These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on the dates
indicated below, and should be interpreted accordingly. If any
answers have changed due to newer news, you are still expected to
give the answers that were correct on that date.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of the Red Smarties and are
used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. The posting and tabulation of
current-events questions is independent of the concurrent posting of
other rounds. For further information see my 2019-01-22 companion
posting on "Questions from the Canadian Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

* Game 4 (2019-10-07), Round 1 - Current Events

1. Mayor Tory announced a 6-8 week pilot project that will have tow
trucks relocating illegally parked cars onto nearby side streets
during the afternoon rush hour, rather than towing them to police
pounds. On what street will this pilot project be running?

2. Toronto City Council officially declared a climate emergency
at Wednesday's meeting, and followed it up with an endorsement
of a net zero greenhouse gas emissions target by *what year*?
(Exact answer required.)

3. The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that a captain had
been named for this season. Who is he?

4. Please decode the only after you have finished with previous

5. A Canadian priest was elevated to cardinal on Saturday. Who?

6. In BC, the Minister of itizens' Services has resigned as a result
of an RCMP investigation, without even knowing what allegations
against her are being investigated. Name her.

7. Four of six national party leaders participated in the
French-language debate last week. Name either of the two who
did not. (Person, not party.)

8. On the other hand, the leader of the Bloc Québécois *did*
participate. Who's that?

9. Oh, right, this isn't the Canadiana round. Let's see, what else?
Okay, an old company announced a new version of its classic
jacket, one that is loaded with "Jacquard by Google" tech.
It will be able to track your Uber, tell you if you left your
phone behind, and even take a selfie, among other things.
Name the company with the connected jacket.

10. In other tech news this week, two companies launched their
version of wireless earbuds. One will allow you to connect to
all kinds of applications by voice commands, while the other
will have an ionizer in its stand to kill bacteria while the
battery is charging. Specify one of them (say "connected" or
"anti-bacterial") and name the relevant company.

What a question!

Over here the definition of autumn is when the 24-hour average
temperature has been below 10'C for five days in a row. (I think
it's five, but I am not sure.)

But, OK, now it is Toronto rules. And Toronto autumn. Hm, 20:36?

Addition after reading the rot-13:
And they want the time zone as well? Ah, so they asked about the
equinox? I stand by my answer, and the qualification that is local
time Toronto.

3:50 AM (accepting 3:35-4:05 AM). Of course the question was asking
for the time of the September equinox, and in EDT (zone -4), but
I'm accepting any correct answer that includes a time zone.

Edmonton.

She apparently felt that the cop should know she was a "superstar"
(her word), and therefore consider her above the law. Among other
things, she asked him angrily "Do you know *who I am*?!!".

The video shows the cop answering "No", but I thought he should have
said something like "If this is your driver's license, then you're
Lacey Evans -- why, isn't it yours?"
