"I'll take ego for 200 Alexbot.."
"Name the editor of Game Master Journal who has received more flames than
anyone else on Usenet the past two weeks.. Martee?"
"Who is Anthony Shubert?"
"Well Martee, Anthony Shubert is this guy who has been screwed by many
former business associates. This isn't Jeopardy(tm) so you're incorrect."
"<JBHorowitz> alex Anthony Shubert."
"|JBHorowitz| CORRECT!"
All of a sudden, a Sony exec appears..
"STOP! You can't use Alex, it's a copyrighted trademark blah blah.. and
we'll take your butt and your bot into court and make you a permanent
part of the.." and then he explodes.
Anthony "Ace" Shubert is behind him, wielding a BFG 9000.
"Take that, lawyer scum! Now, where are those people that think that I was
IMPLYING ANYTHING?!?! Bring them on..."
Bbbbbbbbuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzz....
Argh.. I need sleep! Oops.. I have to go catch my flight!
I have read EVERYTHING posted on the net that has to do with myself, GMJ,
and my family. This will be the LAST TIME I reply to the flames.
As far as our 'ego,' we will be making a more conscerted effort to keep it
out of our cyber-pages. Message received.
As far as my age, I have two comments. No one made that an issue until I
said that I was 19.. it makes no difference 'in the biz' and should not make
any on the Net. Also, if anything, I know more what college students like
(and are like) because I am one! :)
Keep my family out of this. I do not make comments about other people's
families.
Someone said that we were trying to _fool_ all of you and _imply_ that we
were the first people on the entire planet to ever play Crusin' USA because we
said that we 'play-tested' it. We tested it by playing. Now, if we said
'beta-testing...,' if you're going to flame, know what you're saying.
About Video Game World, we delayed it because we wanted Crusin' USA and Sega
32X pictures in it. We are also having site problems with our commercial (not
USC) provider. Be sure to see our posting as far as where/when you can get
it.
Until rec.games.video.magazine, all flames/replies go by default to
rec.games.video.advocacy but if people change that, don't flame us! :)
But hey. Read this space next Monday to find out why this Christmas will be
a very wierd one. Cya in 24*9... A P S

Sega's North American plans differ from their Asian ones. In Asia, the $450
Sega Saturn is about to hit the shelves. Feeling that we aren't prepared to
spend that kind of money for videogames, Sega is about to release what some
people call a "transitional system."

Transitional? Unlikely.

Sega's 32X is an add-on to their 16-bit Genesis syetm, currently used by 20
million people. It's 32-bit power will allow for more realistic graphics,
sound and gameplay. (See 32XSPECS, below.)

Sega unleased the 32X this past week in San Francisco's Sound Factory. Many
industry insiders were there to see six games unveiled, as well as Sega's
aggressive advertising campaign.

One 15-second commercial features a surgeon going "inside" a gamer's head, only
to see the 32X. Another commercial, a 30-second spot, is a collage of blazing
action on the screen, followed by the 32X meeting the Genesis in a romantic
sequence, then more action.. ending with 2 people on a rollercoaster with
a quote that will live in videogame history. (We won't give it away here. You
have to see or hear it for yourself. But it ends with "I don't have a drink.")

Glenn Rubenstein, editor-at-large of Blaster (formerly Blast) magazine, said
"Those commercials were great."

The Sega 32X will sell for under $160, but will not come with any games
packed-in. When asked about that, Tom Kalinske, president of Sega, said "many
different people like different types of games. Rather than tie them down to
one game, we'll let the gamers decide [which titles they want.]"

The Sega 32X will be released this November.

Atari producers are using live Martial Arts experts and BioVision(tm) full
motion technology to create the most accurate and realistic Martial Arts
fighting game ever made. Thanks to BioVision technology and the Jaguar's
64-bit power, the characters in the "Fight For Life" video game will have
fluid and natural motion.

At the video shoot, Martial Arts experts will perform the required 250
different moves (attack, defense, collision, moving, etc.) needed for the
game's 3D animation.

25 different markers will be attached to each of the Martial Arts experts.
Signals from each marker will be picked up by the camera and sent to a
central system (monitors will be set up to view this action). The rate of
the shooting is an incredible 200 frames per second. All the data will then
be processed, adjusted and modified for the Jaguar's 3D engine.

Atari has invested in BioVision's advanced production technology to fully
utilize the superior power of the Atari Jaguar 64-bit technology. Although
BioVision's technology has been used to create other video games, it has
never been used to produce 3D games for a system as powerful as the Jaguar
64-bit system.

BioVision offers state-of-the-art motion capture service for the Video Game
Development and Computer Graphics Animation Industries. BioVision software
in conjunction with 3D optical data acquisition system, captures, calculates
and animates motion.

When the 32X is released next month, it will come out with 6 games on the
shelves. These six games run the gamut from racing on a bike to cleaning out
Hell.

Doom, the mother of all first-person shooters, comes to the 32X. It's all
here: the "god codes," the chainsaw, the BFG 9000 and more. It's not quite
full screen, but it's runing at 15 frames-per-second (near 486-66 quality.)
Clean out Mars (yes, Mars) by killing Dead Marines, IMPs, Demons and Lost
Souls. Doom is 24 meg and will sell for $70.

[--]

In Star Wars Arcade, you'll play either a direct translation of the old arcade
classic (with better graphics), or the new 32X adventure. You fly after X and
Y wings in "freespace," meaning that you fly wherever you want to fly. Your
main mission: transport Princess Lea as she guards stolen, secret plans of the
Death Star.

You have three minutes per mission to destroy all of your targets in each
mission. Admiral Ackbar tells you your about mission and what to avoid.
Your ultimate goal: destroy the Death Star and save the univers from the Evil
Empire.

This cart will sell for $60, but a $10 rebate coupon comes with the 32X for
this game.

[--]

Virtua Racing Deluxe, an update of the Genesis and arcade game, has five
tracks and three cars to choose from. This Sega Sports title has a two-player,
split-screen mode so you can face against your friends. Tons of polygon-based
scenery helps the play become more realistic. $70 for this 24 meg game.

[--]

Golf Magazine Presents 36 Holes Starring Fred Couples is the longest title for
a videogame we've ever seen. But as far as the game goes: it's solid. Join
Fred Couples at Doral, Bay Hill, Firestone or Harbor Town golf courses. Great,
fast-appearing graphics make this game shine. We don't suggest buying the 32X
for this one title, however. Coming this Christmas for $70.

[--]

Cosmic Carnage is a fighting game that pits ten extra-terrestials at each
other. From a huge serpant to a human spacewalker, the game is Street
Fighter-like in its feel and combo system. Get your 6-button controller ready!
The screen pans and zooms with the action, with no slowdown or flicker. Needs
a little speed work, however, $70, unconfirmed at 24 meg.

[--]

Motocross Championship was supposed to be "X-citing," but from what I've seen..
it's been "Get the X-lax." Your standard motorcycle game with nice graphics,
but videogame design rule #3: 'Thou shalt not live by graphics alone.' Not
really worth the $70 they want from you.

[--]

Midnight Raiders for the 32X CD was not a playable demo. What we saw, however,
was astounding. TruVideo graphics allow you to fight in aerial combat and
partake in an adventure game, all at once. Blow something up, move on, come
back to it, and it's still blown up! It utilizes that same "freespace" style
of movement that Star Wars Arcade does. In time for the holidays, more than
worth the $60.

[--]

Other games _rumored_ to be coming for the 32X are...
March '95 Mortal Kombat II Special (unoffical title)
April '95 NBA Jam Tournament Edition
Spring '95 Bouncers (see GENPRE in our next issue)
June '95 Virtua Fighting
Summer '95 Sonic 32X CD (working title)

[--]

Sega predicts 75 32X and 32XCD titles by Christmas '95. To fulfill that,
here are the 25 companies that are slated to support the Sega 32X:
COMPANY KNOWN FOR
Absolute Entertainment Tommy Moe's Extreme Skiing
Accolade Bubsy, Charles Barkley
Acclaim Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam series

Atari is now beginning a shipment of cinema-quality Alien Vs. Predator
posters to Atari Jaguar retailers. These posters are extremely impressive.
They feature the image seen in the opening of Atari's new Alien Vs. Predator
video game for the Jaguar 64-bit game system.

I have obtained permission to set aside a limited number of these posters for
our VERY patient online Jaguar gamers. Here's the deal... Listen CAREFULLY!

While they last in my hot little (actually medium size) hands, you may have
one poster FREE! There is a catch I'll mention in a moment, but this poster
is real cool AND is FREE just because everyone has been real patient and we
like your support and if you like your poster, you'll show your friends and
they'll buy an Alien Vs. Predator cartridge because you told them to. Whew!

The catch?!... Oh yea. The poster is carefully rolled in a special mailing
tube and ready to be slapped with your address. All we ask is that you
prepay Atari's minimum shipping and handling fee to cover our expenses of the
tube, label, postage, etc. That fee is only $4.95 each poster. The posters
are already in tubes, so I cannot double up posters and, besides, that
wouldn't be fair so don't ask for more than one per mailing tube please!

This is the EXACT same poster you will see in stores soon and it's certainly
going to become a collector's item.

To get yours, send $4.95 ($8.95 U.S. funds for Canada) in the EXACT amount.
Payment may be received in Money order, check, MasterCard or Visa.

I cannot ship out of North America. Other countries should see what
promotions Atari U.K. may be devising OR make arrangements with someone they
know in North America to forward it to them.
