Hi,

Just wondering if people have success (or gotcha stories) on decks like this:

4 - Howling Mine
4 - Ivory Tower
4 - Black Vise
3 - Library of Leng
3 - Flash Counter
3 - Counterspell
3 - Control Magic
2 - Reconstruction

Plus land, some Sol Rings, Little critters (Zephyr Falcons and such), Vesuvian
Doppleganger, and couple of other things. Total of 40 Cards. (yes, I know
that multiple Ivory Towers and Sol Rings are against tourny rules... but our
house rules are only limited to 4 of any one card per deck).

I haven't actually gotten a chance to play the thing yet. My biggest fear is
running out of cards before I can deal enough deadly damage with the Black
Vises. Shatterstorms, Disenchants, and such are also a fear, but that's what
the Flash Counters and Counterspells are for.

Any comments on how I can improve this? What works? A couple of Braingeysers
would be nice I guess, but I don't have any.

Well, unless you can get a vice or two out right away, I would guess this
isn't going to be too effective. Once a player gets down to 3-4 cards in
his hand, it's pretty easy to stay there. With the Howling Mines, hmmm,
maybe.

BTW, why do you include Libraries of Leng? If your opponent slaps down a
vice of his own or a copy artifact of yours, you're taking damage from your
own strategy. I would just rely on the cards you draw and deal with the
occasianal discard. If you REALLY want another card now and then, use
Jandor's Ring or J. Tome.

Shatterstorms, Disenchants, and such are also a fear, but that's what

As long as you have one in your hand at all times, it should be okay.
And I would be EXTREMELY wary of anyone playing Red. Shatterstorms can be
nasty. Especially if they have REBs too. ugh...

Maybe a couple more Reconstructions. If that Shatterstorm comes out and
nails 3 of 4 vices, you'll need more than 2 Reconstructions.

later...

Well, if you want to use this theme in a tournament-legal deck,
you could add red as a second color and include things like:
4 wheel of fortune
Which would really make the vises annoying. Definitely get in the
Braingeyser, also. Of course, Ivory tower has to drop down to just 1 card.
