These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2012-04-02,
and should be interpreted accordingly. All questions were written
by members of Footloose and Firkin Free, but have been reformatted
and may have been retyped and/or edited by me. I will reveal the
correct answers in about 3 days.

For further information, including an explanation of the """ notation
that may appear in these rounds, see my 2021-07-20 companion posting
on "Reposted Questions from the Canadian Inquisition (RQFTCI*)".

* Game 10, Round 1 - Current Events (excerpt)

Answer these 2012 questions if you like for fun, but for no points.

1. Passengers had to subdue the pilot on a flight on which US-based
airline?

2. Hospital pharmacists are threatening that unless the government
amends its plans to reform professions that have high entry
barriers, they will cut Italians off from what prescription drug?

* Game 10, Round 2 - History - Famous Epitaphs

In each case we will provide you with the epitaph and the year
that the person died, and you give us the name of the person.
Obviously, some were not originally in English; in one case we
provide the original version as well. Most of these are found on
actual gravestones that can still be seen today, but not all.

1. "She did it the hard way." (1989)
2. "The best is yet to come." (1998)
3. "Hey Ram" (translation: "Oh, God"). (1948)
4. "Everybody loves somebody sometime." (1995)
5. "Cast a Cold Eye on Life, on Death. Horseman, pass by." (1939)
6. "A tomb now suffices him for whom the world was not enough."
(323 BC)

7. "Murdered by a traitor and coward whose name is not worthy to
appear here." (1882)

8. "I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared
for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter." (1965)

9. "And alien tears will fill for him, pity's long broken urn.
For his mourners will be outcast men and outcasts always mourn."
(1900)

10. "This Grave contains all that was Mortal, of a YOUNG ENGLISH
POET, Who, on his Death Bed, in the Bitterness of his Heart,
at the Malicious Power of his Enemies, Desired these words to
be engraven on his Tomb Stone: 'Here lies One Whose Name was
writ in Water.'" (1821)

* Game 10, Round 3 - Sports - Sports Venues

Ten questions about venues from a variety of different sports.

1. In which US city """is""" the Rose Bowl played? (Specific city,
not the metropolitan area.)

2. In which US city """is""" the Gator Bowl played? (Specific
city.)

3. Which European soccer club """plays""" their home games at the
Santiago Bernabeu stadium? (City and team name.)

4. Which European soccer club """plays""" their home games at
Ibrox Stadium? (City and team name.)

5. """There is""" a rotation of 9 golf courses that regularly
host the British Open. The Old Course at St. Andrews is the
the most famous of these courses. Name any one of the other 8.
If you want to show off by naming additional ones that aren't
part of your answer, please put them in parentheses so I know
how many answers you're giving.

6. Name the famous and picturesque golf club located on the south
side of California's Monterey peninsula. It """hosts""" the
annual AT&T Pro-Am tournament, and """has hosted""" the US Open
Championship 5 times.

7. Which world-famous horse race """is""" held annually at Aintree
Racecourse, near Liverpool, England? It """is""" run over a
distance of 4 miles 2½ furlongs (6.94 km) with horses jumping
30 fences.

8. Spruce Meadows """is""" a sports facility located in the
foothills of the Alberta Rocky Mountains just south of the city
of Calgary. It """is""" probably Canada's preeminent venue
for which sport?

9. At which arena did the Detroit Red Wings play their home games
prior to moving to Joe Louis Arena in 1979?

10. At which arena did the Philadelphia Flyers play their home
games from 1967 to 1996, before moving to their """current"""
home at the Wells Fargo Center?

JetBlue.

He had a mental breakdown and began shouting incoherently about
terrorism and religion. The copilot tricked him into leaving the
cockpit and locked him out. He was tried and acquitted on grounds of
insanity, and both he and the passengers subsequently sued the airline
for allowing him to fly in such a condition. The passengers' lawsuit
was quickly settled, but I can't find the outcome of the pilot's case.

Viagra. Joshua got this.

Where not noted otherwise, they are on the actual gravestones or
similar markers.

Bette Davis. 4 for Joshua.

However, apparently due to a dispute between family members, the
original stone was replaced around 2020 with one reading "Sleep
Warm, Poppa":

Alexander the Great. 4 for everyone -- Dan Blum, Dan Tilque,
Erland, and Joshua.

His actual tomb has not been identified.

> 7. "Murdered by a traitor and coward whose name is not worthy to

Jesse James. 4 for Dan Blum and Joshua.

See: http://www.death2ur.com/farm4.jpg
Apparently this is a replica as too much of the original stone was
lost to souvenir hunters.

> 8. "I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared
> for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter." (1965)

Sir Winston Churchill. 4 for Dan Tilque.

This is a quotation *from* Churchill, but his actual gravestone has
no epitaph.

> 9. "And alien tears will fill for him, pity's long broken urn.
> For his mourners will be outcast men and outcasts always mourn."
> (1900)

Oscar Wilde. 4 for Joshua.

See the gravestone:
http://uploads2.wikiart.org/00335/images/jacob-epstein/3.jpg
And the epitaph:
http://64.media.tumblr.com/9c5b0ca562d9dfbc87961d641c629c84/tumblr_pj0o5l5otk1qf0ag4_1280.jpg

The words are a quotation *from* Wilde, and while some sources
connect them with his gravestone, I can't find either an image that
clearly shows such an inscription on the stone (which is another
one that's been heavily damaged by the public) or one that shows
that the inscription in the epitaph photo is somewhere else.

One more has been added. The other 9 now are: Carnoustie, Muirfield,
Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool (aka Hoylake), Royal Lytham &
St. Anne's, Royal Portrush (the added one), Royal St. George's
(aka Sandwich), Royal Troon, Turnberry. 4 for Joshua.

Pebble Beach (still true, except the last bit is now 6 times).
4 for Dan Tilque and Joshua.

A picturesque spot indeed. See:

Grand National Steeplechase.

And hence the title of Elizabeth Taylor's first starring movie role,
"National Velvet", made when she was 12. Velvet is her character's
name. Incidentally, although set in England, the movie was filmed
in California -- some of it at Pebble Beach.

Show jumping (equestrian). (Still true as far as I know.)

They moved again in 2017 to Little Caesars Arena.

They still play at the Wells Fargo Center.
