Hey! Its cool to see new users come to the 3do.

As for the memory manager. All 4 of the demo cds that were released
included a memory manager. Also the demonstration cd icludes a memory
manager. And some games include a memory manager! So I don't think it will
be a big problem.

And I would suggest that you dowload the game guru iso. It has a file
manager and even a saved game compresser. Its good stuff!

You can get an external memory unit but it is very expensive and rare :(

You would want to use 3do controlles. especially since you can buy them for
$2 brand new at www.jafatts.com

Must have games is a tuffy! There are alot of must have games for the 3do.
And there are 2 catagories.
Must have games that you can actually find!
Killing Time
Theme Park
Battle Sport
Return Fire
Just about any studio 3do game
Immercinary
game guru
Alone in the dark 1 and 2
The Horde
Shockwave 2
Road Rash
Luciene's quest
There are alot of other games that would be must have if you were into thoes
types!

Keep in mind I don't own every 3do game so there are still alot of games i
havn't tried yet. Go to my 3do web sites and read some of the reviews. I
even have places to get eache 3do game on there :)

Some games also came with a memory manager. If memory serves, there is one
in STAR CONTROL 2.

Also, take note that the original release of THE HORDE did cause problems in
the NV RAM (save game area), as did PANZER GENERAL.

3DO controlers commonly have 7 buttons (A, B, C. L, R, STOP & PLAY)/Oh, and
NO, while 3DO and Genesis did have the same style connectors, they are NOT
cross-compatable without an adaptor. There is an adaptor for the SNES
controlers.

As to games to reccomend. Well. of what you got, you should enjoy KILLING
TIME. Space Hulk and Road Rash are great, but for some people, the learning
curve can be a bit harsh. Star Control II is great fun, an intergalactic
ACTION/RPG/alot of other things. Return Fire is fun with a human opponent.

Other titles that are fun, are :

Super Street Fighter II Turbo (if you're a real fighting fan)
Psychic Detective (lots of FMV, but still interesting)
Samurai Showdown (best version thats NOT on Neo Geo)
Bladeforce (lots of blast 'em up action)
Foes of Ali (very fun for boxing fans)
Dragon Lore (I kinda liked this one, even though its weird)
Luciennes Quest (the only true RPG to be released in the USA)
sorry, but guardian war is more strategy than
anything else.
POed (just for the carnage)
Way of the Warrior (For fight fans who love carnage... and a
challenge)
Brain Dead 13 (Simply impressive and fun)
Wing Commander III (Great space combat. And beats the PSX version)
Shockwave II: Beyond the Gate (Great game. More vehicles than the orignal
two and more fun)

Titles to avoid :

Mazer. (A very poor game at best.)

Doom. (Should have been called CRAP. A very poor conversion)

Mega Race (eew. Dumb racer)

Any of the Vivid Porno titles. (Even if you're heavy into porno, these are
just plain garbage. You'd see more dirty stuff on PBS.)

Alone in the Dark II (Whoa. AITD 1 was mediocre, but this just plain sucks)

Rise of the Robots. (Bad idea, bad fighting... bad game)

and by all means : avoid Dennis Miller: Thats News to Me. (one of the all
time biggest pieces of crap, he may be funny... .but this game, er...
disc... just isnt)

Well, enough of my rambling. I hope some of that helps.

Hey, thanks for the info guys... Since posting that message, I found out
that the version I got is, in fact, the FZ-1, so it's good to hear the
memory managers are much easier to get a hold of than I ever realized

Yeah, I've read about problems with the first release of The Horde erasing
saved game files, which is why I asked about external memory cards to
archive my saves to. How can I tell which version I have? And is there any
way to avoid erasing other files if I have the original release?

Thanks again, and I'm sure I'll be back again soon with more questions. I'll
leave my impressions of the system once it comes, too... I expect it to be
here in about a week. :)

The controller looks like a freaky mix of the Genesis and SNES controllers. It
has the A, B, and C button from the genesis, the L and R and select and start
from the SNES, a headphone jack on the bottom, along with volume dial, and a
controller port on top, to daisy-chain more controllers on. The connect even
looks the same, and the port will fit, so you can connect one, but it won't
work. Though, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, and Atari 2600 (I think that's
the right number) controllers are all interchangeable. Especially with the
Sonic games which only need one button. Yay, it's fun playing Sonic with that
one-button joystick, or for a challenge, the paddle thing.

Star Control 2 is THE BEST GAME EVER!!! And the 3DO version is the best version
of it. The Horde is pretty good, made by the same two people who made SC2. A
great SC2 site is www.star-control.com.

P.S.
NEVER get SC3, it was a lousy rip-off created by the company that owned the
rights, pissed of the original creaters, and was left to make a sequal on their
own.

If you have the newer version of "The Horde" The box might have a sticker
on it that says "new enhanced save features" Also under the save/load stuff
you will see a button to erase all non-horde saved games. If you have that
button you have the new version! I don't think there are a lot of the old
versions out there especially since crystal dynamics offered and exchange
for the older cd...

Glad I could help
