I've just gotten a couple of Bobby Darrin albums and really enjoy
them. Can anyone tell me what happened to him? I somehow
remember that he died in 1973 but I am really uncertain about that.
I appreciate the help.

He died at age 37....he always had had some kind of heart condition. I
read a biography, called something like 'The 37 years of Bobby Darin',
which was very good. He had been married to Sandra Dee for a while, and
they had a son, too....

I love his music, also! :) Especially stuff like 'Eighteen Yellow
Roses' and 'Beyond the Sea'. :)

I checked my Cinemania '94 CD-ROM - it says he died following an
operation in 1973 at the age of 37. It also says he had suffered
heart trouble for a long time prior to the operation (it just implies
that the operation was on his heart). I always thought he died of cancer.

After Bobby Kennedy was killed, Darrin stopped using Bobby, went back to
Robert. He died young.

Someone else besides me who loves Darrin? Terrific singer. Listen to
"Artificial Flowers" if you haven't already.

He was also nominated for an Oscar for his role in "Captain Newman, MD".

All the places I look spell his name "Darin"

I think you might enjoy his last recorded tune... a gospel style piece
called "Maybe We Can Get It Together Before We Die" It's pretty great.

For someone claiming to be a fan, you seem to have your "Darin's" mixed
up. Bobby Darin (not 60's heartthrob James Darren) is still alive and
belting out the standards on a nightly basis in Las Vegas. Mr. Darin
made a brief foray into motion pictures, but retreated from the limelight
not long after the death of his close friend Ernie Kovacks. From what I
understand he still sounds great!

Nenslo replies: A very interesting response, made even more so by the
fact that it is either quite creative or quite mistaken. According to an
issue of Beyond magazine from 1968, Bobby had a sincere revelationary
experience while standing at the grave of John F. Kennedy. He was able
to rebuild his relationship with Sandra Dee and reassess his entire
outlook and career. There is a very late album of songs which he appears
to have written himself, similar to Sinatra's Trilogy:the future. I have
not heard it but it looks like one of those things that's so sincer you
just want to laugh/cry. Once he got his priorities straight and his
life back on track and his relationships squared away, and was well on
his way to actually communicating some sincere and beneficial ideas to
humanity he had a heart attack and died.

Somewhere... beyond the sea... somewhere, waiting for meeee...

What did any of that have to do with Elaine Joyce? She was married to
Bobby Van, who is also dead.

Hey Snopes, where can I get tickets for the Bobby Darin "Resurrection Tour 95" show?
Maybe you were refering to Elvis as still "belting out the standards on a nightly
basis in Las Vegas." but it is sure not Bobby Darrin.

Phillos' Brother, what ever Happened to....Back when JFK and the Indians were
helping me build all the roads on Guam, we would sing songs about the Mighty
Bropghham of Phillo, Stinky Sphixalator. His exploits spanned the Pacific at
that time, and the islanders from Toenisia to Sploovania would see (visions
that could be not there) at the beach as they spread on the caocao butter and
tow jam. At break time, after using the Two Guns (it is a town in AZ) parking
lot to rest in, we could deconstruct the tales and figure out which was
directly attributable to Sphix Brother of Phillo Droumonud. This would lead
to fights and some deaths, as the indians had very strong favorites about
which of the Brothers they would choose to lead the tyribes to the great Bank
Of the West. The roads of the Guam are very slippery in the rainy season
because of the blood o' the fights.

More later.
