felt rather pleased, in an odd way, at having gone for the obvious

and even when it turns out to be totally wrong, it's still right for his
quizzes. Example: the question about how many countries Spain borders on.
However, I think both Alaska and Pacific should be considered right
here, since the question was ambiguous. There are two official terms
applicable here: Contiguous US (i.e. the old 48 states) and Continental
US (Contiguous + Alaska). Upon hearing the term "US mainland" (which is
not an official term), some people will think of one and some the other.
Just happened in this quiz. So both should be given credit.

Does anyone have a definitive source? I'm happy to accept either answer

Interesting bit of trivia: the name Alaska derives from the Aleut word
for "mainland".
BTW, the Wiki page for Contiguous United States has a subsection titled
"Continental United States". It does not mention that this term has an
official meaning. It needs to be updated about that. Anyone?

So I answered "Alaskan Time" which must be correct, whatever you intended
to ask. (And personally I don't think "Pacific" can be considered to
be correct. I was somewhat amused to see so many people from North
America to walk into that trap.)
Furthermore my answer to Q10 was "Harry was dead" which certainly is a
weaker story from those who knew the plot, but you say "He was dead /
unburied" in the results posting.

I guess it is open to interpretation whether Alaska is a cape or a
peninsula. Or at least the interpretation is sometimes open in Australia.
