Rules Digest 516

Here are a bunch of old questions that now have official answers:
-------------------

<<2. Can you tap Hoarmurath to increase the number of strikes of a sites
> >auto-attack? If so, when? How does the timing work?
>
> No. Hoarmurath can only tap during the M/H phase and the auto-attack
> doesn't exist until the site phase.

It is legal, and I remember ruling on this ages ago. Craig and I finally found
the original ruling in an old CRF. This ruling was purged and replaced with
the clause under Rulings by Term, Playing Hazards: "Hazards may only be
played on a company or on the site they are moving to."

-----------------------------

>Wild Hounds says that it can be used as minion resource card
>playable by a character in covert company. This means that
>I could play WH at minion Ost-in-Edhil with my FW non-overt
>company, right?>>

Yes.

------------------------------

<<Can you target a region type symbol on a site's site path with "Withered
Lands"? Same question with "Master of Wood, Water, or Hill".>>

Yes. Yes.

<<If you taget a region type symbol of a region card, does it affect only
the company's site path ?>>

No. If affects any other thing that explicitly uses that region's type that
turn. However, do not interpret specific region types with starter
movement.

<<If you target the region type symbol of a site's site path, and the
company is moving using starter movement, des it affect both region type
symbols on site's site path and region type symbol in company's site
path ?>>

In this specific case, yes. Here the company's site path is by definition
equal to the site's site path.

<<Last but not least. What is the difference between "Treat" and "Change"
?>>

No difference.

-------------------------

>I have the option of declaring the first event in a chain
>of effects during my turn at all times, right?
>
>Does this mean that if opponent declares Lure of Nature
>that targets Elrond, I could opt to play Vilya before that
>in the same chain of effects? What would then happen to
>Lure of Nature because like all corruption cards, it cannot
>be played in response nowadays? What would be the correct
>order to resolve those two cards?>>

The Lure of Nature would return to its owner's hand for no effect. This
same ruling applies to the play of a creature whose opponent chooses to
play the first action in the chain of effects.

------------------------

<<I looked in the CRF and can't seem to find a definitive naswer on this.
How does the timing of Gollum's Fate work? Say my opponent declares
an Agent Attack at Mount Doom (rules say agent attacks are "declared and
enacted" first immediately following auto-attacks). Can I declare
Gollums' Fate in response, which if nothing else is declared, resolves
first, game over?>>

Yes. As a side note, My Precious does not satisfy Gollum's Fate.

-----------------------------

<<Can you play forwarded is forarmed after taking the first attack of an
assassin?>>

No. Here is a ruling on Forewarned Is Forearmed. May not be played after
any strike of attacks it affects are assigned.

----------------------------

<<> 2. Can Out of the Black Sky discarded with MT? (a very same
>situation)

Out of the Black Sky cannot be targeted when played (because it has not
resolved yet). It can be targeted with Marvels Told in response to the
Nazgul attack. The attack is the first declaration in the following chain of
effects. This discards Out of the Black Sky and removes the attacker choses
defending character option. The Nazg–l attack still takes effect, however,
because it is now a creature attacking normally. Note: an opponent gets no
marshalling points from killing his own creature. Marvels Told cannot
target Out of the Black Sky in a marshalling points pile according to the
CRF, Rulings by Term, Marshalling Point Pile.

-----------------------------
> Is the loss of the sage skill inflicted by In the Heart of His Realm
> permanent?>>

No.
-----------------------------

<<Can you play hold rebuilt on the R&L that a Fallen Wizard is using as
his haven and take his haven away?>>

You cannot take his Wizardhaven away, see CRF, Rulings by Term, Site.

On to the new stuff....

Neither. You can still play Choking Shadows with no Doors of Night.

>Question: What happens when I play Gates of Morning instead?
> Both cards are discarded?

No. If Gates of Morning is played in response to Choking Shadows,
Choking Shadows in not in play to be discarded when Gates of Morning
resolves.

This is the correct interpretation.

Yes. If it taps in response, it can use it's short event effect.

Yes. But it is relatively rare for characters to actually enter a haven during
the site phase.

Yes.

Yes.

It's only one orc or troll creature.

Thanks Kenny, you have it right.

Since all this occurs in the organization phase and not the site phase, I
would say that the site does not tap and that it can be done at a tapped site.

That's it for now. I believe I have caught up with the digests again. Please
let me know if I missed your question.
