Tourney Report Norwegian Nationals

Hello there. This is a report from the Norwegian Nationals.
It was held at Blindern, the University of Oslo. 29-31 of March.

It all started with 2 Qualifiers on friday. One sealed, and on in T2.
I was already Qualified, but played the T2 tourney, with my sands of
time deck. I went 6-0 and was the only undefeated. Later in the weekend
The tournament organizer found out that there was a new ruling on Sands,
but more on that later.

The Nationals started Saturday with sealed deck, Sunday there was T2.
The 8 best players alltogether would play single elimination in T2 on
sunday evening. The top 4 Finishers would offcourse qualify for the
world championship.

I was nervous saturday morning, but I was lucky and got a good sealed
deck. My deck was R/G/B with Crimson Hellkite, Volcanic geysir, Jungle
wurm, crypt Rats, Bull Elephant, Dark Banishing...etc. Anyway I went 6-1
Loosing only to Kjartan Solsvik who was the only undefeated that day. We
knew that 10-4 probably would be enough to reach the quarterfinal, since
there where only 64 players in the nationals.

On late Saturday night i Decided to play my sands of time deck, because
I knew it would beat most black weenies, and I expected to see a lot of
them.

When I arrived sunday morning I was told that there was a new ruling on
sands, so my deck was useless. Lucky for me I had brought another deck,
One of my teammates was supposed to borrow it. Now he had to build A new
deck in Half an our. I had to play my R/B Frenetic/Hammer/Counterdeck.
Which really was a bit slow compared to all the black weenies, and red
blast that was going around. So I changed my deck and sideboard, by
adding Pyrokinesis, and Blue elemental blast. I had None Red elemental
blasts in the sideboard, since i saw very little blue. Anyway this was
the final version of the deck.

My 97 Norwegian Nationals Deck

Match 1: Against Monoblue with Suqqata firewalkers, counterspells and
Controlmagic.
Game 1: I get manascreewed and the firewalkers kill me as he counters my
1 point earthquake.
Game 2: After Sideboard my deck is much stronger against him, with disks
and another earthquake. I win Easy.
Game 3: Same as game 2
1-0

Match 2: Againt Red Blast, with Ball Lightening, Vishinos and Bolts etc.
Game 1: I die real fast.

Game 2-3: I Side in The BEB, sleight of mind and a pyrokinesis. I don't
remember much from these games. But I remember being one 1 life before I
won both matches. In one of them I killed two of his attacking Mishras
with a pyrokinesis, when i Was at 4 Life. I made shure i Was all tapped
out except for two Islands. I Love Pyrokinesis.

Match 3: Against B Weenie with Winter orbs. (Black Ice)
game 1: Second turn ORB. I Die
Game 2: I Win at 1 Life Again!
Game 3: second turn orb, but i manage to disk after a while. Finally
time is called I get to finish my round, attack with my frenetic. he
contagions it. He was at 4 life before the contagion. But the contagion
did 1 damage to him. And i had Incinerate. I was at 1 Life again!!!!!

Match 4: Against R/B: With Firestorm hellkite? 6/6 flying trampler with
CU RB
game 1: I controlmagic his hellkite, and win.
game 2: He gets manascrewed i GET 3 Mishras...

Match 5: Against Black Ice
My deck is just working better and better, and I win Two straight
against my teammate Christer Ljones. I remember taking control over a
Hippy...

Match 6: Against Black Ice
At this point I knew I was in the quarterfinals. I was playing Kjartan
Solsvik. The guy I lost to during the sealed tourney saturday. He was
undefeated too.
game 1: I get manascrewed.
game 2-3: My pyrokinesises disks and hammers do the work. Lucky for me I
got out a disk right after one of his winterorbs.

Match 7: Against Red Blast.
Gard Djupvik is a friend, but i feared his deck, so I wanted to keep him
out of the quarterfinals.
Game 1: I loose.
Game 2: He makes a mistakes. (Forgets to draw a card with from
solfatara, and even though he draws the card later, he looses.)
Game 3: I get a good draw and win.

I'm still undefeated in T2 this weekend.

Quarterfinal
It was decided that the quarterfinals would be 5 games, and semi and
Final would be 3. Since the one thing that mattered was qualifing for
seattle.

I played David Lilleoren in the Quarterfinal. David was on the Norwegian
national team last year. This year he was playing a R/B deck

I don't remember much of theese games, but i remember playing desertion
on his Necrosavant. I played Multiple pyrokinesis, and controlled his
hippy.
I won 3-0

Semi: I played Peter Evans, Peter had beaten Kjartan Solsvik in the
Quarterfinals. with a red blast deck, with touch of white.

Game 1: He wins fast.
Game 2: I remember having to counter a COP red, but i won
game 3: I sided in my Rainbow efreet. He played a second turn COP red.
but i won with my rainbow efreet....

Finals:
I played Frode Steigum, He played the black Ice deck i beat in Match 3.

game 1: I Loose
game 2: Manascrew...

So I got second place, wich I offcourse am very pleased with. Except for
the Final, I won every game after sideboarding. I had a good sideboard
in this enviroment. I'm sorry I didn't have time to write more, but
maybe I will write something from the world championship...
