These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on the date
indicated below, and should be interpreted accordingly. If any
answers have changed due to newer news, you are still expected to
give the answers that were correct on that date.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of Bill Psychs and are
used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. The posting and tabulation of
current-events questions is independent of the concurrent posting of

2. An award-winning science-fiction and fantasy writer, best known
for her "Earthsea" books, died on Tuesday at age 88. Name her.

3. On Thursday, the "Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists" moved the
Doomsday Clock ahead by 30 seconds. What time is it set to now?

4. The man who was Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities
has resigned from cabinet pending investigation into allegations
of sexual harassment. Name him.

5. A pioneering American skiing/snowboarding filmmaker died
on Wednesday. He produced, directed, and narrated his films
until 1988. Name him.

6. Roger Federer played in his record 7th Australian Open final
on Sunday. His opponent in the semifinals was the first Korean
to reach a semifinal at a tennis major. Who was that?

7. An annual "cheese-rolling" event in a village in Cambridgeshire
has been cancelled, primarily due to lack of interest. Some
people claim the village to be the true home of its namesake
blue-veined cheese. Name the cheese.

8. Saskatchewan's next premier was selected at a leadership
convention in Saskatoon on Saturday. After winning with 53.7%
of the vote, he will replace Brad Wall. Name him.

9. On Tuesday, Cara Operations struck a deal to buy a Canadian
steak-house chain for $200,000,000. What chain?

10. Canada has agreed to sign on to a resurrected version of a
certain trade agreement. Last November, Canada was seen as the
main holdout during talks in Vietnam. Name the trade agreement.

3. On Tuesday, despite just recently being named interim leader
of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, which MPP
announced that he would not run for the party's leadership?

4. This week the Senate passed a bill to make the national anthem
gender-neutral again. They changed the second line from "in

5. A controversial US government memo was released this week?
It is named for the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee

It's "again" because, when Robert Weir wrote the English lyrics

Many Poles ended up owning property once held by Jews. They either
took it when it was left vacant or paid firesale prices to the
displaced owners.
