Hello,
I've been trying to create Game Guru codes for the games 'Alone In The
Dark' and 'Alone In The Dark 2', but the Game Guru says something like
"too many changes!". Has anyone successfully created codes for either
of these games or why can't I create a code? Anyone know? I saved a
game at one point in my game (with for example 50 health points) and
then saved again in the same place with no changes at all except the
hit points. But I keep getting the error message over and over again.
What's the deal here? Did the company put in some anti-hacking tactics
to get around the Game Guru or something? If you know, please e-mail
me or post it here in the newsgroup. I'm very curious. Thanks.

It's possible that AITD and AITD2 use an internal compression scheme to
save their files, which would cause the Game Guru to freak. "Normal" 3DO
saved games would have your lives, energy, level, etc. settings all in the
same place in every saved file. Think of it as changing just a few
characters in a simple text file. If you compared the original text file
to the updated file, it would be pretty easy to see just changes that you
made. Now, if you took both of those files and ran them through a
compression algorithm (for our example, let's say we compressed the text
files with PKZip). The resulting files would definitely be hard to
compare. I'm not sure what the internal limit of changes are for the Game
Guru to calculate a comparison, but I think AITD and AITD2 are definitely
saving their files after some internal optimization....
