1.) Quinton Hoover (arguable, I know, but I think his clean, crisp
pictures are just so awesome. Consider Vesuvan, Pixie Queen,
Emerald Dragonfly, Orcish Veteran, etc.)

2.) Richard Cane Ferguson (though sometimes they're a bit confusing)

3.) ??? (I like Ron Spencer, Stuart Griffin, John Avon's lands, and Anson
Maddox.)

My choices for best magic artists:

1) Phil Foglio (Love all his artwork)

2) Christopher Rush (Does faces really well, look at Eron, Lim Dul's
Paladin, and Archangel)

3) Adrian Smith (Largely due to new Black Knight)

My choice for the worst would be Mike Kimble.

I am not a fan of Drew Tucker, but at least he has some good ones. Angry Mob
especially. I haven't seen good Mike Kimble art, and Balduvian War Makers is
about the most poorly drawn card I have ever seen.

Just my humble opinion,

Tom

OK my votes are ...

1) Rebbecca Guay

2) Melissa Benson - Still love most of her artwork.

3) Phil Foglio - I just love some of the concepts on his art.

For lands I'd go for Tom Wänerstrand. There are so many wonderful artists that
it is hard pick three that are the best.

I've always like the old veteran artists.
My list would be:
1.) Anson Maddox (his art is always well done, albiet bizarre. I just
haven't seen a pic of his I don't like though)
2.) DiTerlizzi (very good, smooth pictures. excellent. The one new
artists I really like)
3.) Douglas Shuler (no need to explain)

1. D. Alexander Gregory (Love the style)
2. Tony Diterlizzi (Love his artwork. Been collecting it for years)
3. John Avon (His lands may as well be photos [look at winding canyons.

good picks, but mine differ just a little -

1. terese nielsen;
2. tie between cliff nielsen and adam rex; and
3. richard kane ferguson (making four, but does that matter?)

if robert bliss was still working for wotc, he'd be at the top of

I beg to differ. I think he's tha artist for the less mature player. His
art appeals to the 12-16 yr. old Comic Book age category, with lots and
lots of color and action, and not much substance. really, can you tell me
that Flux is a, well, Flux? or that Arcane Denial is something being
Denied? Personally, I think he's best at darwing those superhuman
comic book type characters, and should stick to stuff like Dakkon and
Sol'Kanar.

For the more mature player, I'd say it would have to be Tucker (for the
sense of feeling and action), Maddocks (for the sheer subject), and
the Foglios (look at Orcish Librarian to see what I mean).

My pick, in order of my opinion :
1) Randy Gallegos
I love the use of color and shading in his work. Vexing Arcanix is my
personal favorite
piece of art for the game.
2) R. K. F.
All of his art is what Tedin would probably call "Magic Art". Doesn't fall
into category with anything else. All of it is grand and complex, and his
work is consistantly top notch.
3) Anson Maddocks
Anson has a lot more that I don't like than the other two, but the stuff he
does well, he *really* does well.

When you focus in on Kane-Ferguson's art, you can't see anything clear,
just motion and movement. Then it slowly comes into view, and the subject
becomes evident. Also look at his Rage artwork, and you will see that his
unique style is the best.
Folgios is good, but not great. More of a cartoony sort of thing.
Drew Tucker's art is just boring. Maddocks is good , but not as good as
Kane-Ferguson.

The best THREE Artist's? Well thats easy, their the three that went
back to WotC when Jesper Myrfor's did. They are, in no particular
order...

Anson Maddocks
Mark Tedin
Daniel Gelon

As an artist, okay UPCOMING artist ;) I was really FURIOUS when the
WotC contracts made them turn away. But Anson's and Mark's work in
Weatherlight was really GREEEEEEEAT! I have about 17 Null Rods, and a
Zillion Abyssal Gatekeepers, cause there are commons, but thats okay!

Daniel, your turn to paint a card, so that I can get some copies of
your cards. And I thing Myrfor's is right when he says that Magic art
is no longer Magic Art. Its just "generic...mainstream fantasy
art...art found on a cover of a paper back". It is! Look at Llanowar
Elves! Jeezzzz, THAT was magic art. Along wil Hurllon Minotaur, etc...

PLEASE ANSON, MARK, DANIEL, START DOING MAGIC ART!!!!

Thanx,

Alas,Inquest reports that the Null Rod and Abyssal Gatekeeper were done
as emergency art for the set.

In which case,I pray Wizards has more emergencies. Or they actually do
some more art. Maddocks is my favorite artist, and Tedin is up there. :)

1) Quinton Hoover. Both of his styles (the thick line "animated" look,
like the Doppleganger, and the realist looking watercolor, like the
Mistfolk) are cool, but personally I prefer the watercolor. And I heard
that one big reason why he hasn't done anything for them in a while is
because they frowned on the watercolors. Big mistake on Wizard's part...
(the only bad one is Hoover's Homarid picture, but a bad picture deserves
to be put on that crummy of a card).
2) Robert Bliss. The exaggerated body forms give a real livliness to the
subjects. A kind of movement that a lot of Magic art lacks.
3) Ron Spencer. Just for his mastery of color, the way it draws attention
to the right places in such small pieces.

H.M.) Mark Tedin. Tedin is a true artist, but the "brain pattern" that he
puts in every painting is a touch redundant (even if it is his trademark).

And now back to the strategies, or lack thereof.
