: I have watched Nick at Night with this question in mind, but there
: doesn't seem to be a pattern. Nick at Night shows them in order, but
: I'm sure I've seen him trip one night, and walk around it the next.

I heard that Carl Reiner, during the second season, randomly alternated
between the ottoman tripping opener and the safely bypassing the ottoman
opener in order to get people to watch the show, just to find out whether
Rob trips or not.

My daughter, an avid NICK at NITEer, says that since Rob is the HEAD writer he
has to stay at the office later. Or maybe he had to go pick up dessert. Or maybe
he's not really Rob, maybe he's a tyloite(?) trying to fool them. -- well maybe not,
because he had thumbs when he shook their hands.

The first season's shows opened with still pictures. The second, third,
and fourth opened with the famous trip. The final season had him
sidestepping the trap.
