Hi all.

I can't seem to find any recent posts about this, so I thought I would
check in and see if anyone can help. I have a Sega Outrun PCB that is
dead for some reason. I'm assuming it's due to a suicide battery, but
I'm not all that well versed in this, and have seen some traffic
suggesting that only the Turbo board has the suicide battery, and the
original Outrun PCB's do not. At any rate, when I plug the Outrun PCB
in, I get a faint green screen with black horizontal lines- that's
it. It's definitely the board, as I have another Turbo board set that
works fine in the machine.

Can anyone be of help here? Is there a way to diagnose this and/or
fix? Can a suicided Outrun PCB be resurrected, or is that just the
Turbo boards.

Thanks

Regular outruns dont have a suicide battery, I think only Turbos.
Check that you have 5v to the board

Both boards do get power, or at least I do get a red light on both
boards. The Turbo boards work fine when installed, so I'm thinking
it's got to be something specific to the non-turbo board, right?

Hi.

Thanks for the info. I'm still interested, yes. But, not looking to
really dump too much money in the machine, as I may not hang on to it
long. Just thought I would try to get the boards I have up and
running. How much are you looking for?

Aaron,
It sounds like your board has bad ram chips or bad buffer chips. The
chips are very hard to come by. If you go to get rid of that board,
send me an email, I am looking for a dead board, I need the crystal
oscillator and a couple of sockets off the board. I'll pay the
shipping!

Send me an email or let me know, email:ri...@treisp.com
Thanks,
Rickr

Thanks

Hey. Well, I'm not sure what I did, but I now get a picture - it's
just all scrambled. So, I'm trying to figure that out. Any ideas?

I might also be able to help you out. I had picked up another Sega
outrun board (top pcb only) for like $10, thinking I might be able to
salvage some parts from it. Trouble is, all the EPR and OPRs are
different. Upon closer inspection, they are for the Sega Shinobi
game. The board, however, is the same as the Outrun. I don't believe
I can use this board for anything in my quest. I've already swapped
out the 6800 chips with mine to see if that made a difference, and it
didn't, so I put them back on. The board is complete, aside from two
missing 222 transistors. Is that of any use to you? Trying to hit up
a friend locally to see if he has anyone who can test my board and fix
it. Worth too much if its fully operational.

Good to hear some progress, keep at it as you have time. You almost
need a
a good working set so you could at least narrow down the problem to
the cpu
pcb or the video pcb. I don't know what the above poster is talking
about as any
parts I've looked for to get my boards going were easily found after
multiple
searching. If you do find that you need some ram chips then drop me a
line as
I have new ones in tubes. He needs sockets? Really? I notice he's
posted on
KLOV as well looking for Out Run boards. Instead of talking people out
of their
pcbs maybe post with some repair tips. As far as help I'm all ears as
I have two
extra sets that have issues as well. If you do finally give up then
list it on ebay.
Nonworking board sets are bringing between $80 and $100+ - I don't
know if these
prices will last but at least you'll get more than shipping costs.

Thanks for the input. Very much appreciated. I noticed the double
post on Klov as well. I didn't do research for sockets, but was a bit
curious about that request too. I would think those are pretty easy
to get. Good to know on the price range. I know a working set clears
$150 at times, so definitely worth trying to fix. I also have an
extra sound amp for Outrun that needs work if you need one. Right
channel works, left doesn't. Probably needs a new cap somewhere.
Just havn't gotten to that yet. On my way to drop these off to be
looked at actually. Most people tell me you have to have an Outrun to
test it, but we'll see. I have working Turbo boards, and there are
some mods to those, so no real help. Afraid to mod it back- to
fricken fragile.

Guys, I work on these boards as a hobby, I'm not looking to snake any
boards, if I see some one with problems, I will decently offer help,
and if you have questions please let me know. I usually try to get
boards that are the same as the ones I am working on so I don't have
to worry about miss matched parts. Any as stance I can offer please
let me know, love to help out. And by the way, most boards you see
being bought on eBay? Look at the buyer! You'll see I am the one
purchasing most of them so I have parts for repair, so please let me
know if you have boards for sale!

Thanks,

Hello, so I saw on your post you have ram chips, are they Tmm2015BP
-10? If so are you interested in selling some? Let me know! Also if
you need any assistance with your boards, let me know and I'll see how
I can help! If your boards need repair I can usually repair them for
$75.00 plus shipping. And if I can't repair it cost you nothing except
shipping. Let me know! Thanks.
