I have some information for those of you who are follow the history of
the Vectrex. Western Technologies (aka Adrenalin Interactive), the
original developer of the Vectrex, has stopped doing business. The
company was healthy, but I understand that Jay Smith, the founder and
CEO, decided to retire. It is the end of an era! A new company,
Sennari, has taken over much of Western/Adrenalin's projects and
assets. Sennari was started by Mike Cartabiano, a longtime manager at
Western with much experience in our industry. They are working on the
next generation of classic games and toys.

Thanks for the news ... So does that mean that the copyright of the
Vectrex and its games will pass to the new company? I hope this does
not change the non-profit status of sharing Vectrex material that Jay
Smith has kindly permitted.

I don't know what becomes of the rights regarding Vectrex. I imagine
Jay's main concern was the welfare of his staff and honoring the
current commitments to clients. After the dust settles, i'll ask
about Vectrex.

I'll hold my breath until word arrives...

Cross your fingers everyone!

In case anyone hasn't heard Jay's or Michael's statements from CGE 99:

http://vectrex.vintagegaming.com/po_cge.htm

I haven't heard independently about the change of ownership of the
Vectrex ROMs, but if ownership has switched to Michael's control then I
think we can all breathe safely...

However, in Jay's emulation statement he states that he got back the
rights to the Vectrex)...

Either way, I think we're all safe. Both Jay and Michael (both of whom
I talked to at CGE) are proud of the continued interest and
development of the Vectrex...
