Does anyone want to play Time Pilot '84 in their Gyruss cab?

I wanted to play Time Pilot '84 in my Gyruss cab, but there's
no way I was going to punch a hole in my perfect CP for the
Missile button. I suppose one could add a wire to the harness
and connect it up to one of the Start buttons, but I thought
it would be cleaner (and a fun challenge) to do it in software
instead. So I modified the code (only one EPROM needs to be
changed) so that the Start buttons can also work as Fire and
Missile during gameplay (in addition to the regular inputs).
P1 is Fire and and P2 is Missile. So on the Gyruss CP you've
got two choices for Fire (both red buttons) and one for Missile
(the white button). The real Fire button is pretty close
to the Start buttons, so I actually use it and the P2 Start for
Missile (index/middle finger on Fire and pinky on the P2/Missile).
Very comfortable playing it that way.

Another good reason to play TP'84 in a Gyruss is the stereo sound.
You say "but Matt, TP'84 has mono sound, you silly git....".
Take a look at the TP'84 sound board and you'll see it was
initially designed for stereo amplifiers just like Gyruss, but
that plan was scrapped at some point in development. If you
populate the second audio section (and cut the trace that
was added to combine the two channels into mono) you will get
stereo sound. Now don't get too excited... there's not really
anything written in the software to take full advantage of
stereo (like Gyruss does). You do get different sounds out of
the channels, but there aren't any nifty effects. Still sounds
pretty cool though. If you want to add stereo to your board
just check out the sound board schematics and you'll see the
optional components surrounded by dashed lines. And don't
bother installing the extra 76489 sound chip and its companion
4066... there's nothing in the software that uses it and you'll
just get some annoying crap noise out of it.

I've had some pictures up on my website for ages...
I just never bothered to make a page for them:

http://www.scoresaves.info/hacks/tp84stereo2.jpg

I haven't made a page for the input mod either. If anyone is
interested just let me know and I'll send you the ROM image or
send you a chip if you don't have your own burner.

Matt

P.S. Don't forget about the TP'84 high score save:

Buy a kit and I'll throw in the EPROM for the input mod for free.

Matt you are THE MAN once again. Thanks for adding support for the
second button. I was going to do it the old fashioned way and had
putting it off.

It was. Thanks Art.
You got me thinking about that foot switch idea... that might be a fun way to play!
Probably get a leg cramp after about a half-hour though. :)

The foot idea is really good. Matt REALLY needs to alleviate some of his
wrist action. He's living proof that hair doesn't grow on palms afterall!

I've been playing pacman with a ddr pad. I have to admit I'm not very
good though.
