Just got a Galaga in for repair. Power supply is bad, and I was
wondering should I repair it, or is it better to buy a Happ Controls
switcher and install. The latter does not seem to be too hard to
figure out though I have not done one yet. Let me know your thoughts.
Thank you...

Opinions vary on this, but I personally always repair the original power
supply, modifying it if necessary to protect a valuable board in the
event of a malfunction, but IIRC the old linear supplies in Galaga cabs
are not too bad.

Either would work out fine. Rebuilding the linear is easy and it will
work great for another 25 years.

If you're unsure about the wiring for the Happ switcher you can order
pre-wired stuff from Bob Roberts or you can order the Galaga Power
Supply Conversion kit from Arcadeshop.com (comes with an adapter that
uses the existing Galaga connector.)

Personally, I like the arcadeshop one. Just my 2 bits though.

One thing to keep in mind is that if your DC output connector is bad
the switcher kit wont help you much. I'd go with the wired switcher
kit to preserve the factory harness in case a "purist" collector buys
the game down the road.

Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. I know more in depth
googling would have answered, but I was in a hurry.

Thank you...
