieve's old 1993 FAQ on how to hack
Tempest into a Gravitar cabinet http://tinyurl.com/2uwbc and was wondering
if anyone had done this conversion in recent years. I am at cabinet
capacity right now and would like to add Tempest to my arsenal and it looks
like my Gravitar cabinet could be a good candidate for this. I am more of a
person who learns by visuals and would sure appreciate some pics of
Tempest->Gravitar wiring adapters that might be in existance so I can get a
better idea of what this entails. I have a pretty good idea based on the
FAQ text, but pictures are sooo much better. :)

Thanks in advance!

Tempest has a Vertical monitor, Gravitar is Horizontal. It's not too
easy to rotate a monitor in that cab w/o hacking up the woodwork
mounting inside. I think you can play a Vertical game in a Horz xy
monitor, but the image will be much smaller and I think some of the
text images may be inverted.

I did the conversion years ago to allow Tempest, Gravitar and Black Widow to
all run in a Black Widow Cab using Rick's FAQ as a guide. Not too difficult
to follow, and I'm certainly not a tech! ;-)

Tempest runs fine that way, it's just shorter and wider. No loss of any text
or graphics.

Not looking to cut up the Gravitar in any way - the FAQ describes how to
make a converter in the wiring loom that would allow a Tempest PCB to run in
a SD/GRA/BW cabinet using the monitor in the horizonal position. No, it's
not the same as having Tempest on a vertical monitor, but I have no room to
add another cabinet, so one must make do in these circumstances. :)
