OK, I know what a "Sligh" deck is, but where does that name come from? Is
it a person's name? An acronym? What?

Paul Sligh is the creator of the deck

It was all a big mixup. Some stupid kids deck on a web page didn't know
how to title his page, so it put a blank spot in the title of the page.
Then there was this other file, the Slight deck. had various things, mainly
a white weenie which was very effective with the combination of Zurs
Weirding. Plus the slights and mind bends... anyway,
the titles of the pages were mixed up and resulted in a page titled sligh_
(the _ indicates a blank spot) Somone copied it and played it, and it was
pretty good! So then they started talking about it and it got famous.

Wrong. Paul Sligh (Atlanta player) created the deck for a PT2 qualifier.
(5 cards from each expansion). The deck was very effective, and as we all
know, it has become popular. Paul went 6-0 in the swiss, then won his
first match in the final 8 (which gave him a slot in the Pro Tour, it was
a 4 slot qualifier). He lost in the finals to Joshua Bradford who he had
swept 3-0 in the final round of swiss. (Josh used a unique strategy to
win with his Necro deck. He sideboarded out all of his Knights and Necros
for as much creature defense as he had. Since we had to use 5 cards from
each expansion, Josh had a Fountain of Youth in his board, which he used
at some point in the 3rd game. Josh had made the decision to win with
just his Drain Lifes and whatever damage he could squeak through with his
Mishras and Hypnos). It was one of the more entertaining matches I've
ever seen. This was when Necro was a new concept for the most part. From
that day on, all Type II Necro decks in the Southeast feared mono red
decks. The few that actually played Sligh decks during the Necro reign
probably won quite a few matches by intimidation. This is the true origin
of the Sligh decks. It should be noted that at the time, the deck was
incredibly innovative as well as effective, but only if played right, as
Paul did.

not to mention giving out false information. sligh didnt invent the
deck, he borrowed it. after his succuss with the deck, people refered to
it as sligh's deck, and it became known as the sligh deck.

Yeah, and there's a new Visions common called 'Flying Pigs' which
costs 2 pink and 3 generic to cast, and is a 2/2 flyer with the
ability: T: Tell target fib.

Paul sligh is my uncle and it is named after him, even though it was actually Jay Schneiders deck. Our last name is Scottish, however we are predominantly German irish.
