Ok maybe I'm just giddy at finally getting some hard new about M2, but
here's what I see in M2's future.

Matsushita will actually play it smart and market the M2 aggressively,
and as a Panasonic product avoiding the use of the 3D0 lable at all
cost. The type of name recognition that Panasonic provides and an
aggresive TV add campaign will boost the M2 into a competative position
in the market and most importantly attract software developers. Studio
3DO having a jump on competing software developers will establish a
strong lineup of new titles and Opera ports and actually develop a video
game superstar (e.g. Mario and Sonic). In the mean time, as their market
share grows and their own software sales pick up, Matsushita
simultaneously introduces add ons such as a modem that enables
the M2 to serve as a web browser and allows for modem gameplay and lowers
the M.S.R.P. of the console to $200. With so much to offer at a
competative price the M2 gobbles up the console market. Sega and
Nintendo, facing extinction, cut a deal with Panasonic and unify their
systems. Now the war really begins. Sony releases their 64 bit system,
but facing Matsushita and her licencees (Nintendo,Sega, and Goldstar) is
kind of like Apple facing IBM and all its clones. Eventually after years
of upgrades and new Consoles from both sides Sony finally gives up on the
home console market (ironically within a few years of this occurance the
digital communications/entertainment network catches on and TV's home
PC's, telephones, and consoles are all combined into one system that
makes all these products obsolete). At least, if Matsushita plays its
cards right, that's how it should be.

..And then in 2002 the M2 becomes self aware. In a panic we try to pull the
plug but the M2 fights back and launches U.S. nuclear missles into the former
Soviet Union, the resulting counter attack manages to take out most of
mankind...Judgment Day Has Begun...

No! you've got to believe me! Did I mention the part where the resistance
locates the key person that led up to the events surrounding Judgment Day?
Namely Trip Hawkins! So they send a lone warrior back in time to either
persuade or Kill Trip Hawkins. However the M2 is wise to the rebels plans
so it sends back a prototype model the Mario 256 to intercept.
The Mario 256 uses technology derived from the Ultra 256 chip to make it
look and play like the original 8-bit Mario so that no one would know!

you... yoU'VE GOT TO BELIEVE ME! ALL OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT!

Do you think all the delays are due to technical problems? NO! we are
trying to stop it from happening! His mission failed (he couldn't figure
out how to get out of negative world, so he's still stuck there) so now
it's up to us! WE MUST STOP THE M2 AT ALL COSTS!

P.S. He did say that Need For Speed 2 was way cool though :-)

Actually your wrong. This is all just part of Matsushita's plan to take
over the world. They are only waiting to place their operatives in
key positions in our government. Soon the takeover will begin. We
are all doomed. We should just surrender now.

But seriously. Woudln't it be nice to see the M2 actually come out
the way they say it will. WOuldn't it be nice if they actually do
market it aggressively. Wouldn't it be worth all the trouble and
wiating that 3DO users haver put up with if the M2 is back compatable
and has some good titles and is affordable. I know its knida silly
to hope for these things, but I am an optimist, and I will keep
hoping until I am proven wrong emphatically. I'm not saying I expect the
M2 to dominate the market or for its ancestors to start some sort of home
electronics revolution. I'd just like the M2 to succeed well enough that
I can rent a game at Blockbuster. But, then again I guess that's what
everyone here wants.

Sounds like you need to get out to the movies more often. ;)
