These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2023-05-08,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of Bloor St. Irregulars and
are used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. For further information please
see my recent companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

** Game 1, Round 9 - Geography - Rivers

We name three cities along a river's course; you identify the river.

1. Bamako, Timbuktu, Niamey.
2. Iquitos, Manaus, Santarém.
3. Diyarbakir, Mosul, Baghdad.
4. Chongqing, Wuhan, Shanghai.
5. Dresden, Magdeburg, Hamburg.
6. Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson.
7. Pembroke, Arnprior, Gatineau.
8. Bangui, Kinshasa, Brazzaville.
9. Revelstoke, Vancouver, Portland.
10. Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Astrakhan.

** Game 1, Round 10 - Challenge Round - Coffee

Just a bunch of questions about the world's favourite bean juice.

* A. Coffee-Producing Countries

In 2021, by US dollar value, what was the leading coffee-exporting
country in...

A1. Asia?
A2. Africa?

* B. Coffee on TV

We'll name the establishment, you name the show where it appeared.

B1. Central Perk, in New York City.
B2. Cafe Nervosa, in Seattle.

* C. Slogans

We give the slogan, you name the brand.

C1. "Good to the last drop."
C2. "The best part of waking up is <answer> in your cup."

* D. Coffee Science!

D1. The two most common species of coffee are arabica and
canephora. What is the more common name for canephora?

D2. Coffee is well-known, and often used, for its ability to
"keep you awake", because it contains caffeine. Caffeine,
which is a stimulant, works by blocking what receptor in
the human body?

* E. Coffee Desserts

In each case, name that dessert.

E1. Alternating layers of ladyfingers soaked in espresso and
a sweet, whipped mascarpone-and-egg mixture, dusted with
cocoa powder.

E2. A scoop or two of ice cream or gelato (usually vanilla),
drowned in a shot of hot espresso.

* F. Coffee Gear

F1. Alan Adler is quite the successful inventor. In the
1980s, he invented the Aerobie: a flying ring, thrown like
a Frisbee, that set some now-broken Guinness world records
for the farthest-thrown object. A couple of decades later,
he invented *what manual coffeemaker* that is so successful
it has its own World Championship?

F2. Name this iconic stovetop coffeemaker brand. It is typically
made of aluminum and was invented by Alfonso Bialetti
in the 1930s. While often referred to as a stovetop
espresso-maker, the pressure it generates is actually far
below espresso standards.

Moka Express. 4 for Stephen.

In the original game the expected answer was Moka Pot, but apparently
that's not the brand name. Thanks to Stephen for the correction.
