Visions: MANGLED CARDS and Rarer Rares.

I split the purchase of a Visions box today, and picked up 4 packs on
top of it.
The last card in one of the loose packs has crimping across the top as
if it had gotten squeezed in the foil sealer. I believe by position
this card is an uncommon, but uncommon or rare, I'm quite angry.
Imagine my surprise when I opened four packs at random from the box and
found the same problem in one pack, again on the last card. This time,
though, the crimping covered only about 1/16" instead of almost 1/4"
with the first one.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, we need to contact WotC. I'll
do so anyway via returning the pack to the local dealer.
Setting that aside, let me add a note about my further disappointment
with WotC at choosing the 15-card format for a set of (I believe) under
200 cards. Thanks, guys. You jacked the price by $.50 so I can own 3
more commons. Dollar for dollar, the rares and uncommons are more rare
and uncommon than in Alliances or Homelands, on par with Ice Age or
Mirage, but without the larger total set number. Given the abundance of
good stuff, I won't yell "ripoff", but a less adoring fan certainly
might...

I got a box today, and did not have this problem. But yeah, it happens.
WotC has a policy whereby they will replace damaged cards, so don't
sweat it.

Yeah, I wasn't real pleased with the 15-card format, either, but I was
happy about two things. The distribution seemed really good - I got
something like 34 different rares in my box, and almost all of the
uncommons (missing maybe four or five). Also, I got a USA-made box,
which at first disappointed me because I really like the "feel" of the
Belgian cards better - but much to my happy surprise these cards felt
pretty Belgian! I think the US makers got their act together with this
one.
Plus, there are some really cool cards in the set!

In the box I opened, there weree two packs not sealed at on end...The
cards inside these packes had a large line of small dots which was
obviously the sealing rod's doing. Very disturbing, hadn't had this type
of problem in the three years I've been playing MTG.
Add It Up
I had a box of Homelands which had uncommons with scrapes and holes
in them...looked like someone threw the uncommon sheet on the floor
and used it as a slip 'n' slide.
Send email to cust...@wizards.com and let them know what's wrong and
what cards are messed up. They should tell you to mail them in
and they'll replace them with mint versions.
Note to scammers: Don't expect to get mint versions in exchange for
cards
you've played to death.

Heh, I was shocked with the duplication of rares that I got. In one box I got:
3 Magma mines
2 Aku djin
2 Archangel
2 city of solitude
2 wand of denial
2 Lycanthrope
2 viashivan dragons
2 lightning cloud
2 Elkin lair
That's just off the top of my head.

Not as weird as the crap I had to put up with from WotC's new 15-card
expansion pack policy:
10 doubled rares and 3 tripled rares in one box, therefore only 20
different rare cards in this box.
Eight doubled rares, 2 tripled rares in two more boxes, therefore only
24 different rares in each on these boxes.
Seven doubled rares in the last box, therefore only 29 different rares
in this last box.
After 4 boxes I was still 5 cards short of having a full set and not a
happy camper. I know the only reason I didn't have a set by this time
was WotC's, "new, BUY MORE, 15-card expansion boosters assuring you have
to buy at least 3 boxes to make a set policy".
Please note that even though the I state different rares in each box
that doesn't mean they differed from box to box. As an example I
received 8 Kaervek's Spite amongst all the boxes, what a great deal!
Yeah, I won't be purchasing anymore WotC products in the future (and
believe me I've been one heck of a large purchaser as their survey
records will show). I truly pity the poor kids that can't afford to do
buy as many boxes as I could to make a set. It's truly shameful that
after almost 4 years WotC still can't get it together and do the right
thing.
As for getting a set, fortunately I was able to trade for the 5 rares I
needed to make a set (it's amazing what 5 Vampiric Tutors can get you).

I'm standing on the other side of this fence. I bought
just one box, and have opened all but five packs from it, and
haven't found ANY duplicate rares yet. I know I've jinxed it
now, but I just felt I had to say that their sorting isn't
always as horrible as your experience.
On the other hand, of the four rares I got at the
Pre-Release Tourney (I got an extra pack for being a judge),
I got duplicates of three of them in the box I got.

That isn't totally true. After one box, I was missing 15 total cards (I
think 4 were uncommon; or something like that, maybe 15 rares and 4
uncommons). Anyway, after two boxes, I had all but 4 cards, and never
more
than triplets of a card (ugh, chronatog). And then I got two of those
four
cards in a sealed deck tournament 2 days later, and traded for the other
two
(not very hard).

From my personal experience with both typew of cards, US and
Belgian made, it seems that the American cards bend much more easily, and they
are also very much tougher to 'debend'.
When I opened by Alliance box, most common cards were already bent.

Wow, wized, did you have bad luck.
I opened 32 of 36 packs this weekend (saving four for sealed booster with
my kid), and I pulled all of one duplicate (Kaervek's Spite :( ). I am
missing still at least one uncommon in each of the five colors, three
uncommon artifacts (all Chimeras), and two uncommmons in blue. So, I had
a pretty good distribution.
As for you, D.J., you will probably pull a duplicate on the next pack.
Pray it's a good one.

The original printing of Mirage cards were different than previous
editions, in that they had an extra coat of varnish, and felt stiffer and
"stickier" than the previous sets, all printed by Carta Mundi in Belgium.

Well, I got almost the best Distribution I think possible. No repeats of
rares, well spread out ucommons (I am missing only 2), and the only common
I didn't get a lot of is Fireblast, which I got 3.

I opened 2 boxes + 5 boosters and need only 3 rares for the set, Cronotog,
Wand of denial and Griffin Canyon. Not to shabby!
Although i got more Lichenthrops than Summer bloom, damn! :\
