My wife is allergic to a lot of things, even those tiny perfume inserts
in magazines, so she's always careful to steer clear of those saleswomen
in department stores who want to spray you with the latest overpriced
fragrance. Why is it that they don't make perfumes in any of the scents
that would really work, like chocolate or cinnamon?

[Unless you're allergic to reading directions, please head on over to

CATEGORY QUESTIONS:

[ Entertainment & Food ]
What "A Raisin in the Sun" actor directed "Stir Crazy" in 1980 and
"Ghost Dad" in 1990?

[ Literature & Arts ]
According to Mother Goose, who killed Cock Robin?

[ Geography & Nature ]
In what city are the Nobel Prizes in every category except Peace
awarded?

[ History & Government ]
What U.S. senator claimed to have a list of 205 Communists in a
speech in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1950?

What gold medal swimmer married another gold medal swimmer, Mark
Henderson, on July 4, 1997 at Lake Tahoe?

Don't know.

So SHOWER, 7th letter up, and it's not FLY... ah, SPARROW? Then
POITIER, of course, and I'll guess ROBERTSON.

SPITZ, Mark (I know this is incorrect. He's the only gold medal swimmer I know.)

Quilt answer: SHOWER, seventh letters up

Incorrect (other than a certain marijuana-smoker who broke the
aforementioned guy's records; but neither could have legally married
Henderson then ;-).

Correct.

Thanks, I'd been saving that up for a final-set quilt for a while.

Eight points.

Correct (not what I was looking for but certainly worth the point as
Wikipedia says it "may be responsible for 50% of all foodborne
outbreaks of gastroenteritis in the U.S.", and I see other sources
with even stronger claims).

Oh yeah . . . Michael Phelps. I remembered his name during
the process of writing that I didn't remember his name.

SUMMER SANDERS (but they divorced in 2001)

POITIE R
SALMON E LLA
SPARRO W
STOCKH O LM
McCART H Y
SANDER S

Quilt Solution: SHOWER (running up the seventh column)
Looking at the puzzle, only one answer didn't start with the letter
"S" (if you include first names).
