I need to build one for myself and repair another one so while I have
Melamine-a-flying I want to gauge demand for dedicated Major Havoc cabs.
As of right now there are no cost figured out yet but ill figure that
out in the next couple days / weeks. Also I might just do the lower part
and you would need to get a FF/ I robot head for it. It would make the
cab cheaper. Input?

I'd suspect the main problem for many would be the lack of a 25"
amplifone. While rare, boardsets are at least available. A kit that
had an optional 19" WG 6100 mount might make it more attractive to
some.

As the head is a key part of the look, I'd recommend you include that
as well. They tend to get beaten up, so a new once would be much more
desirable than one from FF or I, Robot - plus the black melamine would
match base on a new one.

Since are going to do this anyways, another option is to simply to
build a set of detailed plans and parts list (kit instructions) and
sell those. I'd suspect that for someone who really wants to do this,
cost is not a major factor, so the plans would give them all they need
to build it, or have it built, at a later date - one they collect all
the parts. Maybe you can get Darin (phoenixarcade) to include a $5 off
coupon for a full set of his MH art in the kit.

It might even make an ultra-cool vector mame cabinet. Run it by the
ZVG folks.

In any event, I would be interested.

I think they are all 19", the only 25" I have seen is the 720 cab mod
on ionpool.

I suspect that many if not all buyers would be transplanting conversion
guts (SD & Tempest) so the WG would be fine.

MH/IR/FF were all 19" games.

The 25" amplifone was only part of the 720 -> MH hack that Jon
Raiford put together years ago.

I'd go for a good set of plans. The scratch built CT I did cost a small
fortune, so I can't imagine that a somewhat complex UR would be cheap.

Gary,
I'd consider buying one of those..but would be interested in the complete
cab.
It's nice to finally have a supplier of something like this local!

Extruded aluminum parts will be the tough bit. Unless you salvage them
off Firefox cabinets.

I'd really hate to see people killing off Irobots and Firefoxes just to make
fake Major Havocs.. Even if you have the cabinet and the art, you still
need control panels, all the metal bits, harnesses, boards modded for the
monitor, the monitor etc.. Stuffing tempest guts in a repro cab doesn't do
it for me :(

Just my opinion.

I think the hard parts to find right now would only be the aluminum
around the monitor, the control panel (which could easily be reproduced
as well) and the marquee. Everything else is somewhat available. I
might consider purchasing a cabinet as opposed to converting a 720 or
other cabinet. There would be a lot less work involved when you only
have to assemble it as opposed to modifying, stripping, repairing etc
another cabinet.

Personally, I like the Space Duel cabinet. I'm looking at stuffing the
roller controller in mine to see if it will work. I have a spare Space
Duel control panel that has been hacked that would be a perfect
candidate for a conversion.

Hi,

This seems like it would be a very hard project to get off the ground
due to the lack of parts for the cab and the cost of shipping the cab
even as a kit.

I don't like the idea of repro cabs anyway. What's the point of
collecting if the market is soiled with repros. Now if it were just the
monitor head that would be cool but the whole cab would be kind of
counter productive to the whole collecting a rare game thing imo. I
guess this goes for any collectable that's limited in number and out of
production though.

There are virtually no parts on a rotj that are the same on major havoc.

I thought it was similar to FF and I,Robot, but I guess you would only
get back doors head minus the metal and the metal edges of the front
bottom cab part. Oh well.

The point is cost. A real dedicated working Major Havoc costs $4000
and
up, on the rare occasions when they are available. Building one from a
kit,
you might be able to get one up and running for $1000 to $1500. It
might
even be less now that someone is making the roller controllers.

It's like owning a print of a painting. I like Kandinsky's art, but I
can't really
afford to own one of his actual paintings, but I can get a nice print
that's
mounted really well and looks nice for a couple hundred dollars. That
doesn't
cheapen the original painting, it merely gives me access to something
that
I wouldn't have access to otherwise.

Hi,

The whole point is to own an original, these would be fakes, might as
well go with the T or SD conversion imo.

Hi,

Yes, who is making these? A ghost maker means nothing as I have learned
over the past 5 years. It ends up being a bunch of bs from some
dorks who have no idea how to make $.

I would definitely be in for just the smaller nonwood parts like the
aluminum head molding and the CP, plus a set of details plans for
building my own repro cab to put them into.

Just wondering why he is a deadbeat. The roller for MH he produced and the
cones for atari are both nice products.

he lied to all of us. we all held games on his word. never followed
through. told us all he sent money and somehow it got lost in the mail
and blamed usps.

he contacted me for some games. i agreed to hold them for a short time.
after 5 months i began asking for money. he kept putting me off for
this reason and for that. then he claims that NAVL lost 4 truckloads of
games. hmmm, that sounds really odd. so he asked me to set up shipping
because he couldnt find another shipper. i set up shipping and its less
than what he expected to pay he says.

supposedly he drops a check in the mail and 2 weeks later i email him
looking for it. he plays dumb and says where are my games. uh-huh. he
never sent payment. so i ask him to stop payment on his cashiers check
and have it reissued. he claims it takes 91 days for this to happen.
ok, right. then he says he will get back to me after his vacation. i
ask for a paypal good faith deposit of $1000. he said he would have his
business partner take care of it. never happened.

then people started coming out of the woodwork about holding games for
him and payments getting lost in the mail. deadbeat? i think so. big
time.

now ive had these games in full cardboard and shrink wrap since he
asked me to hold them and not sell them to anyone else. so now im
unwrapping them so i can sell them to legit buyers with money.

yes he makes a great product, i still have a link to his website from
mine. but damn man, what he did was low rent. just be upfront and tell
all of us you dont have any money and be done with it.

ive got all his emails to back my story up. as you can see from the
above link in not the only one and im sure there are more.
